Giving up on the Shield *UPDATED*

After waiting for a Shield since April, I finally gave up and bought a similar (9 mm, slim, small, etc.) personal defense pistol by another manufacturer (which will remain nameless). I took it to the range to begin putting the usual 200 rds to break in and on the first round, the gun went "click". The next day, I took it back to the dealer, who offered to send it back to the manufacturer. While I was filling out the return form, I asked whether he had gotten any Shields in the last two days. Keep in mind that I had been calling this dealer and five other major dealers in the central Virginia area at least once a week since June. The dealer said he had just gotten one in and brought it over to me. I immediately told him I'd take it and asked what he would give me for the lemon I bought a few days earlier. In five minutes we closed the deal and in another 20 minutes the paper work was done.

Yes, Virginia. There is a Santa Claus. Keep the faith!

I bet your lemon was a Kahr CM9.(200 round break-in is advised per owners manual.)

I owned one and lucked out after the 4th trip back in 6 months and convinced Kahr to cut me a check for the full cost less sales tax.

You are going to enjoy your Shield in 9mm. It is my only ccw it is that nice.

I was looking for one and gave up for now. Tried the XDS didn't like it much but I did like a XDm 3.8 .45.
My first Springfield and first .45.
I bit OT I know but I did look for a shield, in fact I passed on two when Smith initially flooded the market. I assumed they would simply continue to be plentiful!

Couple of things, first it's not worth the wait it's a compact .40 or 9 just like all the rest. It's all hype and BS don't get caught up in it in another 6 months they will be all over the internet. Secondly, wholesale cost on one of them is like $350 (I was told) so don't be an idiot and pay $490 or above and get screwed by the unscrupulous GS looking to cash in on the weak inventory flow. It reminds me of the Cabbage patch dolls from many years ago for those that are old enough to remember that.

Sounds like you haven't been able to find one yet... ;)

My Feelings exactly. I don't think mythree ever got to shoot one, or he'd KNOW it's NOT 'Just like all the rest'. ;)

I have shot most, if not all of the Subcompact Single-Stacks competing with the Shield. The Nano, PF-9, LC9, DB9 (to name a few) have MUCH more felt recoil, which (usually) translates to more muzzle flip, which does result in more time getting back on target for followup shots. At my age, my hand starts to hurt after 30-50 rounds through the pistols listed above. The Shield's felt recoil is about the same (for me) as the G26, or M&Pc, allowing me to shoot all day with it, if I wanted to.
Very good for a 3" Subcompact.

I do agree with mythree's statement though about NOT giving in to the Jacked up prices. I got mine for under $400 and I would NOT have paid over MSRP. :)

I've tried just about every compact or subcompact on the market, looking for a good CCW pistol, except for the Nano. (I have handled that one in the store, and it didn't appeal to me.) The Shield is hands down the best one I've come across. ;)

I'm glad the OP found a shield. I had a very similar experience with getting my Shield. I put 50% down with a LGS to "hold a spot." I waited 2 months with only shrugged shoulders and "no idea!" responses. I decided to start getting answers and I as a result, I have learned quite a bit about the politics of firearm manufacturers, distributors, and dealers.

How it shook loose was, never put $ down with an LGS, never try and get a hard-to-get gun from any LGS that isn't the biggest LGS in your state, and if it's something as hot as a Shield, be willing to go out-of-state and pay the shipping and transfer fee.

Once I realized those pieces of the puzzle, I cancelled my "pre-order" with the LGS, got my $ back, and had a Shield in my hand 4 days later (thanks to an awesome member on here who owns a LGS down in Florida who transferred one to me up in NC).

I waited for mine for about 6 weeks ( $419) "Took it" to the range a few days ago, opened my gun bag and there it WASN'T. I forgot to pack it in. SO, it's still unfired and I'm anxious to hear/read YOUR experiences with this weapon.
Any problems with dropping the mags as seems to happen with the 40's ?
Mark
