Why do some cops seem arrogant?

Funny you should mention that, tim. From this side of the "fence" it feels like the anti-cop people are the ones that have the "us vs. them" attitude, or at least "me vs. them."

Ironic, isn't it? I guess its okay to extract one part of my post & kind of quote it out of context...I was, if you remember, referring to the rant that was posted from a magazine article. And if you don't see that attitude in that article, we're talking at cross purposes here. Every one mentioned in the article that is not a LEO is a "dirt bag". Whatever you do, do NOT make the mistake of calling me anti-cop or a LEO basher, because you couldn't be farther from the truth!

"Me" against them doesn't have back-up a mic click away or authority. Actions under color of law in that interaction can have lifelong consequences for the "me" at the scene if the guy/gal with the authority decides to make life difficult.

"Us against them" by those in positions of authority duly empowered and armed by government can easily turn into a bad day for "me" if that authority is abused. I don't want your job guys. There are some people with really bad attitudes and intentions toward cops. Some pay the ultimate price to perform their duties. I respect those who wear the badge and do the right thing.

I suspect it's a fairly rare officer that regularly abuses their authority. It does happen and I rarely see stories of fellow officers testifying against a rogue officer. There seems to be a code of silence and protection. I speak from experience here. I've seen abuse excused because of testimony by those who were sworn to protect but instead protected their own despite their own being clearly in the wrong. I was there.

My answer for that question is because they repeatedly have to deal with the bottom 10 percent of society on a regular basis. What the general public fails to realize is that there is a certain percentage of society that looks at crime like a job. They are too lazy to work. They believe they can out smart everyone by taking a shortcut-be it drugs, extortion, theft etc... Also when a police officer smiles at someone, they have no way of knowing until they interact with that person whether they are a criminal or an ordinary citizen. Now if they are dealing with a criminal, the guy might see if he can take advantage of the officer. BTW- this is my opinion and I am not a police officer. I could be wrong but I bet my thought hits pretty close to home. Be safe out there guys.:D

Ive worked in Corrections for 11 years I deal w/ all the Dbags of society and I'm not arrogant or anything like that.

Its not that some cops are arrogant its that some PEOPLE are arrogant, does not matter what they do for a profession its just how they are. Take that arrogant cop and make him a kindergarten teacher and he would still be a prick.

Not every person a cop deals w/ is a criminal, they deal w/ everyone from society what I do I deal w/ 100% convicted criminals, murders, rapists, child molesters, violent people.
