What happened to quicksand?

Didn't people used to get stuck in tar pits?

No, those were the dinosaurs (and other similar creatures).

If you ever find yourself in L.A., check out the La Brea Tar Pits.

Guaranteed some proto human saw an oversized furry critter stuck and figured easy meal time, maybe that gooey stuff will peel right off along with the fur and hide and got himself stuck.

On second thought, it seems enough of his progeny survives to this day so maybe not.

I was going duck hunting one morning in the wee hours before dawn and it was too rough to take the boat out so while heading home I spied 4 mallards pitching into a small hidden pond by the road. I pulled off and did a sneak on them, jumped them and managed to down two flying out that landed in the water. I waded out and it was quicksand or mud or something I couldn't get out of and my thoughts were "This is a hell of a way to die and someone will just find my car, my hat and two dead ducks." I laid down and flattened myself out and managed to crawl though this stinking mud out to safety. I reeked and had to drive an hour home like that.
