Not losing any sleep over a possible assault weapons ban

Not necessarily in your case, but I have heard this a lot lately. In some cases, in a very condescending manner.

I would venture to guess, a lot of people who are NRA members, like me dont know how, didnt know about it, or didnt take the time to fool with enabling it.

After about 20 of these and being tired of being browbeat with it, I finally took the 10 seconds to go in and enable it.

Been an NRA member for about 20 years, even though I dont agree with some of their things. I dont think people should make assumptions just based on whether or not they dont have the NRA logo think enabled in their profile.

Happy now?

Talk about condescending?

It's not rocket science on how to post an affiliation emblem, NRA, Military, LEO etc. If one does not know how, just ask.

You seemed to have figured it out;)

It may not be rocket science, or difficult, but most probably dont know or dont care, and dont need or want the self appointed "forum police" (not the mods) telling them they should be doing something they probably dont even care about.

But you are right, I am not the brightest bulb, and I figured it out... eventually

While I am not in the market for any assult type weapons either, I want the right to acquire one should I choose to do so. I want others to have the right.
The bigger issue is rolling over for bullsh#t legislation that will do little to solve the problem and a lot to get in the way of solid citizens' desire to enjoy a great sport.

For those of you who think this is about Gun Control, you are sadly mistaken. Gun Control is the first necessary step in controlling any population. This fight is about our rights as a free people. It starts with gun control and goes anywhere the government wants from there... Here's a short history lesson to illustrate my point:

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
If you value your freedom, please spread this antigun-control message to all of your friends.
SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!
SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE.
SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!
IT'S A NO BRAINER!
DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.

You're not imagining it, history shows that governments always manipulate tragedies to attempt to disarm the people!

Gag & Puke....

My point is that being upset about the attack on the 2nd Amendment isn't going to help.

I am also not spending time, effort and money to acquire items that would pass muster under a new ban.

The best thing I can do to help the 2nd Amendment is to educate my family and friends about responsible gun ownership. Living in NJ, writing to my elected officials will NOT help, it will only encourage them in their attacks on the RTKBA.

BULLSHIRT... Okay Mr. Myopic, what it if you were to ever move out of NJ?

You want the rest of us to be as apathetic as you? This attitude makes me sick to the core...

The enemy is banking on our dissolution and attitudes such as yours are playing into their hands...

We either hang together or we hang separately.

If there is an "assault weapons ban" or a ban on "high capacity magazines" I will comply, and be inconvenienced, but I am not losing sleep over it and I am not buying or selling anything in anticipation.

Basically, with a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum, a Remington 31 and a Winchester Model 70 I can't say I am not armed.

If I could protect the 2nd Amendment I would, but I can't. I only have one vote and I live in New Jersey. To me, a ban on evil black rifles and/or high capacity magazines is just not worth my worrying about.

Anyone else feel similarly apathetic and resigned to losing a little more Liberty?

Forgive me for sounded harsh, but if you feel that way then sell your guns. Then you have nothing to worry about. Otherwise you should engage in the fight and stay engaged, because you really don't know what you do that can change somebody or something. I live in IL. Go look around the 2A forum and see what we are dealing with today. It is more than just one type of gun. Their true agenda is about any gun you own.

Alexander Solzhenitsin had a few things to say about tyranny and totalitarianism in his "Gulag Archepelago"--which, if we had a true educational system, would show up now and then in excerpt form. It's doubtful, however, that they could find time away from instruction in the use of condoms to wedge it in...

"Don't believe them, don't fear them, don't ask anything of them."

I would just like to ask any of the Politicians:

Sir or Mam, do you have body guards?

Well yes we do, why?

Do they carry guns? Are the semi auto or full auto?

Well yes they do. I don't know about those things

Why???

Well to protect me from harm.

So you need protection?

Yes, yes I do.

How about me or us. We elected you. Are we not worth protecting? Are we less or are you more important than us??

Is my life worth protecting, will your body guards protect me also??

Of course logic never works.

The attack on the 2a has nothing to do with protecting children or anybody else. It is all about stripping citizens of their ability to resist government authority should they ever need to do so.

If the liberals are so concerned about saving innocents then why aren't they also screaming about alcohol, which levels FAR MORE CARNAGE on our society in terms of death; not to mention collatoral damage in the form of birth defects, broken families and financial strain on our healthcare system.

BTW I do not drink, but do support the right of responsible citizens who choose to do so.

Same reason thy don't ban smoking or tobacco. There is too much money in it for THEM. They taxed the heck out of cigarettes and people are still puffing away.

( I smoked and drank for 30 years, and it ain't the Govt that got me to quit)

I'm not losing sleep because this administration has no designs on our guns, I was told that for months and months last year, right here in this forum. It's all good, sleep well.

Amen brother, I'd like to see those who are "guilty" sack up and own up to it.

You mean AR15, antigunners use the term assault weapons.

Guns first, Education Second. Unbeknown to the greater majority of voters and parents, the Obama administration is forcing states to subscribe to its "Common Core" educational system. The Federal Government will set the standards and write the texts for what your kids and grand kids learn in school! Think I'm kidding? ...

HOLLAND: Obama quietly implements Common Core - Washington Times

We need to band together

I don't have any use for assault weapons or high capacity magazines and I am for reasonable controls but I'm afraid it won't stop there. People are out to make it as difficult as possible (if not totally impossible) to obtain guns and that is going to carry over and hurt recreational shooting of all sorts. You only have one vote, but the gun community in the US has LOTS of votes.

Well, a post about not my not going out and buying stuff willy nilly in anticipation of what seems to me inevitable additional gun control legislation certainly opened up a can of worms.

The stirring and churning did, however, encourage me to send a contribution to the NRA.

Damn people, stop doing half of the Anti-Gunners work for them and calling AR's etc Assault Weapons, they are rifles, period.

Yes
Language matters, including nomenclature.

If it was not so serious, it would be funny that so many of the anti-gun crowd seriously believe that "Assault Weapon" actually means something.

What the Anti's who know something are hoping to ban in this legislative window of opportunity is: "Any semi-automatic rifle capable of accepting a removable magazine holding greater than __ rounds or having a fixed magazine capable of holding greater than __ rounds."

Semi-auto handguns are next

I debated this with some gun owning BO supporters I know prior to the election. They are no where to be found now.
