I don't remember the model number of the first one, the one built for the French. But could someone post a picture of the way the cartridges were held in the chamber?

It worked flawlessly on the two 547s I had. Well, except for the Wolf ammo with the green lacquer in the casing, that was a little sticky.
Years ago I had a 940. I had a problem with cartridges sticking. I could get two reloads fairly comfortably, but after that it was pretty hard to get subsequent reloads to seat. At the range I would use a nylon bore brush every third reload and clean the cylinder to keep the cartridges fron sticking.
I don't know if this was a problem because it was an early model. I think I got it in 1992.
Since that bad experience I've been leary of 9mm revolvers. Too bad since I think it is a great concept if it works properly. Reloads with full moon clips are fast and are smaller than a loaded speedloader. A full 5 shot full moon clip is about the size of a walnut.
The case sticking may be because the 9mm is a pretty high pressure cartridge and the case is tapered. No one seems to have problems with the .45 auto. I wonder how well .40 S&W works in a revolver. I'd love to see smaller revolvers just designed for the .40 and not made larger so they can handle 10mm also.

I have several 547s. At least two of them came from Israel. I would be interested to know how they got there. Also have a 940.
The wire extractors to which you refer are on the Ruger. I read a thread on the mechanism and will do a search to try to find it again.

Model 547s at least the one I have are flawless, deadly accuate & don't have problems ejecting spent cases..
My first 940 had very rough chambers & was the culprit with sticking cases, I had it reamed to 38 Super & the problem all but went away except for WWB ammo? My second 940 I have honed the cylinders with Brownells Flex Hones that smooth the chamber & leave a cross hatched surface like a pistons bore in an engine..
BTW These hones have been around to several 940 owners, There actualy 38/357 Hones & have been used on about a half dozen or so 940s..

The 547 you have I'm guessing has been hardchromed & has a 4" barrel with a Round Butt Frame?? Correct??
I've heard Isreal or France before on these..
How do you know the two 547s came from Isreal??

I know they came from Israel as the owner of the gun shop from which I purchased them went on a buying trip to Israel and came back with a dozen or so, along with a number of FALs. This was in the 1980s. I read that the 547 was developed for the French, so maybe they were passed on to the Israelis at some point.
Yes, the one in the photo has a 4" barrel and round butt. At some point, the butt was ground round in a rather crude manner. It took a lot of filing and sanding to smooth it up and make it look somewhat respectable.

That's odd. I read that Israel commissioned the 547 from S&W for their police force. S&W made around 10k for them, but after the first shipment the Israelis canceled and opted for another make of 9mm revolver and that is when the 547 was made available to the US. Made between '80-'85, but in 1990 a 547-M was announced, but production was canceled.
French? I have not heard this. Somebody out there educate me if any of the info I provided is wrong and when the French came into the picture.
