What was your first dogs name?

Zorro, Shepherd/Malamute mix... would stalk Blue-Jays and as they took flight, jump in the air and catch them in his mouth.

A cocker named Rowdy was my first dog. I've had many more as the years passed, but Rowdy has a special place in my heart.

"brownie" a mix breed, but smart. she knew the sound of our car and would not bark when my dad pulled in the driveway. but if some other car pull in the driveway, "brownie" would bark like crazy.

Is this some kind of security question? If I answer it correctly will I be admitted to the secret room where the really cool stuff is discussed?

Actually I don't remember, or only vaguely recall, my first, a Boston terrier my parents named Lucky. At three I was literally deathly ill with rheumatic fever. There was no good treatment for it over seventy years ago, and they thought for sure I was going to die. Then the fever broke; and Lucky, who had insisted on sleeping outside the door of my room through the crisis, went and got all his toys, according to my mother, and went nuts playing and bouncing off the walls. He knew.

Skipper

He was a standard poodle. So smart, he could stand on his hind legs and open a door knob with his paws, just from watching us do it.
He died of distemper in 1957. My mom was inconsolable for awhile afterward and at the time I didn't understand why it tore her up so bad.

Having lost my black lab awhile back as an adult, I now fully understand how bad a pets death hurts.

I didn't get a dog until 13, her name was Ginger and she was a golde retriever. She only lived to 7, but She had some pups and we kept one and he is now 5, his name is Jack. I have had some other dogs in between but they weren't really my dog

My first was a black cocker when I was a toddler. Got stolen. Then my brother had a Schipperke named "skip" (OK, he's not very imaginative).

My first was in my 30's and was named "Maggie". Only dog I ever bought. A GSP. Since then, we've five pointers total, all pound puppies, as well as a Maltese (the "devil dog"=she was possessed!), a schnoodle, and a whippet terrier. Currently have two of the pointers and the whippet-terrier (the pirate dog- all he says is "arrrrgggghhhhh!"

Abby was one of the pointers. She had a rear-end full of bird shot. We took her from the pound to give an easy retirement. Died of bone cancer.

We currently have Hagrid and Posha. Wife snuck "Hagrid" by me as a name. It fits however, big, dark, gentle. Scares the heck out of everyone, though. Posha is still a pup. She hopefully will be going off to doggie boot camp, so I can hunt her this fall.

Tiny. A RottXSpringer. Bad hips, weird temperament, loved us and her cat, great with people/ Would run to see the neighbors when they sat on the front step. We didn't know what we were doing with her, but she taught us a lot about dogs, and introduced us to rotties.

My first dog was a female Beagle named "Bullet". For those of you who have never been around Beagles, let me tell you they are extremely focused dogs.

I remember hunting with her out at my great grandmother's ranch in MuMullen county, Texas. She would spot some little critter and go chasing after it, completely oblivious to everything else.

On one such event, the critter (not even sure what it was), had a small burrow under a prickly-pear cactus. Bullet started digging out the burrow to get at it. By the time I got to her, she was full of thorns from the cactus and I spent a couple of hours finding and pulling them out of her skin. That dog never even flinched.

A beagle named Blackie. Loved that dog. Ever time my dad used that belt I would go cry hugging that dog.

I clearly remember the day when my Dad got me my first dog. I was five-years old. I named him Frisky.

He was half Chow and Cocker Spaniel. He had mostly the Chow instincts. He was a fighter and never barked. He whipped every dog in our neighborhood, over and over again. I never saw him back down or loose a fight.

He was not a petting dog, but a working dog. He was all business all the time.

He was my personal body-guard and followed me everywhere. He was not really a troublemaker, but he could be. I had to be selective when to tell him to "sick-em" 'cause he would end-up getting me in trouble and I would get a bad whoopen from my Dad.

He fell over dead of old age when I was thirteen. Frisky was a magnificent animal. It was a privilege to partner with him.

Thanks Frisky for helping me have a wonderful childhood full of rich memories.

Of course, I had to grow-up and learn to deal with people. The older I get the more I miss those days with Frisky and the less I like dealing with people.

Our first dog was Skippy. A black and white mutt. When we moved into our new house in 1964 Skippy went to live with a nice family on their farm in the country.

Napoleon. not related to the original.......one tough ***. could whip any dog in the neighborhood and did many times while spreading his gene pool. and strangers never got out of the car when he was around.

I was 6 when "Sparkey" was delivered to me on Christmas morning 1963. A Beagle that had to be given away only 3 years later because we moved out of state to a place where Mom & Dad were sure dogs were not allowed.

Frieda was my first family dog and a weiner dog that followed us everywhere and bit the neighbor kid once when he poked her with sticks though the fence but didn't know the gate was open. She got put in quarantine for two weeks as they complained to the city about it. Probably my first dealing with injustice.
When I was 14 I raised two hundred dollars in 1967 to buy an English Setter I named Tammy. She and I joined 4-H where I met my first real girlfriend and later had my heart broke.
Tammy and I learned to hunt pheasants together and me with my Dad's old Savage single shot 12 gauge which kicked my young butt.
I had to leave her with my parents when I went into the service but she still knew me after 4 years. She unfortunately got killed when a car hit her at 10 years old. She was my first of many bird dogs.
