The S&W 1006 usually fetches a premium price, I think one would be hard pressed to get one for less than $1000 today. There is also the hunt for magazines, which typically sell for not less than $100 each these days. It has become a very expensive pistol to own. Honestly, to scratch a 10mm itch, Glock, Springfield Armory, S&W, and a number of 1911 clone makers offer current production 10mm pistols at a fraction of the price of acquiring a 1006 plus a few magazines.

I picked up a 1006 several months back for $1000. They had it marked $1199 I think, but that store usually gives me a break off the marked price. I hadn't seen one that low in a long time. I gritted my teeth, but bought it because I doubt I will ever see it for that price again. Also, 1006 is my birthday, so been on my wish list a long time.

Iam thinking it is priced right around that...at 1100 or 1150 maybe...

Based on your other finds, I am assuming you are not specifically looking for 10mm, but rather nice older S&W of significant historical interest (at least to us crazies). So I say forget the 10mm Glock and 1911 variants. They will never have the value of a S&W 10xx.

As to price, assuming its in good condition, if you can get it for $1000, I would grab it quick, regardless of the magazine issue. Its probably the "most common" of the 6 variants of the 10xx with almost 27,000 1006 made compared to the 1076 wih roughly half that number (13,805 made) and next the 1066 (5067 made).

As to the mags, a single mag is an issue and the yellow follower is the early mag - the late mags with the white follower are more desirable. Figure mags $100 is a good deal - have seen go $150.

More mags or more rare model would increase the price, or condition and original box. And you could look on GB esp closed / sold auctions - they seem to be going for $1200 with 1 mag and no box to $1400 with 2 mags and original box.

About the only reason to pass on a 1006 is if you have an itch for an optic on your 10mm. As someone pointed out, Sig, FN, S&W, Glock and several others have more modern 10mm offerings.

The 1006 itself will outlive you even shooting stout loads with one magazine. Hefty, solid guns.

Two new ones not represented in my pile are the FN 510T and the G40 MOS.

Statistically impossible to regret a S&W Gen 3 purchase IMOHO!

The Model 1006 is a beast but that is one of its charms. It easily handles the original full power 10mm loads. I love mine. I was lucky and received 5 spare mags with mine. I was watching some ebay auctions just recently and excellent condition spare mags are now more like $160-$175 each. Ay carumba !

When I bought my gun I upgraded the mags with the new white followers and new Wolff springs. And added the curved back factory grip as I like that better than the flat type. Since no one has posted a pic yet here is mine next to a Springfield Armory M1911A1 .45 for size comparison. It's definitely not a gun to tuck into the waistband of your sweatpants when you go out for a carton of milk late at night.

Sounds like a gun to look for this day and age. Man $100 for a mag alone! Heard mags for the CS series are going for $50-60 lately.
