What Do You Prefer, Coffee or Tea?

Strong coffee in the mornings, when in Texas I would buy the HEB brand, better than most national brands. They don't carry it here in Florida so I have been getting Dunkin Donuts brand. Ice tea in the middle of the day and a nip of Woodford Reserve in the evening isn't too bad.

I don't discriminate - machine brewed coffee at work, turkish style at home, iced tea in the restaurant, darjeeling (loose leaves) tea at home.

It's black coffee for me in the morning, but I prefer 8'Oclock brand 100% Colombian whole bean freshly ground. Brewed in a Moccamaster and never left on a hot plate type warmer, I try not to exceed three mugs. A critical truth is that it doesn't take as much water to make coffee as some people think!

The rest of the day it's unsweetened iced tea, preferably with a little mint tea brewed in with it.

Since I was raised a Baptist, alcohol was not an option. Once in college, I discovered that I liked the bitter type of taste and beer tasted really good to me. I do not drink beer, and haven't for many years, because I like it so much.

Sadly, I have relatives for whom alcohol has been a destructive force and harsh master. My genetic make-up apparently precludes the option of being a "social drinker."

After 22 years in the Navy, this is an easy question. Come to think of it, none of the ships I sailed on even offered tea in the chief's mess. But back then we were still taking salt tablets 2-3 times a day!

Hot tea tastes like dishwater to me, but I do love cold sun tea on a hot afternoon when it's too early for beer.
Coffee. I blend my own half-caf using good quality beans. No particular brand as there are lots of good coffees these days. I like to switch around, especially from local roasters. Morning cups are with milk, later I'll drink iced coffee. I drink it all day long.

Ever since having cancer I've lost taste for a lot of things over time, one of them being coffee. The only coffee I enjoy anymore is fresh brewed from our local WaWa! For the most part anything I brew here at home tastes like....
Well I've taken a liking to drinking tea again for my hot relaxing beverage. Drinking a cup as I post this!
Everything in the Adult beverage area is safe! ;)

We haven't discussed herbal teas.

Mine are Rooibos (Red Bush) and Honeybush with Mandarin, both from South Africa.

Twining's offers the best I've had. I think the latter with Mandarin flavoring is exclusive to them. It has a wonderful bouquet.

The Dutch in South Africa developed these herbals from local plants because real tea was expensive and sometimes took a long time to arrive at Cape Town in the 1650's. The supply ships had to come from the Netherlands East Indies, now Indonesia.

Gov. Simon van der Stel was making wine at his estate at Constantia by about 1655, a pioneer of the wine industry there. But some also made brandy from their wine.

In the morning, it's hot tea for me. :D Red Rose is my tea of choice. :)

Red Rose is the 'go to' for us as well. Ruthie and me mum go through a lot of it. Me, one cup in the afternoon. We all take it as Brits do with milk and sugar. Good stuff.

So, let me ask you, how do you maneuver around all the ceramic figurines? Getting kinda hard to navigate around here:

Speaking as a caffeine addict for more than half a century, I'll take that chemical any way I can get it. I start the day with two or three double jolts of espresso, sometimes in milk and sometimes not. Later in the day I'll move on to tea, usually Irish Breakfast because I prefer clear drinks strong enough to need a knife and fork to consume. When I make a fruit or vegetable smoothie for lunch, I usually throw in the contents of a couple of green tea bags. I tell myself that I am doing it for the health benefits of unfermented teas, but the maintenance dose of caffeine is probably playing a role. I also put away a few diet sodas if I have any on hand with reasonable amounts of caffeine in them.

The odd thing is that even though caffeinated drinks help me achieve improved alertness in the morning, they never keep me from falling asleep when I need to log some rack time. Keeping me awake is the cats' job. They seem to think when the last light is turned off in the evening, that is their cue to start aggressive high-speed chaseplay in the dark. Thumpity-thumpity-thump-crash meoowwww.

This post seems a little intense to me. I wonder if I could be over-caffeinated.

BTW, I've read that several cups of coffee a day helps to prevent Alzheimer's.

There have been studies that support the theory that 2-3 cups of coffee a day will slow the progression of Alzheimer's in elderly patients showing beginning signs of memory loss. It's not a preventive but it seems to help.

I drink Luzienne ice tea every morning, even in winter. I like coffee a few times a week but most coffee messes with me. The only thing I have found that works for me is Edgars Preferred Peaberry Blend from bluemountaincoffee.com, not cheap but very good stuff. I do drink hot tea sometimes, more in the winter though. I keep Twinings earl grey, irish breakfast tea and gunpowder green tea around. I particularly like to sweeten earl grey with Amaretto as a hot toddy in the evening. Not quite as good as my coffee with a good brandy in it, but still good.

Scar333 - Fear not the coffee unless your doctor told you to do so.
I had a triple bp four years ago and drink coffee every day - about a quart of it on a slow day. (IIRC they gave it to me in the hospital post-surgery.)
I grind my own beans and brew with a french press. The flavors are amazing and varieties of beans and degree of roast are almost endless.
A semi-strong dark roast with 1/2&1/2 is my cup of tea....

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that my heart was enlarged (more than they thought). I guess what "scares" me is that by drinking coffee, the caffeine will not give my heart a chance to rest. According to the doctors, my heart will shrink back some because it is no longer working as hard, so I want to let it rest as much as I can. However, walking every day is part of my rehab, so I guess it is all kind of a wash...
