What's flying off the shelf at your local Gun shop?

That doesn't explain the shortage in MA. Lots of people here have handguns and ARs. I have over a dozen handguns and two ARs. Well, I have three shotguns too.

A lot of shotguns bought for home defense in NY since handguns and ARs are harder to come by. JHP 9mm, .223/5.56 are still available, all that's in the shotgun aisle are 7.5 and 8s.

Think about this

While the whole thing is weird, the shotgun ammo is the weirdest. Are a lot of people channeling Joe Biden? :)

Maybe. Then again n some places it's harder to get a handgun then a shotgun. Many people do have Granpas double barrel hanging around. There are about 9 million 870s alone out there. A 870 or a sawed off double barrel is still a formidable weapon

I have heard the 40 S&W is by far the largest seller here of the pistol calibers. This may be a function of the number of departments who have given up on the 40 and returned to the 9mm It seems there are a large number of 40 S&W surplus guns available at this time.

Everything here.

I'm enjoying watching Phd's buy handguns & evil black rifles then asking the sales clerk what ammo to buy and how to the firearm.

If you're going to disparage those of us with a PhD/Ph.D., please spell it correctly. :D Not all who possess a PhD/Ph.D., or other advanced degrees, are gun illiterate - chiropractors and attorneys are fair game. :D

I only went to two LGSs to look for a new pistol. I wanted something more powerful than my .22s. I thought about a .380 or a 9 mm.

The first store sold out of every handgun they had in 3 days. They said they expected another $100K worth of guns in a few days... nothing showed up. They had no pistol ammo of any caliber.

I went to Sportsman's Warehouse, pretty far outside the city to check what they had... No ammo for any handgun. They did a a way full of handguns but what good is it if you don't have any ammo.

I picked up a small 9 mm...S&W EZ 9 because I had lots of ammo at home. The line behind me had about 50 people waiting to check out the store's wares...

BTW they were completely full of rifles and had plenty of ammo for every caliber. Lots of shotguns but no ammo for them.

What are all those people behind me going to do with guns and no ammo, throw the gun at the bad guys?

i've read 10-11,000,000 Model 870's produced. unbelievable. i have one, a youth model.

Reading a similar thread on CalGuns.net, California guns stores are being wiped out of all types of guns and ammo. A lot of first time buyers, worried about what the future holds and then get hit with the 10 day waiting period, HSC card, documents required for proof of residency, etc. Apparently huge lines, hours of waiting, etc. Now that Newsome declared an statewide emergency closing all but essential businesses, I'm not sure if those buyers will be able to pick up there guns after the 10 day wait.

Or the DROS system will "mysteriously" crash and no one will get their guns released.

I think the shotgun thing might be first time buyers. You can get into a shotgun for $150-$300. It's fairly easy to use, it's not that "scary rifle" the news is always taking about, and may be less "object-able" to a non-approving spouse.

I can only assume the pistol thing stems from American's nostalgia for the cowboy. They have this romanticized vision of a cowpoke with a six shooter saving the damsel that I, I mean the villian tied to the tracks. Even those of us who practice ALOT with a pistol know how utterly outclassed they are vs a semi auto rifle.

I'm happy that I have no need to go to a gun shop during these troubled
times. From what I read in the local news paper people are fearful of the
behavior of others that are afflicted by panic and are buying SD handguns.
Many are first time buyers it seems. Best selling ammo is 9mm.

stopped to see if i could score some .380 range ammo.....nothing, and just a few boxes of carry .380. asked a guy behind the gun counter if he'd seen a pickup in business. average Sunday they sell 2.....today sold 10 already. no cheap pistols left. this isn't a populated area, unless you count coyotes. might be a good time to offload some pistols i'll never shoot. only thing i'll be shooting at the range for awhile is a Sig P250 .22 lr.

Nothing since late last week in PA as gun shops were forced to close and PA Instant Check System was shut down. Prior top that all ammo, but especially 9mm and 5.56/.223, all types of self defense pistols, AR-15s and P-Mags. Couldn't keep cases and shelves restocked quick enough. Many first time buyers.

I just got back from my local Walmart. They had plenty of 22 rimfire ammo on the shelf. I bought a 500 pack of some Winchester and a 100 pack of mini-mags. Didn't feel like being a hog, and besides, I should be ok for a while.

Most ammo is gone except for 22. Kinda of silly for a virus less deadly than the flu.

You know what? I really don't know because I don't have to look...finally. It's quite liberating to know you have enough guns & ammo to last.

Went by the LGS / range today to get some primers and the place was packed with first time buyers. The woman next to me had no idea how to operate the Glock she was looking at and the couple next to her had no idea what to buy. They were looking at a shotgun and several pistols. Several others were getting their background check run.

It appeared all types of guns were selling well. Almost all the ammo was gone and the store had posted a sign that ammo would only be sold to shoot on the range. No sales of ammo for carry out.

I bought 4 bulk packs of 500 Federal Target 22 LR on line from Target Sports this morning and stopped by Walmart today to pick up some groceries and wound up buying 2 more boxes of 555 Winchester for $19 a box. They had 8 boxes and some CCI 100 rd packs too. I normally use Federal but they were out today so I thought I'd get the Winchester. I think I have around 20 bulk packs of 550 now and that'll hold me and my wife a while.

The clerk at Wally said they're getting their normal deliveries of ammo but people are buying it about as fast as it comes in. The stocking clerk in the paper products said it's the same way with toilet paper. No toilet paper and the meat cases had been stripped clean. Lots of spam Though and potted meat though. Cans of spam might be fun to shoot at ;~)

I was at an Academy locally a few days ago. The ammo aisle was basically empty. People were around the gun counter several deep waiting to be served. A quick observation of the stock levels showed a few semi auto handguns in the cases and a pretty nice selection of revolvers. That's the opposite of what you normally see at Academy. The 22LR handgun case was still full. The long gun wall behind the counter was over half empty. There were no ARs left and no shotguns left. There were still quite a few bolt action rifles left along with a bunch of 22LR rifles.

We're a pretty gun friendly area, so I can't say definitively that they are being bought by antis. Maybe some are, though.

A few weeks ago the dogs and I dropped into our local shop on a Friday morning after a hike. The shop is relatively small but, very good, wood floors, wood walls racks of used firearms you can handle etc. And the dogs think its a special place. It was packed. Obvious first time buyers in my very woke and liberal town. We said hi to the guys and got out.

I thought about what I witnessed while at work that day and on Saturday during my lunch break ordered honey a CZ Rami from Buds, my first Buds purchase and had it sent to the shop at my range. When it came in the range shop was normal busy, but my background check took 20min., very unusual. A couple of days later the panic buying was everywhere. I do not criticize the panic buyers, they are just late prepare-rs.

My panic buy was that next Sunday. As "non-essential" businesses began to close I realized that I "needed" my 1972 M28 out of the safe I keep at the range and at home in case they closed :). When honey, the dogs and I went to get it my normally never really busy range shop was packed with buyers and product was flying out the door. The shop had a limit of ten boxes of ammo. I didn't need any, but picked up ten boxes of 9mm, at a great price, my panic buy.

I have a hard enough time understanding the past to ever predict the future, but this crisis could have many positive ramifications. And I am very, very happy for the good people who own and run my two favorite shops.

Haven't been out, just going by what I read here and elsewhere on the interwebs. As I mentioned in another thread. I got the message following Sandy Hook in 2012. I've got enough for quite a while.

hang on there for a gosh darned second 38Superman....
Spam ....albeit and acquired taste , can be pretty tasty if prepared properly.
Slice em' up
put em' on top of a cookie sheet and grill em' outdoors
season to your liking and put em' on a hamburger bun , an onion roll and then dress them up properly.....pickels - maters' , lettuce ect...
or just on a plate w some eggs.....
its not for everybody , but it works for me and my crew (not the family) :)
