which hand gun fits your hand the best?

My hands seem to be very adaptable. Many guns seem to fit with little problems. But for semi auto pistols, I think 1911 style guns just seem to be a drop in fit for me. John Moses hit one out of the ballpark with the ergonomics of the 1911 in my opinion.

Maybe my hands have shrank over the years. It used to be that a K frame with an open backstrap fit well.

Now the three guns that feel best in my hand are:

642 with factory boot grip
Kahr K series
1911 with flat mainspring housing and short trigger

The Sig P226 and the P228 fit me well but not as good as the P6/225.

My hands seem to adapt well to just about any handgun I pick up. I have medium size hands, but everything from a Shield to a Glock 20 fits.

My hands are easy to please....

My 3rd gen and the Springfield XD compact are exceptional in feeling that they were 'made' for me.

I like the Shield except it's a little thin.

My 686 would be top revolver except that I have to get a good grip to balance the 6" barrel.

My Chief's Special with Pachmehr grips is good except the Pachmehrs aren't really necessary and mess up the intent of the small pistol. But they do help me control the pistol better.

Model 10's are great to hold on to...

Blocks are NOT ergonomic in my mind.

The full size Taurus is not that ergonomic, but I love the hammer/action layout.

The Kel Tec P 11 HOLDS fine, but outside of a few yards I can't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside with it.

If you've ever read my posts, it will be no surprise: K frame square butt PC magnas. I own and shoot others, but these feel at home in my hand and that's what I want when the chips are down. Good shootin',
Doug

I have BIG mitts, and I can't think of one factory standard S&W revolver stock that fits either of my hands well. The kicker is this: I love I and J-frames.

Karl Nill Centennial grips on any of my contemporary Centennial style J-frames is the best I've ever felt.

Craig Spegel's full size square butt grips on an exposed hammer I or J-frame are about equal to the Karl Nill Centennial.

S&W combats on an exposed hammer J-frame are close, too.

I have taught myself to like a Tyler T-grip extender on J & K-frame magna grips.

Here's a surprise. Craig Spegel boot grips on a Baby Chiefs. Craig used his Baby as a model to make these for me; they're not his standard J-frame boots due to the ⅛" shorter grip frame (should these be called booties?). I should get the Chiefs these will go on back from my smith soon so I'll post a photo of the Baby along side a larger Chiefs when I get it.

Of the pistols I own I'd pick a 1911 with long trigger, flat msh, and Pachmayrs, or my Smith N frame with these finger groove smoothies.

One of the pistols I don't have any more but fit like it was made for me was a Gen 3 Glock 21 full size model.

John D. Pedersen hit it out of the ball park with this one as far as ergonomics is concerned. He did wooden mockups of many different grips and passed them around to hundreds of people to pick the one that most found fit them. He done good. It points so well that policemen back in the day called it "the steel finger." This one fits me perfectly. The Smith Model 39 does come close, though.

Almost Forgotten Autos

The old Walther P-38 has always felt smooth and wonderful to me, closely followed by Browning HP. Sig's are next. They all just feel buttery smooth with no lumps. Current M&P autos with double stack, fat mags are pretty much the same, but not single stack Shields. I like S&W wheelguns better to shoot, but for me only K-frames with smooth target grips approach the comfort of my favorite old autoloaders above. I guess I just like smooth. I like 1911's but never picked one up that didn't have a ridge or bump somewhere that felt like a piece of toolwork, not a contoured grip.

Of the handguns I've held, my K frame fitted with CT laser grips probably feels the most natural for me to hold. A close second (maybe even two first places) would be my SD9ve. I know that's a strange choice but it's one of the reasons I bought it. It just felt right as soon as I picked it up.
