I've been after a 3" 64 for a long time. I've had a couple come by but the deals never came together. Last week I stumbled across one locally and couldn't say no. As we like to say I may have "paid too soon" but so far I'm happy. 64-3 with "AHD" serial number prefix.

At some time it looks like a prior owner tried to perhaps buff out scratches or something. It's especially blatant on the sideplate.

The action/timing/lock up is just fine, hope to hit the range on Sunday to run some rounds through. I love the way it feels in my hand, balances nicely. I don't enjoy shooting .357 mags in K frames so I searched for the 64. I'll follow up with a range report.

Nice pick up. Maybe you can hit it with some polish to try to get the scratches out

Is there an S & W logo on the left frame? It looks as though there was one on the sideplate...maybe the previous owner didn't want anyone to know it was a Smith ;).

Enjoy!

Good job! I have a 4" 64-3. Although nothing special, it is a good shooting Smith. 3 inchers are sought after as you well know. I recently picked up a 2" Model 10. Really like it so far. Enjoy your 64, and let us know how the range visit went! Bob

If you have access to a bead blaster, I'd go over the gun closely and take care of any other surface imperfections that might require some sanding. Then, I'd completely disassemble the gun and bead blast it with fine beads and low to moderate pressure. If you want a shiny finish, you can use Flitz or other similar pastes to polish it up. This should take care of your scratches. It's worked well for me, although I don't go for the shiny finishes.

Great pick-up! I really like the Md 64 for the fixed sights. They have an "all business" look to them that I find very appealing. Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks guys, well just got back from the range-woohoo! It's a bit of an ugly gun but it sure shoots well. The top pic shows the first 6 rounds at 7 yards, the second pic shows the next at 10 yards. Federal American Eagle 130gr fmj., put a total of 50 through it then another 20 of Gold Dot 135 +P.

I don't even think I'm going to mess with getting it bead blasted (never cared for polished stainless guns) and the action is really nice, just probably leave well enough alone.

Oh and I just ordered a holster from Lobo :D

Nice pickup! I had one and really enjoyed it. It shot as well as any of the 4" K-frames I've had over the years. I sold it to a forum member to help pay for a Model 17. If I could carry here in NJ, it would have been an absolute keeper.

I had a 4", it was a really spectacular example, came with original box, etc. including the original owner's receipt. It just never "spoke" to me.

A 3" has been on my radar and I couldn't say no to this one. Now having shot it I'm really happy I took a chance on it.

Great find, I got it's close cousin a few weeks ago, it's a AEP serial. It had rubber monos on it. They have great double trigger pulls!
Enjoy yours
Bty I polished mine. Looks great to me!

When I bought the gun pictured in post #8 it looked about the same as yours does now S&W Fan. I polished the stainless by hand with Flitz, it turned out pretty good without a lot of work.

I would be interested to hear how you like the Lobo holster when you get it. I have quite a few from Ray but none from the new Lobo owners.

Will do, I too had a couple from Ray. So far the communication has been great from the new folks.

I just received an enhanced pancake from the new Lobo for a 3" GP and in all honesty it's a better product that what I was getting from Ray. And I bought a dozen holsters from Ray! Better boning on the leather and the dye job was deeper and uniform. Great fit on the 3"" GP.
