Which length 27-2 would you get if you could only have one

If I could have only one I would probably pick up and move to a place that let me have more than one because these are Lays potato chips

I absolutely love my 3 1/2" Model 27s including this non-model marked 357 Magnum.

Probably my second most favorite barrel length is the 5"

I do not own an 8 3/8" and have never owned an 8 3/8" Model 27, however I do own lever guns in 357 Magnum in 12, 18 & 20 inch barrel lengths

I know a Mare's leg is not a Smith and Wesson

But it is fun

It’s hard to find a better-looking handgun of any flavor than a 3.5 inch Model 27.

Some guns look just right , this is one of those.

The 6" will be easiest to find but I (and many others) like the 5".

In general, 6" and longer barrels will have a Patridge (vertical front sight face), and shorter ones the Baughman (angled or ramp blade). Exceptions exist.

Happy hunting!

This is my dilemma ! The 5" is my favorite length but I prefer a Patridge front sight.

I would likely need to find a RM for that to work out.

Closest I have come to that setup is a custom Heavy Duty in 5"

Have three 4" 28-2s and a 8 3/8" 27-2. One 28 gets CCed on a regular basis.
Nothing soaks up 357 recoil like an N frame. 38 wads are like a pellet gun.
There's really no wrong answer.;)

To me, barrel length should be dictated by your intended use.

However esthetically and best visual balance for me it’s:
3” J-frame
4” K-frame
5” N-frame

Which length 27-2 would you get if you could only have one
But if you could only have one length that is a pleasure to shoot which would it be?
I don’t plan on carrying it, just bringing a smile to everyone’s face when they shoot it.
Interesting question(s) with potentially several different answers.
I've slept (several times) since reviewing dates and production numbers, etc.
While staying within the -2 series, I'm thinking shortest production times as well as smallest number produced, both these would lead to thinking the 4" might have the most collector appeal. IIRC, it came along in the last 2-4 years of the -2 series.
But one that is the most pleasure to shoot for me and others, would likely be a 6".
I'll also add that I haven't owned a 6" in some time and don't recall ever having the 8", as not my preference at all. But 3.5, 4 and 5" are another story.

Have owned 3.5, 5, 6 and 8 3/8"...have shot the 6.5...never even handled a 4"...

Most balanced to look at is the 5"....that said I actually like the balance of the 6" slightly better for a shooter...

Have a 5" and 6" left...can't sell the 6" as it was shipped on the day I was born 30 miles south of the S&W factory...so I keep both of them...
