What Has Happened to the Smith and Wesson Forum?

This forum has changed a lot over the last 25 years. Particularly with the ownership change - how many still remember that? I think it is all a matter of taste and self-expression. Some people like to be a little edgy and sarcastic which ithers find rude, I have found very few over those years who truly intend to offend or be arrogant. Overall, it is probably best governed as it is now, but I do miss the old days when there were fewer banned topics, but I was younger than too. Always been a great place to learn about Smith and Wessons if you are not careful you learn something every time you log on, and we all express ourselves differently. No need to look for issues where there are none. Enjoy your day.

This post was made at a particular time when there were several threads that were opened and became very political and nasty.

If one was closed another quickly popped up.

Most of those threads have since been cleaned up, and I assume points handed out, because I have not seen many of the posters back around lately.

It was not a reflection on the Forum, or how it was run, but more a post about the blatant disregard for the Forum rules.

That disregard was from some of the newer members but several of the older members who should know better also. Including myself for a brief while.

I’m just trying to learn so I only click on threads I think I’ll learn from.

Also look to identify those who appear to have a storehouse of knowledge.

I try not to pester them with PMs but Jack might say I’ve failed at that the last two days regarding a certain Model 15-3.

My favorite is What do I have here??
What is this worth, or when was it made??
I'm guilty of asking when my gun was made back in April. It was my very first message here. I'm thinking I may have broken some unwritten rule about introducing oneself before asking a question. My intention was just get my question answered and never come back. Well that didn't turn out like I figured. I come here several times a day to see what's new (Probably too much but I'm retired and can do that kind of thing). I've made a couple of new friends, made a great trade, bought the 5th Ed. of the S&W Standard Catalogue and discovered LOTS of great information. I'm hooked and will keep coming back until I'm forever banned.

My cardinal rule when posting anything on any internet site is: Don’t make any comment to someone online that you wouldn’t make to that individual live and in person.

I wasn't here for "the day of the long knives" but I have had many tenured members tell me how Sheriff Silverback rode into town, cleared the streets, escorted folks to the city limits and cleaned up the town.

I am glad I took up residence here.
What was " the day of the long knives"? "I gots to know"

I’ve been a member here even before Lee bought the forum. While I like the new format, it seems that there are now a couple of anonymous entities involved in the management of the forum. And, the new rules posted today were posted by one of them rather than under Lee’s avatar. I’ve also noticed that one of the previous admins, whom I believe may have had a financial interest in the forum, is no longer listed as an admin. I can’t help but wonder in what direction the forum is headed.

"IT IS WHAT IT IS' If you dislike it that much QUIT!!
What a fantastic attitude.

You do understand that the members, who have contributed probably hundreds of thousands of hours of scholarly research and donated it free to this forum, are 99% of the reason this forum is the compendium of all things Smith & Wesson, right?

Can you imagine the dollar value that has been donated to this forum by it's members?

But, screw them all, I guess ...

So you think people who run the forum are purposely trying to ruin it? I don't think so. I totally agree with you about the thousands of hours members put into this forum as well as many others, but remember some has to set rules and identify topics etc. etc. Someone has to take charge and not everyone is going to agree. IMHO this is still one the best forums on firearms and general info with some great humor.

Hate to tell you guys, but "the blue" forum isn't very well respected in the online community. I am a member of many gun forums and this one has a reputation. From the time I've spent here, its well earned.
