Which Remora holster for M&P Shield?

Got my replacement Remora 5ART for my Shield bases on Remora's recommendation. 6ART had problem with the rear sight hanging up on the seam.
5 ART is a much better fit.

Oh awesome.....they told me in a email that the 6ART has been redesigned especially for the Shield based on the one seen in this thread...,.,so which one is correct??

I have the Remora "RFT" model, re-enforced top as it has a stiff piping type roll only around both sides of the pistol holster opening which keeps it from collapsing while body mounted and unholstered.. I'm 6"-4" 215 lbs and admittedly need to buy new pants with an extra inch or so but even as I dress now, the Shield slips in and out without having the pop a button and unzip the fly to reholster.

Glad that works well for you. That may be one advantage Remora has over Sticky - as far as I know Sticky doesn't have a RFT option available. However what I tried to explain but not nearly as well as you did, for me it doesn't make a difference because I can fairly easily slip the Sticky-holstered Shield into my pants without having to loosen my belt or pop a button. As for having to remove the holster to re-holster, I don't have a problem with that as I haven't envisioned a situation where I would have drawn the gun and couldn't subsequently "draw" the holster to re- holster. Might be inconvenient for some training etc. where you would need to repeatedly draw and re-holster. I am sure Remora makes a great product and am glad you found something that works well for you. (And since I am 5' 9" and 185 lbs. I concede!:)) I could have very easily ended up with the Remora but Sticky is what my LGS had in stock and recommended when I was looking, and I have been very happy with it. Be safe!

I just received my Remora in the mail. Shipping was adequate; I'm sure Alan is busy with all the orders. The Remora fits perfectly with my shield perfectly and the quality looks/feels exceptional.

Thanks.

Just got my 6ART-SS. I asked the company in my order to make it like the one in post #47, and this is what i got. it was pretty tight at first, but i eventually had to cut one stitch down by the trigger guard area and it fits perfectly now. i'm very happy with the quality and how well it works. i've been using it for two days now and has not moved on me once and it easy but not too easy to draw from and even reholster without pulling the holster out first.

Which model number and options does yours have?

I have the 6ART-SS and it is perfect. This model covers the sights and mag release ever so slightly but I see no problem with it. I ordered mine back in March. I sent an email to the company explaining the confusion that was out there and was told that they had re-designed for the shield.

I appreciate those pictures as I am also looking at Remora - primarily as a pocket holster (summer shorts). However, it would be nice for it to be dual purpose, i.e., also as in IWB. From all the navigating I did today on their website, the model that is suggested for the Shield is the 5ART. Now, I haven't made my way through page 2 and 3 of the posts here, so maybe that has already been discovered.

My one question is this: Would the Remora with either a sweat shield or FULL sweat shield (as long as the footprint does not extend beyond the gun) be ok for pocket carry? In the summer, if were to use this for IWB, I am worried about sweat.

Personal opinion here, don't pocket carry. Put the weapon in a holster that is secure and you can get your hands on if you need it.

IMHO, trying to "pocket carry" a Shield or any handgun is irresponsible. Again, just my opinion.

If you use the full sweat shield version, don't worry about sweat. Thats why they designed the full sweat shield.

Specifically talking the summer doldrums here ....... I hear you, but I am a large guy and to be frank it is very difficult to wear any kind of T-shirt that conceals. When I carry IWB, I always have at least a light jacket on. But I can't do that in Virginia's sweltering summers with humidity that literally wastes you ten seconds after you step out the door. If I were thin as a rail, I could probably get away with a loose fitting t-shirt.

If I could go IWB, I would in a NY minute as I love my current IWB holster -- it is so comfortable, that I can literally go all day and not know it is even there.

I've already done a lot of carrying my Shield in my shorts front pocket, or the cargo pocket. Seems to be quite concealed, but is somewhat uncomfortable. So I am hoping a pocket holster will make it more comfortable. As for getting to it quickly ---- I am just going to have to hope it can be quick enough. Even with an IWB or OWB holster, I ain't going to win a fast draw contest.

I hear ya, I am in NC. July and August here are oppressive.

It appears Remora has changed the model numbers for the holster that fits the Shield. I have a previous fitment chart from last year and it shows a 6ART for the Shield. That is the model I ordered and it fits like a glove.

I just looked at the fitment chart on their website and it is showing a 5ART. I would order the 5ART.

If you are unsure, you could always send them an email. I have found them to be super responsive any time I have contacted them with a question.

Yes, I've been talking directly to them -- a lady in sales. In fact, she just called me back and I told about all the posts here on the forum about confusion between the model numbers. She confirmed that they redesigned the holster for the Shield and the correct model number IS the 5ART. I ordered that today with two options -- the leather lining, which will make it slimmer, and a partial sweat shield in case I do occasionally wear it IWB instead of the pocket. She said the partial SS will still allow pocket carry without interfering with grasping the pistol grip. Total cost including the two options and shipping is $45.90. Will take about 7 days because the leather lining makes it a custom build.

As an aside -- I will use this holster probably as a pocket carry all the time. I have reservations that it will stay in place, on my body, as an IWB. Maybe I will be surprised, but the old saw "I am from Missouri, show me" is in play here. The only reason I added the SS was on the outside chance that I CAN use it IWB.

How will the leather liner make the Remora holster slimmer?
I have been CCW carrying the leather linerless sweatshieldless 6ART RFT Remora daily for several months now and not one eensyweenyteensy "stay in place" issue. It's an inexpensive well built out of quality sewn material, fully operative IWB tuck holster that makes me feel safe every second while wearing.

same here, very little to no movement at all from this holster. the only thing it might do with strenuous body movement is twist in axis with your beltline a very little bit. but when it comes to just staying in place whether your just walking along or drawing from the holster, it will not move. kinda weird the 6ART was recommended for the Shield and I was sent the 6ART SS, but as previously posted above me, Remora says the 5ART is for the Shield.

I just received the 5ART-SS-Leather and it seems to be the right choice. I'll post pictures later this weekend. My Shield 40, when fully inserted, is gripped in place. (If I hold it upside down, it stays.) With very little effort, it pulls free and is completely unrestricted the rest of the way out. In my pocket, the gun is drawn with ease. And with the little bit of experimenting that I've done with the IWB - same thing.

I have to admit, the Remora is much more substantial than I imagined. I cannot see how this holster would ever wear out.

Hi all... sorry to resurrect a thread on my first post, but I've been surfing the net for information on my brand-new Shield 9 and I keep finding this thread. Hoping to purchase a Remora while their Fall sale is on, seems like a versatile holster.

Just wondering if there has been any resolution on which size Remora for the Shield is the best fit. Being new to carry I'm not sure if it's better to have the mag release covered or not, etc., so any direction would be appreciated.

The size for the shield on Remora's website is the updated size. There was some confusion when they first start making holsters for the shield. I like the full grip style. The mag release is not covered, but the trigger is covered. I didn't get the sweat shield, because IMO it hampers your ability to get a full purchase on the firearm. By the way, I love my Remora holster!!

Steve

Thanks. The site is still a little weird as the chart lists size 5art but the Shield is pictured on the page for 6art, so I wanted to check before I purchase.
