FBI agent loses gun during dance back flip

Mexican Carry Anyone?

I'm waiting for the Mexican carry proponents to flock to the agent's defense. As a former federal firearms instructor exposed to all the major gun-carrying agencies, I've seen plenty of examples of agents not taking handgun responsibility and security seriously.

The only way that gun went off was to pull the trigger. In Hoover's time, that agent would have been sacked on the spot. In today's climate, he'll someday be the director.

Unless it has a strap snapped over the gun......one should expect he might lose the gun in a maneuver like that.

The gun may have had a safety and been on safe when the dance started.......safety may have been pushed to off in the crazy jumping.

Finger in the trigger guard, obviously, is a no-no.

His response should have been, "Is everybody ok?" and tending to the injured rather than a quick exit.

I'd say he will never carry a gun again because he'll be a convicted felon.

It's interesting that 1) we don't see his face in the video, and 2) his name hasn't been released. I'm sure that's just protocol, but I'm not sure exactly why.

I mean, if that had been me, my name and face would be plastered all over our local newspaper. Knowing how our editor operates, he would probably include my address and phone number in the article, too.

Bottom line, no matter how this turns out, whether he's canned or not, the guy is going to have a tough time ever living this one down. Kinda like that redheaded gal who went to our high school back in the 1960's. She's almost 70 now and, from what I understand, those naked pictures of her drunk on the beach are still turning up. And like her, his grandkids will probably be asking him questions about the incident.:D

Sometimes, our stupid actions keep coming back to haunt us...no matter how high the price we paid. Like the ol' joke about the former crocodile hunter..."Hey, Stumpy!! Tell that story again about how you used to reach down the crocodiles' throats with your bare hands to unhook 'em!":)

Of course, we'll probably never find out the final outcome. It'll be handled without a lot of press coverage. Dang...that's too bad because inquiring minds want to know!:)

She probably wasn't caring a Glock, at least not "Mexican Carry"!

Best,
Rick

The very "Special Agent/Idiot," dancing and shooting his firearm off in the world wide video, will be the new recruiting poster boy for the (FBI) Famous But Incompetent. He did the Bureau and the law enforcement profession proud. Hoover must be turning over in his grave!

I'm sure the ladies were quite impressed.

Yup,

And he'll probably do it again ;):D

.
I work (briefly) with a officer that shot himself in the foot, like really with a rifle,
while setting in the un-marked vehicle waiting to commence a drug raid....

The local J-C club named him 'officer of the year' at the county fair.

Just glad I don't have to work with that bunch of clowns anymore.

An egregious case of thread drift in an important topic...

This is not the place for an attempt at humor, if that's what was intended. At least, post pics of cute cheerleaders, the only worthwhile aspect of football.

You are right of course. Mea culpa!

the agent should be fired for the sole reason he did not render aid to the man he shot and some reports said he tried to flee .. This alone should be enough to have his discipline include FIRING .. and local police should file charges against him !!

You might think, well if I have one beer, or one shot, or whatever it might be, I'm not intoxicated because I'm not a .08, or I'm not a .05. You'd be mistaken because you're right now thinking about the legal standard for driving, not the legal standard for possessing a firearm. There is no actual per se or statutory legal standard, so it's a totally subjective standard, i.e. it is up to the police officer on whether or not you are intoxicated. So, if you're using bad judgment and you've got some alcohol on your breath, the police officer is going to say you're intoxicated, and you're going to be facing a criminal charge for doing something you really shouldn't be doing in the first place.

This will all come out in the end .. but believe his CAREER in the FBI is over and all other police jobs should be over too ..

It's not protocol, it seems more like BS to me. There is no indication he was performing any official duty, but admittedly we don't know that for sure. If he wasn't, he should be handled in the reporting of the incident just like any other person AND he should be properly identified as an off-duty FBI Agent since, even when off-duty, he is still considered a "public person." If journalistic standards have changed since I was taught them (regarding public and private persons) or I am otherwise wrong about that, I do apologize, but from my perspective, not identifying this individual is improper. If he was actually working in some official capacity, he might legitimately receive different treatment by the press, but otherwise...

From what I can see in general, the press has handily beaten the Bureau in the race of declining competence and excellence. :D

You should see what passes for a degree now ...
since a law degree was just too hard ... they invented criminal justice ... this gets you nowhere, but back in school to see what sociology can do since CJ won't

I like to think I've done quite well with my CJ major and sociology minor (and a Masters in Public Administration) . . .

Had I shot an unarmed man, sober or not, I would be hard at work, once the scene was safe, administering whatever aid I could come up with and what he would allow when the EMTs or cops showed up. That should have been his main duty after the shooting stopped.

God, I hope that bar isn't close to a school!
