Your First S&W

Model 28 no dash with 6 inch barrel. Given to me as a gift by my late Father. Still have it and it shoots great.
 
First smith

Bought a new nickeled Model 57 with 8 3/8" barrel in March, 1981, for silhouette shooting. Retired it, but still have it. Still learning how to do photos.

My first Smith & Wesson was a blue model 57 I purchased in 1973. It was followed by a 27-2 and a 29-2. I still have the 57 but the other one's are long gone.
 
About the same time I was ready to finally buy a handgun, S&W came out with the L frames. I had always admired the appearance of the Pythons and I bought a 686 at least in part because of the similarities in profile. I sitll have it and its still a favorite shooter and gets out if not weekly, at least once a month. Not long after buying that first one I saw one in a gun shop with a funny-looking finish, and bought a 4" CS-1. I Still have that one also.

A boring ol' Model 10-6 4-inch which was made in 1971 and purhased used for $75 as a Christmas present to myself in 1975.

It is still the primary carry piece.
 
My first gun bought by myself for my carry permit in 2002 is my 60 LS.

first S&W

Mine was a 442-1, bought it to use as a back-up gun a decade ago. Still CCW carry it daily in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster and still love it.
 
Mine was a Magna Ported Model 629 with a 4" barrel.
 
Mine was a nickle M15 4", that I traded for a blue M19 4", that I traded for a stainless M686 4" that I still have. Now I wish that I had the other two.:(
 
Model 10-6 about 15 years ago. Bought it on a lark. Still have. Still like it. Would be the last to go if it ever came to that.
 
Model 586 no dash 6 inch. Bought it in 1982...one of the first shipped to Canada. Still have it and after 27 years..the trigger is just about right lol
 
An ex-Commonwealth (Australian?) 5" M&P in .380-200 (.38 S&W).

I have no pictures of it because when I owned it (around '83), the only thing you could do with the pictures was pass them around, and it was as easy to show somebody the gun itself. I got rid of it because at the time, I was thinking about possibly becoming a cop after I got out of the Army and the caliber took it off of the table. I don't miss it that much. It's my next S&W that I miss, an M1917. That was a great gun. I think I traded it to get my 4" 29-2. I wish I still had it.

I don't remember, they tend to blur after a while. Probably a basic K frame 38 Special, very likely a Victory as they were always cheap and I was usually broke. Wait a Second, I remember now. It WAS a K frame, nickle plated, 2" barrel, SB. It was cheap because stainless was all the rage and no one wanted nickle.
 
A model 30 with a 2 inch barrel round butt. 32 long. Bought new in the 70s for 67.00. Sold it. I never keep any very long.
 
A Brazilian 1917 was my first

My first S&W was a Brazilian 1917, bought in April of '86 for $225. I probably paid way too much for it, they were commonly available for $150 at the time, but I didn't know that.

My second S&W was... another 1917. Bought this one in '89 for $125. It was a US Army that had been poorly refinished (buffed shiny and bright blued) so it became my knockaround gun and I've shot it quite a bit.

Next was a 642 .38 Special, which I eventually gave to a girlfriend. Hope she still has it.

I bought yet another 1917 in '92 for $125, but the finish on it was all mottled and messed up. It was still mechanically good so I had it refinished about 10 years ago. The gunsmith did a very good job on it.

(I've also bought a couple of Colt 1917s, but don't like them as well as the Smiths.)

At last count I have about 55 Smiths, from the .22 Long Ladysmith to the .500 S&W.

Should have gone past the shiny new pistol straight over to the funny old revolvers, eh?

My first was a k22 and my second was m29 about 10 minutes after I bought the 22.

K38 Masterpiece. Brand new and less than $100.00. Boy do I feel old thinking about that one!
 
My first Smith was a 645 semi-auto, my first Smith revolver was a 625-2 Model of 1989. Both are keepers...
 
I bought a 29-2 with a 6.5"bbl from an Alaska state trooper in the 1990 for $350.
It had been hard chromed and probably had an action job. I think it had been shot a lot. I know I reloaded 3600 rounds for it that long Alaskan winter. It got to were it wouldn't reliably rotate the cylinder when cocked single action by springtime. I'd been hooked on S&W N frames by then and have never been without at least one since.
I traded it to a guy with a "cherry" Browning Hi Power that would jam up tighter than hell.
I guess we both got what we deserved in that deal.
 
Model 28, 6", circa 1974. Later traded it for a 686 (no dashes at that time), then went nuts buying guns.

Recently been collecting Model 28s again. Still love those things!
