RESPONSE Photos - Bolt and Disassembled

Took it apart this morning for inspection and lube before the first range trip (maybe later today). Very easy to disassemble. Pull two pins and receiver comes apart. Bolt comes out with charging handle. Bolt, firing pin, etc., come part with one pin. I can take more closeups if anyone is interested.

Here are some photos inside the upper. Could not get a good shot of where barrel joins frame because of the handguard. Do not have time to remove it right now. Can do that tomorrow. Not sure if these photos are helpful.

I will defer to the video link above. It's a better explanation than I can give quickly. The swap is very easy. Here's a picture of the single screw. It is accessible and easy to remove.

I do not have the means to accurately weigh these parts at home.

The buffer tube is approximately 7 inches long. I measured the tube from the inside.

The weight that goes inside the buffer spring is 5 inches long and solid. (You can see a little blood on the towel. I accidentally let the spring launch that weight into my finger. Ouch.)

I don't need a carbine to match my pistol, when there's no advantage, even size, to step down from my 5.56.

NCBeagle - thanks for your blood sacrifice and the time and effort you have invested answering questions.

The buffer is longer than a standard AR9 buffer, 3.25 inches is standard with 4 inches being used in many AR9s to shorten the bolt travel.

I believe that 7 inches is standard carbine length buffer tube.

Does the buffer have internal weights? You should be able to hear them or feel them moving if you shake the buffer. The internal weights help prevent bolt bounce.

Ryan, great pictures and info on this new gun from S&W, It looks like a keeper. The advantage and reason for having a carbine and a carry gun using the same ammunition is obvious. I always told my son it's not a project until you draw blood. Great project! LOL

I took it out again. As far as I can tell, that buffer is a solid piece of metal with a rubber bumper on the bottom.

Good looking carbine! 9mm is way cheaper to shoot that any rifle cartridge. For fooling around on typical short ranges, it'll do everything one might want to do. For serious social engagements, expect it will be more than equal to the task. Sincerely. bruce.

Bolt + buffer weight is 24.3 ounces. I got that from a user on another forum.

Buffer 9.2 ounces
Bolt 15.1 ounces.

Not a scientific scale.
