Funny I don't notice the hole while I am shooting mine
Good luck and be safe
Ruggy
Don't you know, Ruggy that half the fun of owning this beast is safe fondling. (not "protected" fondling, but fondling it in ones safe). Here is one thing that turned me sour to the proliferation of modern day safeties and how stupid they can really be. Remember way back when you could have a SXS, external hammer coach gun for next to nothing or at the most, a song.
That and, the guns were actually nicely built for being at one time or another, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, and the Chinese got in on the act through the Norinco brand. I remember an early one that had a Greener crossbolt barrel latch and was an absolutely beautiful gun. Well as sales waned and regulations changed along with relative liabilities, Safeties came a calling enough to where you could not avoid them. Thank goodness there are a couple of firms now making original US/American made guns of our past as they were indeed made in the past. No safety on the original gun it was a copy of? Then no safety on the modern equivalent either.
So after the coach gun had been tossed about like a hot potatoe for years and the interest in SASS shooting was escalating at a fever pitch, one such example happened into my hands only because I wanted to shoot in a classification I'd not shot in before and a SXS was the required scattergun to use, non others need apply (stop, I seem to remember the 1887 lever action Winchester was also allowed, but.....)
So I got the 12 gauge in just enough time for the paperwork to clear and me to make it to my first stage. Now I'd popped off a few rounds at stationary targets just to get the feel and familiarize myself with the gun. Needless to say I got a few penalties for unsafe handling due to me cussing out that darn gun and shaking it sideways in an effort to get it to shoot. It was very safe as it couldn't be made to fire if my life depended upon it. Let's see...........
External hammers for one (easier to block than internal ones), Rebounding hammers to boot, Automatic tang safety, cross bolt safety. Hammer block safety. Firing pin safety. I know that I must be missing another half a dozen safeties, but that is a good start for sure. No gun will there be a conscience knowledge of the "safety" when firing the gun, that's obvious to be sure, but it also would not be apparent if it wasn't there in the first darn place.
After all, what ever happened to the ten rules of firearms safety and the biggest of all, keep the muzzle of the gun pointed in a safe and harmless direction. All other rules could be violated and still have a good outcome if that first, main rule was followed.
After all, some folk happen to like pink plastic pocket autos, right? Well some must since they sell a bunch of them, only they don't sell pink guns to me and I'd like to keep it that way thank you very much. Smithy.
