Mild loads for my M57 .41 magnum: 220 gr. SWC cast lead and 6.6 Unique. I hope to use up all my cast lead bullets outdoors before the cold weather hits. Indoor (winter) shooting is plated bullets only at my range. I'm awaiting a shipment from Berry's.

42 rounds of .38 wadcutters (Speer bullets), 3 rounds of .38 wadcutters using a different bullet (Remington), and 5 rounds of 158gr LSWC over 6.0gr AA#5. Trying to load an 'even' 50 rounds and use up the last of my Speer wadcutters, which don't work in my 686-5 (I think it's due to the rifling in the barrel being all weird and not liking the hard/dry lube on the Speer bullets).

Just finishing up 650 rds of .357, 158 gr SWC. Next up 750 rds of .45 acp, 230 LRN. I cast my own bullets which helps tons in cost of shooting plus its an additional hobby to pass the winter days !

Just finished filling the bucket with my standard .38 loading of 148 gr. wadcutter loaded with 2.8 gr. bullseye powder, and also a couple boxes of .30 carbine with cast 115 gr. bullets for my buddy's Ruger Blackhawk. Intend to start on some .38-55 WCF today, with hard cast 250 gr. and IMR 3031 powder to around 1350 - 1400 fps. I know they're not "screamers" by todays standards, but exceptionally accurate out to 150 yds, bust through brush well, and flat anchor any whitetail deer......

4.5gr is where Unique cleans up and shoots very well.

I know a guy that shoots that exact load in a 627PC for plate shoots. Needless to say, he kicks proverbial rump with them.

I asked about the "dirty Unique" factor and he said at 4.0gr yes, 4.5gr no.

Like I said, he does right well on a steel plate course with it. Beats most automatics he competes against.

I can't stop reloading 45's, I loaded about 6000 so far this year. I use either 200gr swc or 200gr rnfp with 4.3grs of Red Dot.

I was using 5.3grs of W231 and liked it but one day I found a 4 pound jug of Red Dot and started using it and liked it.

I stayed with the Red Dot for these reasons. It's more bulky than most powders, meters real good, reasonably clean, very cheap at $53 for 4 pounds, easy to see in the case,no unburnt powder, gives great accuracy and it's real easy to find.

This is a great load...point of aim M19, 686, DWs etc. AND real flashy in low light. Very cool flash.

I got 1,100 run out the other evening, but need to finish them out before I switch over to some other fun-filled caliber.

Yep Bob, the rain encouraged my reloading as well. Loaded up some more 45LC - CCI LP, 8 Gr Unique, 250 L RNFP. Fodder for the S&W and the Ruger. Next rainy spell, it's going to me some 45ACP with lead for the Sig and FMJ for the Glock.

Pulled 10 rounds of Prvi Partisan .38 Special, loaded the primed brass and powder (6.0gr of some unknown powder) with 10 hand-picked Valiant 158gr LSWC bullets. Took the 10 Prvi Partisan 158gr LRN bullets and loaded them into Federal cases with 5.8gr AA#5 behind them. Finally, as a control, I loaded 10 more hand-picked Valiant 158gr LSWC bullets with 5.8gr AA#5. Those, combined with the 10 Prvi Partisan cartridges that I did not pull apart, should give me a good baseline for accuracy in my Model 14. The only major variables, hopefully, will be the bullets. Maybe.

Also, to make an even 50 (based on the primers I used--20 for the test cartridges), I loaded 30 more 158gr LSWCs w/ 5.8gr AA#5. I didn't hand-pick the bullets, so I'm not expecting 50- or even 25-yard accuracy, but I intend to use them as practice fodder for my snubbie, so I'm not that concerned.

Hopefully this produces better accuracy at 50 yards, as the base of these bullets is completely flat (and not inconsistently beveled like the Valiant bullets I was using before). Plus, these seem to be swaged rather than cast, which should give better consistency, too.

We'll see, but I won't be able to get out to the range until Friday (dinner tonight, range is closed tomorrow), and it'll likely be a madhouse there (all the kids are home for the weekend), so I dunno how much I'm going to be able to practice...

.45acp - 230g Cast TC from a Lee Mould over 5.3g W231, WLP.

.45Colt - 255g Cast RNFP from a Lee mould over 9g Unique, WLP.

.357 - 160g Cast Lyman 358160 GCSWC Thompson design over 15.5g W296, WSP.

I use straight wheel weights, air cooled and lube in a Lyman 450 with White Label BAC.

I was able to get out to the range for a couple minutes today, so I tested the new load. This was the result at 50 yards, standing, one-handed, rapid-fire (not resting between shots) using my S&W 14-6:

19 hits on the paper, 1 hit off the paper a couple inches to the left (20 shots total). Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it; I didn't even have to adjust my sights--my first and third (or fourth) shots are that 2-shot hole in the 10-ring at 2'o'clock. The fliers were on-call (I knew when they broke that they went wide).

As a comparison, my previous load (same everything except the bullet) would pattern rather than group at 50 yards--I could keep them close to the 8.5"x11" paper, but getting the groups to close up any was a no-go.

I put together another 50 rounds of this load tonight, and hopefully I'll be able to perform some more thorough testing next time.

At any rate, I loaded up some 125gr 357Mag loads with 2400 for a test in a carbine. Just kind of curious what kind of results I'll get, no real application.
