FBI agent loses gun during dance back flip

Best case, he's looking at 30-60 days on the beach and remedial firearms training until he begs for mercy.

This brings up a good point that many outside law enforcement may not consider. Assuming you mean an actual suspension without pay, this very routine form of punishment can result in a monetary loss to an officer/agent (and by extension, his or her family) of thousands of dollars. In the case of a federal agent, 60 days probably amounts to $20,000 or more, depending on how it's calculated. It's a vacation, but it's an unpaid one. Unfortunately, something called the Fair Labor Standards Act prevents them from making him show up for work AND forfeiting his pay (although my knowledge of that law is now somewhat dated).

This lad was playing at a pretty hip and cool nightspot in downtown Denver.

Since the Denver DA will decide criminal charges, since this is running on local news pretty heavily and since our boy shot someone, I suspect he's in for some career ending criminal prosecution.

A good example of where the only difference between an amateur and a professional is that a professional gets paid for it.

I DON'T KNOW, FOR SURE!

...alcohol was involved?

Absolutely, guy made a very bad mistake in negligently discharging his gun. But there is nothing I see in the video that suggests he was intoxicated, reckless or in thugville.

Sure does need a better holster. And surely should have displayed more empathy for the victim if, in fact, he knew someone was hit.

And why does he need a updated resume'? Does every person who has a negligent discharge get fired from his/her job?

Be safe.

That time of night at The MILE HIGH DISTILLERY AND "TASTING BAR"??? JUST A WILD GUESS. Doing what he did was inexcusable, doing it while sober seems unlikely. If I were a gambling man I'd bet some liquid social lubricant was involved. But I've been wrong before.

A complete utter disgrace in every sense of the word. Yes, a professional charged with caring a weapon should be held to the highest standard and fired for a negligent discharge. He probably should be charged with several crimes and pay every penny it takes to care for the injury his stupidity caused to an innocent bystander. There is no excuse for this idiot. And he can't dance.

"Times have changed since a young Border Patrolman could kill his supervisor while practicing quick draw in the office and go on to have a distinguished career, make TV appearances, write books and magazine articles, and be revered for his accomplishments"

Not to sound absolutely stupid, but I really don't know.

Who did that?

I know without a doubt I couldn't do that dance without at least 6 vodkas. Joe

After looking at that clip, I know that agent knucklehead can't either.

Just to clarify the holster or no holster question-
You can see the belt clip for his holster in the vid.

A lot will depend on if he is charged criminally. If he is, and is convicted, he will probably be fired.

If not, the Bureau investigation will focus on following procedures. If he was intoxicated, he'll probably be fired. If his G-ride is in the parking lot, he'll have that to deal with. If he was carrying without a holster or in an unapproved holster, or carrying an unapproved gun they'll pile that on.

His actions after the shot will be scrutinized too. Did he render aid? Stick around for the cops? Try to badge his way out of it?

Best case, he's looking at 30-60 days on the beach and remedial firearms training until he begs for mercy. Worst case, a criminal charge and firing.

Will they tack on stupid points?
I'm thinkin maybe some sort of dance qualification should be added to the Bureau's recruitment standards??. :D
I hope the guy that caught the bullet is OK.

Addendum to FBI Firearms Training Manual (effective immediately)...
Avoid back flips at all times while dancing unless gun is properly secured.
Seriously though, am glad victim didn't die and hopefully is alright.
Agent dumbazz needs to take a permanent hike (unarmed) from present job.

I'm certainly not disputing it, but there isn't much info on the internet about Bill Jordan shooting a supervisor. All I could find was some anecdotal stories in The Firing Line Forum from 2001.

Did Bill Jordon shoot his partner? [Archive] - The Firing Line Forums

He shot through a wall and killed 58 year old John A. Rector in the Chula Vista office.

Jordan has spoken about it, people who knew Jordan spoke about it, and Rector's daughter has spoken about how she forgave Jordan, who was appropriately devasted by the incident.

In those days an accident was an accident. Jordan went on to a brilliant career in LE and firearms journalism. Nowadays, not so much.

Hope the injured bystander comes out ok.

.

Brand new truck, fully loaded, plus all medical expenses, if he's smart enough to take the check from the nice Bureau lawyer currently standing in the hospital hallway.

If he decides to litigate for more, he'll get enough for a used Yaris 6 years from now.
