I pass this bit of news on because so many here have expressed interest in the goings on at our southern border. A part of this operation took place less than three blocks from the U.S. - Mexico Bridge.
Knowing many individuals are armed is regularly said by Mexican outlaws to be a deterrent, rather than Border Patrol.

[A couple weeks ago I had the chance to interview two coyotes that had been captured by a ranch foreman:
One laughed and said to me (when I asked if he had ever heard of plans to kidnap Americans on remote ranches on the border)
"No way, man! They're all armed...and they'll shoot you!"

Pretty simple.]

This is the short bit from Chris Covert/ Borderland Beat.

Mexican security forces located and released 61 individuals in Reynosa, Tamaulipas they said were being held for ransom, according to an official Mexican news release.

According to the news release posted on the state government website of Tamaulipas, a Mexican Army unit was dispatched to a residence in Las Fuentes colony based on an anonymous citizen complaint. There they found a number of men and women being held against their will inside.

Among the captives were 33 Guatemalans, 20 Salvadorans, four Hondurans, three Mexicans and one Nicaraguan. The news release said men and women were in that group, but failed to detail a count. Some of the captives had been physically abused.

Soldiers were told that some of the captives has been kidnapped various locations in Reynosa including bus stops and local markets.

How many more get transported across, for sex trade, carry drugs or are murdered in cold blood we have no way of knowing.

I hope I never see the day that they are not armed or the day they will not shoot anyone trying to kidnap them.
