Who here has a fast car?

In '69 I had a part time night job in a bar. I also had a '65 Corvette that I drove to and from that part time job. I got myself 4 speed tickets for doing over 100 on a road tagged at 75mph in the space of 3 months driving home from the bar. Lost my DL for 3 months. I had hired a lawyer to help me at court but my position was indefensible. The advise he gave to after my last conviction and we parted ways was "don't speed". Had to quit the bar job. My day job required a lot of driving in a company car, but fortunately they found me work around the shop for 3 months. The whole experience was quite a pain in the butt. I drive the speed limit or below now. People that ride with me in my truck have sometimes gotten out and walked to our destination and arrived well ahead of me.

My 50th birthday present to myself. I'm 63 now. 2005 GT Mustang. smoked a 500 series BMW on the interstate the first week I had it. They had just come out with the retro style and this was the 10th GT the dealership had sold. It's still fairly stock and will still smoke the tires.

Hot rod trucks count? This thing is scary fast, but it handles like it's on rails.

Fast Car

.Hi:
Take the governor off and speed down the highway ! Ignore the flashing blue lights in your rear view mirror. After you finally stop you will get to meet officers from different agencies and have an interesting conversation with them.
(p.s. Can I have your stuff ?)

My wife's Buick LaCrosse with 149K miles was costing us a fortune in repairs so we decided to get her a new SUV. She looked at all the brands and finally decided a Nissan Murano was what she wanted and it was about $43K with her "must have" sunroof and heated leather seats. But then we saw a brand new looking 2017 Infinity QX 50 with 17,500 miles for $23,400 so we snagged it and she loves it and finally let me drive it, and now I LOVE it! I had no idea SUVs were so fast, it will do zero to sixty in 5.3 seconds and a 13.9 quarter mile time, and a governor holds it's top speed down to 147 mph or else it would go about 160. Most of the cars when I was in high school wouldn't beat that unless they were hopped up, including the 396 Chevelle's, 400 GTO's, and 440 Challengers. Who else here owns a car that will beat 14 seconds in the quarter mile?

98 Corvette convertible, which my Dad bought new. Not as some of the newer cars, but still fun and fast enough.

I guess there are supercharger kits out there, but that opens a whole can of worms...

My 2011 Camaro 1LS is a V6 with a manual tranny. Rated at 312hp it is pretty zippy. It will easily hit the speed limiter at 155. A couple of minor mods I am going to do will get it to ~350hp or a dab more.

PS it also gets about 26mpg :)

My 450 hp 2017 Camaro will do a 12.5 sec 1/4mile easily on stock tires. Handles really well too. How amazing how the performance have changed over the years.

I love how you can just barely see daylight under the passenger front tire in this photo!

Takes some serious speed and g-forces to lift that inside front tire.

Great picture.

According to the Internet (so it must be true) your wife's SUV is packing 325 hp. That'll get you down the street pretty well most days.;)

The 2008 Jaguar XKR I owned was a sub 13 sec 1/4 mile beast. The XJ was sub 14 sec 4-door.

|Had lots of fast cars...None of the Vettes were the fastest, though. Fastest big car 64 Impala 409 I had changes the 2- 4 bbls to 3 deuces. It would do 13 seconds...maybe a bit faster on a good day. Most fun were two..57 Chevy convertible with fuel injection.. and the 69 Z 28 I had. Had the whiniest 4 speed in existence. Would do 150 even with the graring. Paid for that car racing a guy in a P yellow Boss 302 Mustang over 4 weeks time. He just couldn't believe I could beat him by a 1/2 car length every time. Cars did not cost as much in those days. I bought the Camaro for 3000 dollars cash..tax tags etc with the cost of a Dyna tune thrown in.. Paid with 2-1000 dollar bills and 2-500s. You could still get them and my mother worked in a bank ordered them for me. Bait ya know. The dealership put one of the 500s framed on the wall for a year or so... My mentor(2nd father) taught me the value of cash money many years ago. He and I bought many tractors and farm equipment on the cheap with 100 and 500 dollar bills

Fast is a relative term, kind of depends on what and where the race is. Car that wins the 1/4 mile chances will not take turns like a Mini Cooper. Mini Cooper isn't known for off roading.
So my old 1994 GMC Jimmy is FAST depending on what you have and I pick the place to race that 1/4 mile. Don't worry about "got milk" question is got ground clearance?

Great threads but it hurts!! My 70 Challenger had the 383 magnum but is long gone now. Paid $2,400 back in 1972 for it! Yeah I know should have kept it. Amazing how they came back with the horsepower these days. But then for $40,000 it should offer something.

I'm still driving my 6th Corvette which is an 89 convertible. It has a listed top speed of 146 and a quarter mile time of 14.4. At my age I doubt if I'll ever test the upper parameters.

...I have a long time project car that was fairly fast last time I drove it...

...283 fuelie short block...

...later 2.02 1.60 slant plug heads...

...dual point ignition...Hooker headers...

...Webber clutch in a Lakewood scattershield...

...Muncie 4 speed...Hurst shifter...

...4.88 positraction rear end...

...I bought it with no engine...and the transmission in the trunk for $750 dollars in 1973...

My 1971 Ferrari is not designed for drag racing, but if you want to take me at a track like Laguna Seca, then let's see what happens. A few words of caution; Turn 2 is a down hill decreasing radius turn. Take it easy or you'll go off the track. Tip-toe down the corkscrew or you'll fall over. If you start the apex too soon at Turn 11, you'll hit the wall.
