Would you keep this revolver??

Hi Guys;
I am looking for your opinions. Would you keep this revolver??
I bought a 29-2 on Gunbroker, and just picked it up last night. It was described as "excellent," no blue loss, thin spots, holster wear. "not mint, but in excellent condition.
The problem is: all around the cylinder where the cylinder wear ring normally is there are "chatter" marks where the cylinder has been slammed against the pin over, and over.
The revolver is almost in perfect shape, other than that, and some plier marks on the cylinder rod.
It came in a walnut presentation case, and I believe has been shot very little. With shipping I paid almost $900, and it is going to cost me a $50.00 loss in shipping both ways to return it.
I didn't intend for it to be a safe queen, and was going to shoot it sparingly.
What do you think? Would YOU keep it. BTW: the damage was not mentioned, or pictured on the listing.
Pictures attached . . .
Thanks for your input.
Tom
I hope the pictures are there, I am not a computer whiz . . .

Have you talked to the seller? I would look on Gunbroker and get his phone number, give him/her a call and discuss the issues. If the seller has all A+ feedback, more than likely he will understand your concerns and try to accommodate you with the costs for shipping.
I would definitely return the gun if possible, as you will not be happy with it as is.

Also, did the seller post pictures showing the ejector rod in any of the pictures, so you could discern the plier marks?

Good luck.
augy

I would send it back. The seller should NOT have misrepresented the condition of that revolver. As a frequent buyer/seller on GB, I can tell you that all we have is our reputation, based on our transaction "feedback". A REPUTABLE dealer is concerned about buyer satisfaction, and doesn't want negative feedback. I would request that the seller pay for return shipping, or suffer the consequence of you reporting the misrepresentation of the true condition of that revolver and your dissatisfaction with the seller and the transaction. You may want to quote the NRA definition of a revolver in the "Excellent" condition that he claimed this one was in. Don't get turned off to GB by this experience. The vast majority of transactions are of a positive nature between buyers and sellers who deal honestly with one another. Good luck.

Thank you all for all your input, ideas, suggestions, and even offers. I am overwhelmed with all your good wishes.
I emailed the Dealer, and he is going to take back the gun, he has not answered my question about absorbing any of the shipping.
I have successfully bought on Gunbroker before, but they have all been stainless guns. In the future I think that all blue guns will be bought in person, or I am going to request a lot of photos.
Best Wishes,
Tom

I personally am leary about buying blued guns that are advertised as LNIB or "98%" condition on Gunbroker. It seems that you end up paying a premium price for a gun that may or may not measure up. The 29 you describe may have other defects as well. I'm thinking a bent extractor rod or possibly a bent yoke from your description, plus beat up cylinder stop notches. Perhaps the seller will pony up a partial refund to pay for repairs. Otherwise, you have to cross your fingers and pray that this person returns your money. The only leverage you have now is possession of the gun and ability to leave negative feedback. Once the seller has the gun back, he may not care about the feedback.

Go for a partial refund, once the seller has the gun back he may take forever to refund you, if ever.

FWIW a new N-frame ejector rod is $7 at Midway.......but $900 is way too much for a gun in that condition.

Just the fact that your mentioning it on the forum tells me your not satisfied with the gun, Id send it back.

Send it back-eat the shipping,be happy he's taking it back-some dealers are not so nice.Occasionally eating an expense is simply part of the hobby and online experience.Forget about it and move on.

UPDATE:
For all of you that responded to this thread the Dealer is going to refund all of my money, my shipping, and the shipping to return the revolver to him.
I had originally misunderstood his policy, which was to refund the shipping. It said nothing about the return shipping to him though, which he is now going to reimburse.
Only a reputable Dealer would do this, and I think that he is a reputable Dealer. I do think that he tried to "slip one through" with his lack of describing the damage in his listing.
I will be interested in seeing if he fully describes this revolver when he re-lists it.
I see that over 1,000 people read this thread, I hope that my learning experience has benefited everyone that read this.
Best Wishes,
Tom

Glad to see it worked out for you & that you're also getting re-imbursed your return shipping charges.
I've always felt that should be done in a case like this, but you're lucky if you get the original shipping charge back.
Good for the dealer in doing the right thing.

AND, on the other hand, if he ( dealer) reads your last comments................................ I would have waited till I had cash (refund)in hand.

Mark

Glad this worked out for you tomtheturner. That revolver was originally misrepresented by the dealer. That type of behavior is very damaging to one's credibility. He did the right thing, and has hopefully learned his lesson........

I dont know. Tom, I would answer the question by asking myself would I have bought the revolver had I walked into a gunshop and saw and inspected it there, and would I buy it for the same amount?

Call me skeptical but wait till you receive the refund before saying he is reputable. He may say that to you now but after the gun is back in his hands he may say something like "Tom. Tom who? I don't know any Tom.". Let us know when you receive the refund.

I will keep you up to date on this. It will cost me some money, no matter what. It was very expensive to ship it back UPS/ First Day Air, {Revolver & display case} per the requirements of UPS. I believe that I will get my refund. I don't think that this Dealer is a crook at all, but like I had said before . . . He tried to "slip one through." When all is said and done if he does what he says he will I will still be out close to $100.00. The revolver is being delivered today, we will see how long the refund takes. I don't think that he will hold it either. I think that it will be sent in a timely manner. Maybe I am still looking at this through "rose-colored glasses," and I should be just angry as H . . ., but life is short. I am just glad that I did not keep this gun. It would have always bothered me, and eventually I would have had to get rid of it, probably for a LOT less than I paid for it originally. I don't think anybody would really want this gun with the damage on the cylinder. Certainly not for what I paid for it . . . eating the transfer fee, and a bunch of shipping costs will be a lot less than a $200.00 loss in selling it.
My son even got me a nice holster for this revolver at Xmas. I don't have any other 4" N frames, so I guess I really need to replace it. I will be looking hard at the Indy 1500 coming up soon.

You did the right thing, tomtheturner. Hopefully, the seller will do the right thing also. Eventually, you will fill that new holster with a fine revolver. Good luck........

Not to jack your thread, (well I guess I did) but when is it? I made the three hour trip and went to the one last September and had a great time!
