I've never had this happen before. I pulled my 8 3/8" older model 500 out to shoot yesterday and when opening the cylinder, I observed the yoke was loose. I figured correctly that the yoke screw was loose, so I tightened it back. Yoke and cylinder were still loose. Undid the screw all the way and observed the spring and the little plunger were missing. Both are wedged in the bottom of the recess the yoke goes into, and all efforts to dislodge them have failed. I've already ordered another whole assembly, and I would hate to have to ship back to S&W for something like this. Any experience would be appreciated.
Thanks

Some drops of Ballistol and a couple of blasts of air from can of aerosol Ultra Duster?

Got in there with a bright light and a dental pick today. Can move it but the little spring is caught on something. If I don't get it by Monday, it's off to S&W. Geez.

Get a round toothpick and try sticking it into the spring far enough to get it stuck on the toothpick, then pull it out with the gun inverted to let gravity help. ;)

Or, get a Dental Pick and try that. I have a couple and they come in handy and being stainless, are rather tough and don't bend or break very easily.

I took it to the LGS, there's a guy there who is probably the last person in this area who will work on revolvers. He explained to me that the little spring on the plunger had become entangled in the trigger return screw. He ended up taking the side plate off to get to it. Me, I thought that recess just ended where the yoke went. I learned something.
Thanks.

Great....can you elaborate? Interested in how you were able to get it repaired.
