What is your collecting niche? Why?

I'm not much of a gun collector, but I do have a few special ones.
1. Winslow in .270 that my uncle gave me after taking me to Africa on a hunting trip in the late '60s.
2. Winchester M1 Carbine from 1944 (always wanted one).

The rest of the guns are tools, I shoot USPSA competition so except for my 9c carry gun, the rest are used for matches.

What I do collect (or more accurately did collect) is metallic wood plane, mostly Stanley brands between the years 1890 and 1930. I stopped collecting them because they became the "hot" collection item a number of years back and the prices went through the roof to the point that I wouldn't pay the asking price anymore. Thankfully I had acquired quite a few before then. Maybe the prices will return to normal at some point but I'm not holding my breath.

planes are collectable?

i got some of gramps that i don't use much, even when i play carpenter.
where can i see to collectors?

You couldn't put me in a niche. I just try to get what I need or like and try to get the best example that I can afford.

I thought of this the other day,

I have no guns chambered in millimeter.

Revolvers, .22 .38spl .357mag .44spl .44mag .45colt

Semi autos, .45acp

What I have the most of, Revolvers.

What I shoot the most, Revolvers.

Long guns, .22 and 30-30

Then there's the 12 gauges. I would like to have a .410 but one hasn't crossed my path that I want.

So, What's the use in this metric system they keep trying to put off on me?  :D:D:D

I'd have to say my collection is what some might term "eclectic." Most of my recent handgun purchases have been pre-lock S&W revolvers. I like variety, and lately that has led me to purchase a couple of Winchester lever actions, a '94 .30-30, and more recently, a .357 magnum 1873.

The primary focus of my menagerie is S&W revolvers, all from prior to 2001. I have a pretty equal split between J, K and N frames, most of them .38/.357. Over half of all the handguns I own are .38/.357 revolvers. I also enjoy M-1 Carbines and WWI bolt action rifles.

Many of the guns I have purchased were guns I wanted as a kid. I read lots of gun mags, and could rattle off a list of guns I would own when I "grew up". Well I don't know if I ever grew up, but I have most of those guns. I'm pretty sure the 13 year old me would be impressed with all the guns, as well as amazed at what they cost now. I'll never be done buying, I find "must have" guns I never thought of before all the time.

Snub nose revolvers are my thing. Specifically, S&W J and K frames and Colt D frames with 2-3" barrels, chambered in .38 Special or .357, prefer .38 Special. Prefer blued and stainless but can deal with nickel....if I have to :)

My collection niche started with double action Rugers. My first hand gun was a 4-inch blued Security Six ...... about 1974 I think.

Later it evolved to a gun with an emotional attachment ..... usually because I remembered it from a family connection. My uncle taught me to shoot a Remington Nylon 66 so ...... the niche grew.

Then as I got duplicates, I spied what is to me at least, the occasional odd-ball. An XP-100 for example. Then a Model 60 MSHP commemorative .... and the list continues.

Now I rarely buy anything without sacrificing something that's "less desirable" to me at that moment.

To directly answer the questions posed: Cheap. Poor.

I like father/son sets a large caliber gun, and a .22 that closely matches it. I really enjoy taking a set to the range and switching back and forth. I also like to have the rimfire conversion kit if one is available for any gun I own.

I must say, I like the cut of your jib.

S&W 27'S 3 1/2" barrel.

Why? Because I have an addiction sickness :D

If one of those accidentally falls off the table, gets scratched, and needs to be put down, I'll give it a good home. Promise!

Brownings.
Colts.
Smiths.

I have a handful that get used a lot for carry and shooting fun. The other group is guns I own just because I like them. They may see the range every few years.
I usually get decent deals on firearms because I don't chase anything in particular. I generally buy guns that are no longer produced, but not really as an investment, either.

I went out of my comfort zone recently and bought a 1911 Colt Competition in 9mm, just because I've had the itch. I'm hoping they go out of production soon!

Very collectable, There is one book for identifying the planes (and the age) and another book that gives current prices. The price bok is updated about every 6 months. I have some planes that I paid less than $100 that are now worth over $2,000. It all depends on rarity and desirability. The market has gotten softer in the past couple of years (I think the lawyers and doctors quit collecting them). I haven't bought anything recently, I have a pretty complete collection, there's only a couple of things I still want (and their price hasn't dropped appreciably) Maybe someday I'll come across a Stanley 444 still in the box in a hardware store in some small town, but I'm not holding my breath. :D

I accumulate used revolvers, pistols or rifles that are shooters. I appreciate some nice holster wear or patina. Any brand will do. Some historical element is nice, like surplus European military or police weapons, which are always welcome. I don't buy more than one of anything. All must be fun at the range.

FEG P9, which spent some time in Israel.
