What Do Y'all Do To Keep Your Guns From Rusting?

I Clean them right after they get shot, wipe them down with Rig #2 oil, store them wrapped in VOC paper and in their original box. My home is climate controlled including where the safe is located and have never had any rust issues.

IF YOU DO live in an area that is very humid, a Golden Rod in the safe might help also. If storing a firearm long term, Rig Universal Grease inside and outside is the best I know of. After greasing, wrap the gun in waxed paper and them in aluminum foil. You should then be good to go for a long long time!

I'm trying them soaked with c96 silicone spray, wrapped in parchment paper and stored in there orginal blue plastic case. Need to check them soon.

Ed's Red homemade solvent/lube has been my go to for many years now. There was a stretch of about three years where I had to keep my guns in a warehouse my parents were using to store inventory for their antique glass business. No climate control in the Houston humidity and heat. None of the firearms had any rust at all. That's good enough for me to keep using it.

All of the above plus 3 dehumidifiers in the safe!!;)

+++1 on this one.
Someone else earlier mentioned pulling the grips... +++1 on that too.
I live up in Canada (Carleton Place Ontario), and we get the extremes of all weather up here. Which is a terrible contributor for humidity, and moisture. (coming into your home from winter weather...or living in hot climates and coming inside to an air-conditioned building. So here's a few things I do in addition to the great tips mentioned;
- I'm a pharmacy tech, and we open up plenty of pill bottles in a day. So I save up a bunch of the desiccants from the bottles (those little cylindrical plastic things with granular crystals inside), and put a few in my Pelican pistol case, AND my gun safe.

- I too clean my guns every month during the winter months when I don't get to the range. I like the thought of putting a fresh coat of oil on my babies as well as maybe getting a spot I may have missed last time around.

- When I get back from the range, if the temp difference is big from outside to inside my home, I leave my guns in my Pelican pistol case until it has a chance to acclimate. This should also reduce the chance of the guns "sweating" from the extreme temp diff. (Like bringing a cold beer outside on a hot humid day)

I have used most of the product's previously mentioned [RIG, Gibb's Lube, and FP3] and wipe-down my guns with a 'reel-cloth' after handling them. Inside my pistol cases, I will add some anti-moisture dessicant packs, or capsules. Most-over-the-counter remedies have these inside, so I just re-purpose them. These work great! Some vendors offer these at gun-shows by the bags. I usually inspect under the grips, during a clean, it only takes a few additional moments of your time.

I pack my safe with desiccants and try to keep the guns clean and oiled. But an engineer told me recently that desiccants attract moisture. In each pistol box I put rust inhibitor paper from Brownells.
That's sort of half the story. They work by attracting moisture , true , pulling it from the air and storing it inside the crystal's . The proper pack to use for a gun safe has a small window, when the color blue shows it's dry and working, when the color gradually changes to pink ( some are orange to green ) it's time to remove it and dry it out , in oven or microwave , let cool and it's ready to go back in the safe.
Bags can be opened and the removed crystals dried also but the packs in metal cans are easier to use .

This is a prime example of an "expert" only giving part of the story..... the one part he stated is technically correct ....but the rest of the story changes what he said completely.

Be aware and research such blanket statements completely . People start posting this as "fact" when in reality it's only part of the truth, and repeating only part of the truth makes it incorrect.
Let's have "The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!"
