The Devastation of Helene in North Carolina

The role of FEMA, err….first word FEDERAL

About FEMA | FEMA.gov

"FEMA's mission is helping people before, during, and after disasters."

"FEMA's core values of compassion, fairness, integrity, and respect are at the heart of what the agency and its employees stand for and represent. These values form the solid foundation of who FEMA is, what the agency believes, and how it approaches serving the NATION".

Well if that's what you're supposed to do….jus saying'

Regarding FEMA and its mission, it is not an infinitely-manned agency. No agency can be.

But I'm sure that if its size were doubled or tripled to handle such catastrophes as are now evident from hurricanes, then critics would carp during better times that it is a bloated agency. And the yell would come: Cut its budget.

If the hurricane season and the tornado season and wildfire season are becoming bigger and wider, then perhaps it is time to expand FEMA by triple and up its budget and create a reserve fund beyond what it is now.

Or be more selective on what it uses it's funds for.

Like most government agencies, FEMA's funding is not a zero-sum amount. Spending for one program doesn't take away from the budget for another program. Of course, if you have information the rest of us don't -- perhaps you work for FEMA or DHS? -- please share it...or just tell us what led you to write the above post?

Maybe if they weren't spending taxpayer monies on illegals, they would have more to help American victims of disasters.

Also FEMA: sitting on "Billions" of unspent disaster funds from previous allocations that are unspent (Oct 2024)https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/untapped-relief-fema-is-sitting-on-billions-of-unused-disaster-funds/ar-AA1rSZTl

So, what's "disinformation" and what isn't?

Update: Finally heard from my uncle near Asheville. Their facility was evacuated on the 1st and they were lucky enough to have a friend that offered them a in-law apartment until their facility is back up. If not, they were going to have to live in a motel until new accommodations could be found. However, they were told that it may be at least 2 months before they get water back to the facility. The other residents were offered to be moved to other facilities miles away until repairs are done. It's still really bad up there but the people are jumping in and helping each other right and left.

I have a long-time forum friend from SC. We chat/text almost daily.

His church spent last week gathering/purchasing winter clothing and coats as cold weather is moving in.

He, his son and several church members loaded their vehicles and headed to Asheville this past Sunday morning to distribute them.

Good folks.
