Which Remora holster for M&P Shield?

I spoke to Remora today and they stated that the fitment guide needs to be updated. They recommend 5ART for the Shield. I'm going to get the 5ART with partial sweat shield and no RFT.

I searched forums for about two weeks trying to decide what I should order. I was shocked when I saw a thread on another forum dated June-2012 where there was debate over 4ART vs 6ART that far back. How long does it take to for a company to determine what is best for what is one of the hottest selling pistols? When I read elsewhere that someone was told by Remora "you should have ordered the 5ART," I said screw it. I went straight to Sticky.

That is the MD-2. Fits the Shield and the xDs perfectly

The reason I asked... When I looked at the photos of the MD-2 and MD-4 on Sticky's website, there was a stitch sewn on the MD-4 that looked like it might interfere with a laser-equipped Shield. (their fitment guide lists both MD-2 and MD-4 for the Shield, but "with laser" is included in the MD-2 description)

When I placed my order, I ordered the MD-2, but in the comments box I stated "for Shield 40, likely will add Lasermax to it. I see the MD-4 fits in addition to the MD-2, but the MD-4 sewn cut looks like it won't accept the lasers while the MD-2 will."

When the holster arrived, it was a MD-4. On the packing slip, MD-2 was marked out with "MD-4 straight line" added.

My Shield is still in the S&W/distributor blackhole, so I have no idea when I'll get to test-fit it, but my SW990Lc fits the MD-4 "straight line" just fine. It's roughly the same size as a G27 or M&Pc. The Shields are a tad shorter in length, so I think the rear sights will end up just inside the holster, and the Lasermax should fit just fine, too.

I pocket carried that fat 990Lc one evening with the Sticky. I was surprised at the comfort considering I don't like putting my cell phone in my jeans pocket. There may be hope afterall pocket carrying my Shield with the Sticky and the right pants. I definitely prefer how the Sticky material is thinner than the Remora material.

Last month, Mike at Remora personally recommeded the 6ART-RFT for my 9mm Shield. Seems like we're all getting different recommendations. Personally, I do like my Remora, fits my bod and the Shield so well that it functionally disappears while in CCW mode.
Perhaps we who actually own a Remora No-Clip holster for a 40cal/9mm Shield should start a new thread based on our real time fitment holstered experiences so others in the Shield/Remora market can benefit from our carry knowledge?

I got my Remora 6ART-RFT and I am happy with the way it fits my Shield. However, I do not feel comfortable wearing it IWB. How do you wear your Remora to be so comfortable with it.

Comfortable with respect to comfort or peace of mind it will stay in place?

I IWB'ed my Sticky and 990Lc tonight at about 4 o'clock. It felt more comfortable than my Old Faithful hybrid.

I can pocket carry the Shield with the MD-2 Here are some pics with jeans. It does conceal ok. I wouldn't have any issues carrying this way. I will say though that it doesn't grip like a holster designed for a pocket. It sometimes pulls out with the gun if you draw too fast

Looks like a good fit for the Shield. I like the full exposure of the grip and mag ejector button. I also like that the material is thinner. Looks like Sticky actually put some thought into their design. Waiting for my refund from Remora, will be using that money to go with Sticky.

Fits great! I'm lucky that a LGS carries them so was able to take a close look before I purchased :)

doh! I take back everything bad I was saying about Remora's CS and not getting back to me in response to my question.....they answered right away and it was in my spam folder......

She said the 6Art has been redone to mirror the one in this thread. I feel so bad for trashing them I'm going to order one with a full Sweat Shield :o

Mea culpa I'll be able to give a good review vs the Sticky

Whether or not the 6ART has been redesigned remains to be seen. I recently (within the past 2 weeks) ordered the 6ART for my Shield, based on emails from Remora personnel. I was under the impression it had been redesigned prior to my order. I found it to be too large. Rear sights, magazine release were fully covered, and I could not achieve a decent grip while attempting to draw.

I expressed my concerns to Remora, and they sent me a 5ART. It fits. The sights & mag release are exposed (as I wanted) and I am able to get good purchase on the grip. If I had to gripe, I would say that there is the slightest bit of wiggle room when the Shield is holstered. This is, of course, not noticeable when wearing it IWB. If the stitching were just 1/4" closer where the trigger guard is, it would be a perfect fit. Really it's negligible, but it's the only fault I could find.

Great customer service though. Quick to respond and help, and I got a mag holder for my trouble.

Couldn't be happier, this Remora holster came to me in a package "6ART-RFT" I wear it daily.

Just placed an order for my 9 shield. I made sure to get the 6ART-RFT one. We'll see how it goes once it arrives.

Here's something else to look forward to:
I have a California CCW permit and I for one am not a fan of the belted or clip-on IWB holsters as they are very uncomfortable to wear with a weapon holstered or un-holstered while driving. Also being a PITA to switch around in a parking lot, I looked into the Remora 6ART-RFT concept and found it to my liking. Not only does it carry well, it also fits nicely between my front seat while driving and switches out from the vehicle to me or vise-versa in seconds.

So.. do you have two holsters? One for car and one on your person to slide the firearm into? I'm a bit of a heavier guy, and it's not like I can slide the holster IWB unless I loosen my belt, so thinking maybe have two of them for this purpose..

I have a Sticky holster (similar to Remora) for my Shield and find it not at all difficult to slide it into my pants without loosening my belt. I am not skinny but don't have much of a "roll" either. In general I think these type of holsters are not easy to re-holster without taking the holster out of the pocket or pants anyway. The nice thing about Sticky is they seem to have a reasonably good dealer/retailer network so you might be able to find a LGS near you has them in stock and will let you try one. They have a no questions asked money back guarantee (I think Remora does also - check their web site to confirm) so if you can't find one locally you can't go wrong ordering one on line. If it doesn't suit you just send it back.

My husband has the 6ART for his Shield 40 and he loves it. He has had no problems at all. And I also bought the 6ART RFT for my Shield and it looks like it will work out well too. I will say that they never emailed me back when I asked about what size to order for the shield but I went along and ordered because of advise I read on the forum.

ok, so for a right handed shooter wanting to carry right behind the right hip where the magazine is facing my spine, i would want the 5 ART RFT or 6 ART RFT with right hand sweat guard, correct?

No, just one.

I have the Remora "RFT" model, re-enforced top as it has a stiff piping type roll only around both sides of the pistol holster opening which keeps it from collapsing while body mounted and unholstered.. I'm 6"-4" 215 lbs and admittedly need to buy new pants with an extra inch or so but even as I dress now, the Shield slips in and out without having the pop a button and unzip the fly to reholster.

Got my replacement Remora 5ART for my Shield based on Remora's recommendation after my complaint. 6ART had problem with the rear sight hanging up on the seam.
5 ART is a much better fit.
