For all those who thought the SC decision allowing NY residents to carry was a victory, the city has found a way to make it even worse than it was. Not only is virtually every public place in the state a sensitive area, so the permits are useless, those living in the city will have to reapply before 10/18, and with the backlog of previous applications added on to the new applications, permits can take months to over a year to be granted. Some victory this was, huh? Expect every other state that restricted gun ownership to follow the same tactic.

Their sensitive areas definition will not survive scrutiny - but there will have to be more litigation.

Which will take years. No surprise here.
A third of the people on this forum will be dead and gone before that happens, if ever.

More than likely. But when the Safe Act was passed the 7 round magazine limit was quickly challenged and overturned, but I gotta think the process would have started on that. My gut is telling me the challenge, if one is Eve ever filed, will be a half hearted attempt at best.

We're gonna look back on the 1994 AWB as the good old days. I emailed my senator about the bill and he confidently wrote back that he supports the ban. they're not even hiding it anymore.

Did you think that just because a SC ruling that the controlling elite were going to take the thumb of the peasants? This is an ongoing struggle that has been going on for many years and will continue to do so long after we are gone. At the founding of this nation there was those who wanted a ruling elite. We the people have to guard agents this constantly and defend the Constitution and the bill of rights. Join the NRA even if you don't like Wayne LaPierre, GOA, and your state org. Try to reduce the amount of $ you spend with woke co. like Disney and its subsidiaries. KEEP UP THE FIGHT

You should then write back that you won't support him either!

Absolutely agree but they have discovered that is not the majority stance,or, more to the point, most people do not vote so the left wields the power in these states and the politician will most always jump on that side.

The only problem is that other than NYC and a few other counties, pistol permits were pretty easy to get in NYS. The SC ruling was the worst thing to happen to gun owners in NYS. Guys who have been legally carrying for decades now can't. The court saw the loophole. They distinctly said that the state can't rule the entire island of Manhattan as a sensitive area, so the state just made 99% of it one.

I was rooting for the ruling to go the other way. I knew the state would respond the way they did. Now fees are higher, mandatory training that is expensive, social media becoming part of the process (membership on this forum could deny you. Who knows? Totally arbitrary), expiration dates for permits that will require new applications and fees every time you renew the permit. This "victory" is the worst thing to happen to gun owners since the NFA.

If you look at a USA map of the 2020 election, there were red states and there were blue states. NY was a blue state.

If you look at a map of the individual NY counties, it was MASSIVELY red, with tiny blue dots in Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and of course NY City.

Obviously, the welfare cities are predominately democrat, and in many cases have heavy population density. They always say that NYC is what drives the state.

HOWEVER, I have to say that WE are all responsible for what happens. If ALL the red people in the towns and villages got out and voted, WE could take back the state.

We have met the enemy and they are us.

When Andrew Cuomo won his second term, he only won 14 out of the 62 counties in NYS. But 9 of those 14 are the most densely populated counties, so the other 48 didn't matter. The residents of those 48 counties aren't represented by their governor, and you can be sure he doesn't even think to meet their needs since they didn't vote for him.

Just like the residents of Illinois didn't want FOID cards, but they got them anyway.

They can pass whatever they like. The tools I choose to protect my family and myself are my choice. No one else gets a vote.

I'll take my chances on the rare occasions I have to transit liberal crapholes.

First of all I admit to not being very good at deciphering legalspeak, and I did not read all 84 billion words of the new law.

However, it is my opinion that the highlighted portions above only apply to NEW applications. If you already have a NY permit you don't have to do anything else. Of course you can't use it anywhere.

The SAFE act required recertification every 5 years, and that is also detailed. It was (is?) without a new fee and could be done online. Sure, its a pita but its not all that hard to do.

I hope I'm right. Time will tell.
