Today I was playing racquetball and one of my opponents stepped on my foot and I slammed the back of my head into the wall. I have never had an experience like this in my life. It really didn't hurt all that much, but I went down on my knees, and felt like I was having an out-of-body experience. Like, I'm over here, and over there, and over there, which in retrospect was kinda cool. My whole body felt like your foot feels when it goes to sleep, kind of a tingly, fuzzy feeling. I stayed on my knees for a minute or so, and it cleared up. I sat down for about 5 minutes, and resumed playing. In the locker room I saw a friend who was a chiropractor and told him about it. He looked in my eyes and said my pupils were not dilated, which was good. He said if I get nauseous or dizzy I should go to the ER. That's not happening, so I hope all is OK.
I got my hair cut shortly after, and my stylist said I have a BIG lump and it's turning red.
I'm just wondering, is the sensations I felt what happens with a concussion, and is there anything else I should be aware of? I really feel fine right now, and it only happened about an hour ago.

Why are you not at the ER getting checked? Are you waiting to get nauseous or pass out? I would get someone to drive me to the ER if I were you.

Because I really feel OK.

Plus, I subscribe to the Rafe Hollister view of doctors. Rafe, for those of you who don't know, was a moonshiner on the Andy Griffith Show.
Rafe's quote was "When I was born I had my Momma, when I die I'll have the undertaker, and I don't see and reason to mess it up in the meantime".

We need more guys like Rafe.:D

There's always the possibility of a "Subdural Hematoma", a tearing of the veins in the brain. There are many symptoms but anything you experience out of the norm should be cause for concern. If you don't want to go to the ER now, for the next few weeks if you experience headaches, vision problems, sleep disorder, speech or memory problems, call your doctor right away. If these symptoms are more serious have someone drive you to the ER. Head injuries are serious and nothing to take for granted. They can lead to strokes and paralysis.

As can bee attested to by my late wife.
If you have any dizziness, or even a headache, go Dr/ER asap. No excuse/no delay/no drive yourself. Discomfort is caused by pressure. Pressure is caused by blood that is in the wrong place.

I had a pretty good concussion from playing football on the beach. I fell backward and smacked my head on the wet sand. I was extremely light sensitive, nauseated and spent two days without eating. I had my head buried in pillows trying to avoid light. If you feel any of these symptoms go to the ER.

Sometimes the symptoms of nausea or dizziness can get worse when you bend over, say like to tie your shoe laces or pick something up off the floor. Also concentrating visually, like when driving. Feeling a little "spaced" is also a symptom I remember.

If you drink, as I have been told, it's not a good idea when you have a concussion, if indeed that's what you have.

If your natural setting is "Forrest Gump", then I guess it might be hard to distinguish. :D

CONCUSSIONS ARE NO JOKE. GO TO YOUR DOCTOR/E.R. NOW! It is best to assume you have a concussion until someone proves to you that you don't.

The new school of thought is that any time you get your "bell rung" or "see stars", a trip to emergency or your doc. is warranted. It's not the first concussion that's the problem necessarily but subsequent ones. You should follow your doctor's procedures for recovering from a concussion explicitly. Time, rest and common sense are your friend.

Chiropractor? They aren't real doctors....don't you watch "Two and a Half Men"????

What happened when you were born is irrelevant now and what the undertaker does is understood and not important when you are dead. What matters now is your health. I wouldn't want to be mumbling and shaking like Muhammad Ali. I think you just don't want to be seen in a hospital gown.

Don't worry, guys, I feel fine.
Missus P&R Fan wants to hog-tie me and take me to the hospital. Not gonna happen.
I just got a call from a client, gotta go do several hours of surveillance. I'll get back to ya when I get home.:D

Listen to your barber. Mine told me that I had a suspicious spot that I thought was just scaly skin. It turned out to be skin cancer, which required surgical removal. I'm grateful that she warned me to have it looked at.

As for chiropractors, I used to know one pretty well. He treated me for whiplash after a city water utility truck rammed me at a traffic light. (The driver was drunk or on dope.)

He made my existence much more bearable over the next year as I healed and assisted me and the attorney with my lawsuit. BTW, I bought my NIB M-66-3 with part of the money from that settlement. I deserved something to atone for the suffering that I endured.

As for feeling a little shaken up, I did get my ex-wife to drive me to the ER. She was actually nice about it. Probably knew that I'd have done the same for her. If you might pass out or have vision issues, get a driver. But get this checked out. Something has happened to you, and you need to know how bad it is. The sooner you know, the better.

P.S. Just saw your last post. I think you're reckless in going out alone to surveil someone for several hours. You're the one who needs to be looked at tonight. Good luck.

I am someone that has had way too many concussions. But I'm a great example of do as I say not as I do. Concussions are a funny thing in that you can have no symptoms anymore then wake up screaming feeling like your head wants to split in half.

If something felt or feels off when it comes to your head get checked out. If you present with nausea or loss of sharp vision then go to the ER ASAP. If not then go to an urgent care or your gp. Because if undiagnosed and you get another concussion it can be life threatening.

Years ago I got my bell rung pretty good in a motorcycle "misadventure". A squid that I had never rode with before tried to stuff me in a curve, decided he couldn't make the turn, stood the bike back up & locked his brakes. He lost it, causing me & a friend that was behind us to lose it also. Must have looked like the Keystone Kops, the three of us sliding down the road in unison. They said when I came to(still with my helmet on;they were too scared to take it off)I stood up & tried to run down the road. Adrenalin is an amazing thing! Luckily, other than a collar bone & assorted ribs I was OK. My head wasn't any worse than before the incident, but I did get it checked out. With a possible head injury, It just doesn't pay to take chances.

My experience was similar. After another "misadventure"(seems to be a pattern)I went to a chiropractor for help with my back pain from another slide down the road. I've got to say if you get a good one, they can really help. I'd get there barely able to walk across the parking lot, & after some adjustments, leave feeling like I could do cartwheels back out to the truck!:D

I pulled a pinball machine over on top of me on the concrete floor when I was 8 or 9. Can't remember which.
Nobody left to tell the tale. Concussion, broken nose.
Wish I had that pinball machine today.:D
