What to do with two 64 3" revolvers?

So far I like the baby one, abuse one mentality! Imagine that, a gun accumulator asks for help to a bunch of gun instigators for help and the outcome is to keep both. Shocking! I think the newer one will get a makeover; new shoes, lose the Hilary hole, and likely a DAO hammer and spring upgrade. It will serve well as my shooter/carry gun/truck gun. Maybe I'll sell my Sig P320 X Compact instead as I'm still not sold on carrying gun with that light of a trigger and no external safety. Thanks everyone! I know it can be annoying for someone to post a thread like this, and I have read/participated in a few like this before with annoyance. The good news is there are still deals out there waiting to be found! Cheers!!

I actually took two Model 64s to the range today. The plan was to run about 100 shot shells through a new Kel-Tec KS7, but problems with that shotgun, requiring return to KT, left me with lots of time and only a little bit of ammo.

I had packed two boxes of PPU 158gr SWCHP ammo in the range bag, along with the 3" Centerfire Systems 64-8 and a 4" 64-8 that I had picked up cheap from a local toy store. Now I wish that I had packed more ammo.

Both 64s are solid performers. All rounds fired double action, what nice triggers. I think that my 64 no dash cried a little bit at being left in the safe today, and that the other gals are probably teasing her after they got their baths and were put away.

The model 64 is my favorite out of all the Smith revolvers that I have owned and currently own. I love shooting six rounds at a time as the range ammo lasts longer and I shoot smarter. I've had a no dash 64 before and between the 3" and the pencil barrels they are my favorite as they balance very nicely. Sorry to hear about the keltec, I recently watched a YouTube review where they too had to stop shooting and send it back in to the factory (much to their disappointment).

Exactly... Two is one, and one is none is reason number 1 to have two of the same. A NewYork reload is something I do all the time with a pair of matching and identical (except one is blued and one nickel) M36's...they are set up the same way, handle the exact same way and have the same method of operation and manual of arms. Lastly, another good reason to have two of the same exact model (I've known several cops that do this), one to train with and gets the heavy range use, and one that has been vetted but has a low relative round count so it will always run/be in the best shape when needed. These are all good reasons to have two of the same exact gun/model. Sometimes you just need to think outside the box!

I can't think of a better use for that IL model than to extract the IL and have that revolver made into a dedicated DAO shooter with the hammer bobbed off nice and smoothly. Would be hard to find a better EDC or bedside or truck gun or what ever else you need it for if you like a six shooter. You already said this model is your maybe favorite one. And they are both 3 inchers! Best of all worlds in my books!

I'm guessing you don't have a ton invested in both of them together, so I'd spend a bit more for a good gunsmith (if you can't do it yourself) to make the action into a DAO only one with a great trigger and keep both of them. I'll bet you might have another handgun that you could sell that you don't use much or has no real attachment to you to finance the conversion plus buy some more ammo to shoot through the Model 64's. One to shoot the snot out of and one waiting in the wings just in case that stuff happens that sometimes does (but ain't very likely!). Two of these equals two great guns, and that's two more than a lot of guys would love to have one of if they could find them!!!

Choices, Choices...

I would put the pre-lock in the safe and use the one with the lock with hammer intact. I tend to buy two of everything. One to use and one for a spare. Good luck in your choice. tom.
