Your best gun that was not expensive

Mine would be my 1952 Combat Masterpiece that I picked up in a small local shop here in my town in excellent condition for $225 OTD.

Star Model PS
45 acp , 1911 clone but with no pesky grip safety, an improved exterior extractor and an improved pivoting trigger .

I loved that 45.... it was stolen in 1995 and I still miss it.
I keep it on the stolen gun list and hope to get it back some day.
I did recover the Ruger Blackhawk , in 2015 , that was stolen with the Star... so I'm not giving up on it .

That's an easy one to pick for me. This WWII Walther PPK war trophy was willed to me by a good friend, a WWII fighter pilot who passed away recently. Thus, its cost to me was zero, but my investment in remembering my friend is priceless.

I paid $35.00 in 1972 for my 1932 Enfield No. 2 Mk I. Practically mint.

Well, before this last weekend, I would have said it was my 586 no dash that looks like it had been beaten within an inch of it's life with an ugly stick. It shoots just as well as any of my other 357s so I think $160 was money well spent. I named it "Quazimodo."

Bu now it would have to be my .45 Colt SAA that I picked up at the gun show for $375. It had been refinished years ago and most markings on the frame were lost, but disassembly revealed that most parts are original and the serial on the bottom of the grip frame is correct, dating to 1895. Thinking about sending it to Turnbull.

Few months ago I walked into a gun shop and they had a Winchester 1894 stuck in the corner that literally had cobwebs all over it. Owner said nobody wanted 30-30's anymore and it had been there a few years. I prattled on how great the 6.5mm was and that was the only round you could kill anything bigger than a jackrabbit with now days.

Ended up walking out with a very dusty 1955 vintage Winchester 1894 carbine for $200, it cleaned up beautifully.

Happened two years ago. A fellow in his mid to late 20's died and bequeathed his firearms collection to his younger brother who is not a firearms enthusiast. Some of the collection had just arrived for consignment at the small LGS I frequent. I picked up a 2008 Browning Hi-Power, rarely fired, for $500. When I got it home, I found the original hand written sales ticket and the original out the door of $1,200.

Bought a brand new Model 27-3 for $200 back in 1987. Another was a 696 when they first came out for somewhere around $375 IIRC.
Lately I found a pristine 1943 Colt Official Police for $450.

PC Shield 9 w/tritium night sights (1.0 version) NIB for $399 last week. Talon rubber grips on the way. Standard Shields were going for $269.

My High Point 995TS carbine rifle, very accurate and shoots great! $265 new ;)

2013 I scored a 19-4 snubby for $250. Off this forum too. I don't have it anymore (dumb) but it was a nice score. I remember looking a long time at gunshows and online and even back then they were bringing $700-$900 depending on accouterments.

I bought a Wilson Combat 1911 that was brand new in my LGS for $1650. MSRP was around $4K and it was selling for $3750. He had a break in and the perp broke the case and the top shelf fell on the bottom tier of guns scratching them He got reimbursed for several through insurance so he sold me one after all as settles for $1650. I was nit in the market for this gun so I traded it at a Local gun show for a pristine S&W 4 screw 44 magnum pre 29 shipped in 1957 (birth year) The pre 29 was over priced at the show but when I showed him the WC he traded gladly (i showed him the scratches). So that was a great deal as I got what I really wanted at a very very good price. Also he got what he wanted.

I also bought a 22 2nd model M frame Ladysmith in original box for $1500. That was 40% less than what it was worth.
There are others but those 2 come to mind.

Man many of you folks are snagging bargains up thru today.

For me I ran gun shops and pawn shops for years. Found many bargains. Then there are folks walking the isles at gun shows with something for sale. My last 3 gun show bargains were a Ruger 357 SA revolver, 125, an Astra constable 22 for a little over a hundred and I carry this one constantly on the farm. A Marlin m25, 22 lr, for 40 bucks. I refilled used the grade 0 birch stock, draw files the front 1/2 of the bbl ti get rid of puts, blued ut and happened to be fixing a crack in a German pre war custom 8mm hunting rifle where I had to also glass bed the action to preserve the stock. The owner asked for this so he could shoot it. So I have this m25 Marlin apart on my bench and wondered how it would shoot with glass bedding. I prepped it, fixed the Mauser and put acraglass in the m25.
I owned a Anchutz and was pretty proud of it. I scoped the m25 and took it to the range. Heavy trigger and all it shot all in one he at 25 yards. I put the Anchutz over my shoulder and went to a gun show. It sold quickly. The m25 years later is still in my safe. Nope don't need a Win or cz 52 or a 10 22 with thousands of dollars in up grades. Nope, my 40 buck 22 is fine enough.
