586-7 questions

I recently picked up a 586-7 ser#CHMxxx, 6" barrel, 7 shot cylinder. Looks almost brand new. I have a couple of questions.

Anyone know when it was made? I googled it and And didn't find too much info. Possibility of it being a special run for sports authority. Not sure if that correct.

Unfortunately it did not have the box with it. What is the correct box that it came with?

And any one know the catalog # for this revolver.

And appox value? I paid $425 out the door and to be honest I think I stole it.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

They were made in '04.I believe it was 3000 in 4" and 3000 in 6".Packaged in the blue plastic box.

I have one and told by someone that mine was a leftover from a big sporting goods chain. The Product code looks like 163567.
I bought mine new and had it mooncliped and worked over for ICORE matches. Back then it was rare to see a blue 7 shot 586 on the firing line.
They also made a run of 4"ers too.

So, is this a shooter or a collectible? At this point there is not a blemish on it and could pass for new. And for what I paid I wouldn't mind letting it sit in the safe. I can always look for a used 686+ to squash my 7 shot lust.

I'd say it was a shooter.They sold for about $600 new.

Mehutch that's one great looking 586 the Ahrends grips really set it off. I have Ahrends tactical finger groove made of Caribbean Rosewood on mine 586-4 6"

Yes Maple. It is a little bit too smooth in the hand, its a light density wood (38, hard Maple is 44). Very nice looking but not a back country grip to carry. I am ordering a Retro Target Stock with oil finished in Moradillo wood (52 density) for my other S&W 686-4 6". Ahrends said, "Cocobolo is no longer available. CITES has placed it on the restricted list as an endangered species. We don’t want to have a Gibson Guitar moment." Interesting...! (Cocobolo is 68 density)

Below is my S&W 686-4 in 2.5 inch with Moradillo wood. It is a better grip and feels harder (52 density), source - Bolivia, Texture: Fine to Coarse, also known as: Bolivian Rosewood.
