What's flying off the shelf at your local Gun shop?

I didn't see a thread on this.

I've been to three different shops this past week. All were packed. I could smell the panic in the air. I guess all standard calibers of ammo are selling out. One small shop looked to be almost all out of semi-auto handguns.

Another shop I frequent, used to have a rack of self-defense pump shotguns. Most all were gone. They said that's been a big seller. I even watched a panicky guy walk behind the gun store counter to grab off the rack one of the last pump shotguns with a shorter barrel . He had to lean over the sign that said "don't handle without permission" to grab it.

What surprised me was the lack of AR or other semi-auto rifle's selling. I guess that only happens when they talk ban? Or they're just taking Biden's advice and getting a shotgun?

It's amazing how quickly someone who's anti or indifferent about guns can become a gun owner when a crisis happens.

I haven't seen any price gouging from my local shops. Just limits on ammo purchases.

What's selling out in your area?

9mm and 223 ammo as well as semi handguns and ARs. Some defensive shotguns. No run on 22. Ammo yet. No price gouging at my buddies place but the other two small shops are jacking up prices a bit.

Be safe and take care

I'm curious as well, but have no need to go into a gun-store. Here in Washington State we've been asked to avoid going out in public, especially where people tend to congregate, except to buy groceries and exercise, or go to essential jobs.

I have many guns and much ammo, so no need to go into a gun store. I kind of question why anyone feels the need to right now. It seems similar to the need the kids from the nearby university have to hang out together. We're social creatures, but the gun-stores are doing fine without me going in to rubberneck.

Semiautomatic pistols around here. At the LGS earlier this week 5 salespeople all showing customers semis with people lined up behind them.

Got an email yesterday that Bud's was going to be closed today (Saturday) to do a "deep clean" and restock the shelves. I've been working 10+ hour days so haven't had a chance to visit there since COVID-19 started.

I haven't really ventured far out of the house since this has started, except for helping my school prepare for an extended closure (I'm a school board President). From what I have read, the NJ State Police are about 3 days behind in NICS checks. I try to avoid buying any ammo in NJ when I need ammo, but I usually order from the Sportsmans Guide. Virtually every cartridge that I would have an interest in (except the heavier bullet version of 224 Valkyrie) is out of stock. Some ammo is showing expected delivery running from mid-April to sometime in June.

I'm glad that I rely mostly on handloads!

Anything that goes "bang".
That about sums it up. Handgun ammo gone... AR & AK ammo gone. Firearms too for those folks who planned in advance and weren't hung up by no license, an FBI hold or a long waiting period. :(

I see that RI just went from a fixed 7-day background check waiting period to a "maximum of 30-days" background check waiting period for unlicensed individuals.

From what I have seen, 9mm is in high demand, with .45 a bit behind. People on another forum are asking about $0.40/round for 9mm 124gr. I have over 1,000 of that on hand, so I'm good. Actually, I have plenty of everything I use on hand.

It's a bit baffling to tell you the truth. You'd think after the previous two or three ammo panics, people would learn to fill their ammo lockers when there is no panic and prices are low.

I see some of it as an age or interest thing. Some buyers may have been teenagers during the last ammo shortage and didn't even know about it. I also think there's a lot of first time gun owners that are panic buying like the people fighting over toilet paper.

9mm on GB is going for $400 for a thousand rounds (usually cost under $200). A 1000 rounds of .223 isn't even going for that much (yet).

Everything here.

I'm enjoying watching Phd's buy handguns & evil black rifles then asking the sales clerk what ammo to buy and how to the firearm.

Both LGS are pretty much wiped.

Sportsmans Warehouse went to a limit of 2 boxes per person per day pretty early. Can still get just about anything except bulk 9mm and self defense shotgun of all gauges.

Only essential businesses open after tomorrow so they should have time to stock up.

I have no idea because I haven't been there! I don't need any more guns to protect myself or my family or ammo. I have had a couple of friends stop by my house asking if I had any extra gun powder and bullets but that's about all to this point.

All I know is I need rifle powder and I'm gonna be irritated if it's all sold out due to people crapping themselves over a bad cold.

This is a sample posting from a shop I've never done business with. I don't know what their regular pricing is.

9mm Federal 115G JHP - $25.99/50
.357 Mag PMC 158G JSP - $23.99/50
.38 Special PMC 132G FMJ - 21.00/50
.45 ACP PMC 230G FMJ - $26.00/50
