Interesting story.
I was driving to work one warm sunny day a few decades ago and this song came on the radio.
Just then a lowered mini-truck pulled out in front of me.
His license plate said "SATAN."
Well now that's an interesting thing.
I'm driving down the road, led by Satan, listening to "Running with the Devil."
Hmm...

Another story , though this one is from the past!
Southern Illinois, Shawnee National Forest, has a large series of rock formations known as Garden of the Gods. Rocks similar to what is in the poster. We were on a large organized trail ride, and G.O.T.G. was the lunch location. Lunch was catered and after the lunch a period of an hour or so was given for rest or climbing around as desired.
A girl of about 18 decided to try jumping as illustrated in the poster. She jumped from a rock to another. She forgot she had spurs on and on the landing the spurs hit first and caused her to fall! She fell about 40' or so, instead of several hundred if she had sent the other way. We had to await a helicoptor rescue, move the horses due to prop wash etc.
We later learned her spine was permanently damaged, and she has no feeling or movement from some point in her upper back, down! She still rides but in a special saddle, strapped in! The horse is trained to lie down so they can put her in the saddle and get her out. 😖

As far as pragmatic, I believe each person handles adversity, tragedy, and life as best they can! They handle it in their own way, nobody the same, no right or wrong, just coping, until they determine it is time to move on, and where they move on to is unknown, till it happens! And afterwards, whatever, then almighty judges you!
Of course sometimes society has to arrange for the meeting to be judged !
If dings or more coming so be it ? 😗

And now back to the serious stuff. The war still goes on in the Pacific on this date in 1945. The notes of Homer Bast, Commanding Officer USS Yolo/LST(M) 677/APB 43.

June 23, 1945

Both reefers pulled out leaving the provisioning to us. Ship after ship came alongside taxing our resources. The fairly good weather of the last few days turned cold with 18 knot winds and plenty of swell.

After breakfast, a shave and shower, I called on the LST Flot commander who gave me no satisfaction about replacing our boats, which have withstood the elements and the banging for these months. It is only through the skills of the enginemen that they continue to run. They are worn out! At noontime we saw, and heard, the drama of the surrender of the island. Following a chorus of well dones, things continued as before.

In the summer of '76, the Randolph County, NC sheriffs dept. conducted a public "brisket burning".

To make a point to the public, they advertised the date, time and location.

They did not think it through.

I and hippies from five counties descended like locusts in order to get a 'whiff of Jiff'.

It was indeed a sight. The surrounding Waffle Houses were packed.
