So like a few of the forum members, I was lucky enough to purchase one of the Centerfire Systems surplus imported model 64 3" barreled revolvers. The one I snagged was one of the last ones available and therefore does have an internal lock, two piece barrel, etc. This example arrived in surprisingly good condition and shoots really well!! It's giving me hope and appreciation for some of these newer revolvers. That said, about a month ago I pre-bid in a police confiscation auction on a model 64-3 3" that appeared to be in decent shape. Well I ended up winning! I went from chasing 3" 64's on GunBroker for about two years to finding two of them, each for under $500! Well the second one is also in good shape and shoots wonderfully.
I had thought about selling the internal lock example on GunBroker and just hope to get my money out of it, share the 3" love with someone else in the community! But now I'm also considering keeping it and making one of them a DAO carry revolver (I'd buy a factory DAO hammer, I wouldn't Bob it myself). What do you guys think? Sell one or keep em both? What are your thoughts on converting one to DAO? I had a DAO 4" 64 and it was a sweet shooter! Pics below, only wiped them down so far and the older one is still dirty from the range this week.

So far sound advice that I would expect from the forum.

I'll never understand owning two of, essentially, the exact same gun. Does not make any sense.

Sell one. Do something of value with the coin.

I have to apply my K38 philosophy here ... you can never have too many! Keep both, especially if it is a model that you carry! I don't subscribe to the NY reload philosophy (partly because I live in a may issue state). Having a replacement model of what you carry is beneficial in the event of a shoot and your primary carry is seized. I am not fond of DAO in a revolver, since you never know when you may need to fire a precision shot.

In summary, I would say keep it!

Keep both, DAO both. I firmly believe that double action revolvers should be fired double action, especially in stressful situations. With practice you can get "precision" double action.

Makes perfect sense. I have two of most every firearm I have. Too many parts are hard to come by. I would cannibalize one to keep the other running, especially in the current political environment.

I would sight in and set up the non internal lock version as my carry/defense gun and then use the internal lock gun for range use and dry fire practice. It is nice to have a range gun that you can run hard while preserving your primary gun.

Thank you for all the feedback and thoughts on the subject. I think most of you made valid points even of they are different from one another. I really don't need two, as I have more than enough revolvers but these are my only 3" guns so you can see the dilemma, especially when both have similar trigger pulls, condition and lock up. I'll keep thinking and reading all the responses. I appreciate the help.

I would keep them. The one with the lock would go to a Gunsmith. Have it Bobbed and get rid of the lock. Keep the other stock. I would carry the Bobbed gun AIWB. Keep the stock gun for the house and Range fun or as backup on the belt in a holster. The options are all yours. I'm jealous.

Nobody knows your wants or financial situation better than yourself. I've kept two 360j's, two 640's, and two 3" 65's just because I like the idea of having a spare.
