What is your collecting niche? Why?

If I like a revolver or Semi Auto Pistol,i buy it if I can affort it, and add it to my collection.

I don't have a niche, I have a itch. I like guns that go boom and shoot them all. They range from a 1954 28-2 to the run of the mill glock 22. With that said I love all guns and will buy a gun if it fits my hand and my eye. It has been fun and when I least expect it another one is added to the collection, no rhyme or reason. Let the journey continue.

I like father/son sets a large caliber gun, and a .22 that closely matches it. I really enjoy taking a set to the range and switching back and forth. I also like to have the rimfire conversion kit if one is available for any gun I own.

I also made an effort to have a .22 example of all the various actions. Rifles and pistols.

I don't have a specific collecting niche I just collect the guns that I like.

Here is my gun collect

.22 caliber revolvers so I own a S&W model 617 .22 caliber revolver with a 4 inch barrel and a 10 shot cylinder

Ruger LCR Chambered in .22 long rifle caliber.

two S&W Model 686-6 .357 magnum revolvers with 4 inch barrels and 6 shot cylinders.

Ruger sp101 with a 2.25 inch barrel and I am saving up for the 3 inch version of that gun as well.

S&W Model 64-5 .38 caliber revolver with a 4 inch heavy barrel.

a Second Generation Glock 17

So as you can the list is a Mix and Match of different gun manufactures and models.

These guns are the types I like so I collect them,

Started out collecting 4" N frames in the 70's...then added 4" K frames...then had to have matching nickel/blue models...
Then a member here convinced me I need to collect 3" K frames...then moved to fixed sight 3" K-frames...oh then different "-" numbers and barrel lengths of the Model 60, 586, and 66's...
Then I lived near a big used gun dealer in Atlanta...so bought many used Smiths with GA police markings..

So...now have a bit of everything.

I like pre-lock Smith N frames. I've got a 25-2, two 27-2s and two 29-2s.

They were made during a time when firearms had more character and class than a Chinese Harbor Freight claw hammer.

I have two serious addictions, all older S&W revolvers and Winchester .22 rifles. My S&W collection is a motley group of I's, J's, K's, L's and N's. So many, so little time and money.

My Winchesters are a little more focused. I first started collecting slide action 1906 and 1890s. They are getting a lot harder to find and more expensive so I started collecting single shot boys rifles. I just finished getting at least one example of every .22 single shot made by Winchester.

But .......there are so many variables, there is no end in sight.

I also have a pretty nice set of model 69As and several other mag fed .22s.

I was a department armorer for many years. My collection centers on the varied stainless revolvers that I worked on for guys that I could not afford with family and kid obligations.
After the kids were gone I began to accumulate a number of K-L-N short barreled revolvers. Luckily I started when pristine specimens were available at relatively low prices because everybody wanted the newest hi-cap semi-autos.
On a side note, I saved all the original stocks that the guys were going to throw away when they bought the new friendlier stocks. I consider it a little extra retirement fund as I watch the prices rise.

I have been through several phases- 1911s, before they were cool.- M70 pre 64 Wins & Target guns. Now as far as handguns
S&W adj sight models and classic rifles. I shoot them so if they
don't preform, they go to trade pile.

I would like to be a collector, but I'm only an accumulator.

Bought my First S&W back in 1962, a model 27-2. When I got out of the Army in 1966, I bought my parents a pair of model 36-1s. Then about that same time I bought a model 15-2 from a buddy who needed traveling money to report for the draft. Unfortunately the 36s were stolen n a burglary in 1986. I wanted to replace them but didn't at the time.

Fast forward 20 years after I retired and escaped commiefornia. Saw an ad in the paper for a gun show close to my new home in Arizona and decided to see what it was like. I left it with a nice 1982 vintage model 60 in my pocket. My last purchase was a nickel 19-3 a couple of months ago that brings my total to 43, so yup, I've done a bit of accumulating. Actually, I'm pretty picky. They have to have a hammer mounted firing pin and be reasonably priced. It seems that lately that reasonably priced part is getting pretty scarce.

Just bought this week 3 S&W Model 64-5's that were Haynesville Correctional Center, Haynesville, VA trade-ins. Got them at a great sale price & they all have some of the best triggers I've seen on any revolver!

I'm not much of a collector..

I do have small collections of coins and stamps, but just items of interest. I've insisted that I'm not a gun collector, but after that last purchase I may have crossed the line.

I started out "collecting"....... "just what I needed" in 1978/9 !!!!

1) Personal protection /concealed carry handgun; 4" model 10 like my Dad's, which over time morphed into a 4" Colt Diamondback........ into a three gun set; 3" 65, and a 4" 686 and a Walther .380 PPK ...... the PPK was retired in favor of a 3913 in the 1990/91
2) .22: Ruger Single six.... to a 6" Dan Wesson....to a 4" 617... have my Dad's Model 41
3) Range/hunting guns: 6" Dan Wesson.357 to a scoped 6" 686 to a 6" 586..... on the auto side Colt 1911s which morphed into Sig 220/245s for range and carry........
4) High Cap 9mm: added a Beretta 92 Compact in 1988... which I still have.

Collected about 8 guns in 10 years...........

In the early 90's I started "accumulating" variations on my collecting;as I traveled around Westren Pennsylvania on business. Mostly used guns, but lnib condition.... with prices to low to pass up! No one seemed to want anything that didn't have a 15 round magazine up it's butt!!!!

1) At first; Smith&Wessons mostly K & L frames in different barrel lengths 2.5,3, 4,6 inch, round and square; blue and stainless......... added a few j- frames in .38 then .357 and .22......... found a Registered Magnum and added a couple more N-frames 27/28.

2) My 1st year model 3913....changed my mind about Smith autos........I'd had a 469 and it felt like a 2x4 in my hand; bought and sold in one summer...........
But 3rd Gen autos.... began and still continue to accumulate; at first used 3913/14/NLs that suffered from "it's not a hi-cap"syndrome..but started to add to the range with...PC guns from the 90s, factory full size and compacts in 9mm and .45........ just got another 6906 orphan at a lgs for $265 ...... almost LNIB.

3) Variations of Beretta 92s;Full size, Compacts, single stacks, Centurions. EliteIIs in blue and stainless. Beretta's don't seem to be popular here in W Pa. and often prices were just too good to pass up.

4) That first W German Sig 220; bought new when there was still a West Germany, will shoot cloverleafs at 50ft......I've added a couple more 220s and 245s.

5) In 2011 I bought a CZ 452FS/mannlicher in .22magnum..... which quickly became my "walking in Penn's woods" rifle..... since then I've added several in .22lr, .17hrm and .223. Mostly used and anib...... all are great shooters and;...... IMHO... if S&W had built rifles in the 1930s it would have been these!!

6) Some others such as a few Walther PPKs and Browning HPs that caught my eye and wallet.........................

I didn't think of myself as a collector until the last few years. I'm probably still more accumulator than collector, but 10 or 11 revolvers in 32 caliber might have tipped the scale. I don't usually do multiples of the same gun, though regulation police models are well represented. I put together a set of older side by sides in 12, 16, 20 and 410....and four 1903 springfields....which is where my collecting started..WWII US guns starting with an Enfield my dad left me and a Garand my uncle left.

Now I'm focusing on nickel S&W revolvers prior to 1980. Unless something else catches my eye......

I started out with S&Ws. But that has reached a point where the ones I want are either very hard to find, way out of my budget or both. :(
I've got a long time addiction to 1911s. Just can't seem to pass up an interesting one at a reasonable price.
I have a fondness for lever guns.
Ya just can't have too many .22s. ;)
The last couple of years I've been on a Walther PP series kick. A have several now and I think I've worked that bug outta my system.

These days its mostly about whatever strikes my fancy at the moment. :D
