What's flying off the shelf at your local Gun shop?

We've been there before.

Here in North Carolina, many stores are closed due to the Coronavirus situation so I can't judge what's hot and what isn't. We've had these panics before and I feel it's best to just sit tight. Besides you can't eat firearms and ammo and both would make a poor substitute for bathroom tissue.

I fully respect a citizen's right to acquire firearms for self protection. But can we own too much stuff? Can we over-emphasize the remote possibility of a complete societal breakdown with all its potential ramifications, including violence? I do keep an AR-15 available but as I can only shoot one at a time, I don't think I need more.

Spam ....albeit and acquired taste , can be pretty tasty if prepared properly.
Slice em' up
put em' on top of a cookie sheet and grill em' outdoors
season to your liking and put em' on a hamburger bun , an onion roll and then dress them up properly.....pickels - maters' , lettuce ect...
or just on a plate w some eggs.....
its not for everybody , but it works for me and my crew (not the family) :)

I grew up on fried spam sandwiches on white bread with mayo. Actually there's something good about it. ;~}

The mayor of my fine city just ordered a "lockdown," whatever that is, of the city effective 4:30 pm today until April 30.

My preferred LGS was only allowing 5 customers in the shop at any time, when they unlocked the door to let one out, one was allowed in.

They told me that they're closed indefinitely after today and couldn't answer about the pending gun sales (we have to wait 2 weeks for any handgun purchase).

The only public shooting range is run by the city, it's closed until April 30.

"Paradise" sucks sometimes.

Twin Cities, MN I haven't checked their website today but yesterday,
9mm gone, most everything else is available and prices seem reasonable.

Getting notifications from my usual bullet suppliers of longer than normal delivery times.
Glad a bought a supply of powder and a few thousand primers a couple of months ago.

I'm not even sure at this point as I just assume everything is. Fortunately I'm not in the position that I need anything.

Amen to that! ^^^^

Didn't just listen and nod my head. History repeats and so do pandemics. I was figuring on the bird flu mutating and transfer to humans. Wrong on that score, but viruses mutate (that's their job), and something would be along, sooner or later, something like now.

That, along with living in SoFl for 58 years with hurricane season, you stay stocked up, not just when a storm threatens.

I just called my LGS - they still have powder, but are completely sold out of rifle primers, both magnum and standard.

They had thousands a couple of weeks ago.

I haven't bothered to check any of the local shops. I drove by the bigger fancier LGS a couple of days ago. Saturday, I think. Their parking lot was full. I'm short on 45ACP but good on all else. I thought I had more 45ACP but I guess not and I've been blowing through it lately. I actually have more 9mm than I thought I did. Mostly range fodder. A fair amount of 10mm but mostly very mild range fodder that's just moderate 40 in a 10 case.

I'll make sure to restock the 45ACP sufficiently when the scare is over.

First of all, I am really happy that I've always made a habit of keeping plenty of ammo on hand. I do not need to worry at all about having enough factory ammo for the foreseeable future. I suppose I cannot answer your question because I don't need to go ammo shopping. The irrational panic run on guns and ammo (or TP) when stuff like this happens is really nothing more than mass hysteria.

I was able to order cast revolver bullets for reloading. Auto pistol bullets have to be back ordered.

I suppose, as in 08, the revolver stuff will be available for a while until all of the auto pistol guns and ammo are gone.

The silver lining? I've been holding off on selling some of my collection because the prices are so low. That may be about to change, big time. I can finally get rid of all of those .40s that I bought back in the '90s. Arthritis has forced me out of the .44 game. I can sell that stuff too.

Will be keeping an eye on GunBroker...

Rubberneck

I'm curious as well, but have no need to go into a gun-store. Here in Washington State we've been asked to avoid going out in public, especially where people tend to congregate, except to buy groceries and exercise, or go to essential jobs.

I have many guns and much ammo, so no need to go into a gun store. I kind of question why anyone feels the need to right now. It seems similar to the need the kids from the nearby university have to hang out together. We're social creatures, but the gun-stores are doing fine without me going in to rubberneck.

I think the OP was trying to get a handle on how many were not rubbernecking

Not the word I'd choose

Maybe. Then again n some places it's harder to get a handgun then a shotgun. Many people do have Granpas double barrel hanging around. There are about 9 million 870s alone out there. A 870 or a sawed off double barrel is still a formidable weapon

Formidable, how about devastating?

I'm not sure we're going to get there. There's plenty of 9's, .40's, and .45's at the on-line distributors, & at the same low prices they've always been.

Ammo seems to be the only thing that's going up in price.

Put a high capacity semi-auto in the hands of a non shooting, first time gun owner whose in panic mode over a pandemic?

Not sure what could go wrong with that...

I stopped in my favorite LGS today for the first time in probably 3 weeks. I don't need anything, I was just curious & wanted to say howdy to some friends. The parking lot was pretty full, as was the store. I just wandered around looking.

Several 1911 style used guns still there, but most of the used higher capacity handguns that they normally have were cleaned out. Ammo for center fire handguns was about gone, but there was plenty of most rifle ammo ('cept .223) and rimfire was in good shape.

Long guns appeared in good supply, other than the scatterguns, and reloading items were aplenty. I actually decided to grab a can of Trail Boss for my 45 colt loading.

I noticed fewer AR's now that I think about it, and a basket usually full of P-mags had 5-6 lonely survivors. Other than a few waves and quick "How'yas", I didn't bother them to chit chat about sales.

Thinking of dropping in on my favorite pawn shop later this week to see how their supply of used guns is holding out,...... or not.

Thanking the Lord I've always felt the need to have plenty on hand, and that my wife bought groceries the same way.

Praying for our leaders and country daily.

Check my local favorite store and they are totally out of handguns and ammo. I then logged into Cabela's and found some 9 mm so I order 200 rounds.

I knew I should have ordered ammo last month. I'll learn. I wish I didn't stop reloading. At that time I always had components for 10000 rounds sitting around. I also casted my own bullets. I had to get out of it because my wife wanted to move into assisted living space. Once I sold all of my equipment she decided to stay were we are.

I started back by buying .22s. I think I've got enough to last me with over 40K.

I just read this whole thread and then I opened the safe and the closet. I don't need to go anywhere near a LGS or anywhere that sells projectiles. I sat in awe for a few minutes and locked up again. Don't it make you feel good?

It sure does! With time on my hands I went through my ammo cans and consolidated mostly everything by caliber. Found out I had 100s of rounds for the only .25 I own but that's ok with me--have you seen the price of .25 ACP lately?

I just purchased 3 cases of 9mm from my lgs 2 weeks ago when they had a pre-gun show sale and I bought 1700 rounds of .38 from a club member moving to NM. With what I've already got on hand I'm set for a good long time.
