Gentlemen,
Looking to carry my 2 1/2" 19-5 and am interested in a solid, tight, pancake type holster for when I choose to do so. The 1911's I usually carry are all carried in that style of holster so I don't want to deviate from that style. Mitch Rosen is what I usually use, but Kramer also makes a good looking one which also might suit the purpose. I'm interested in your views from you guys who carry the 2 1/2" 19's on a regular basis. I've tried Galco, but found that they weren't fitted tight enough for good retention. A good snug fit is needed without going overboard. Thank you for your time! Jim.

I really like my Kramer, but they take longer than the 6 to 8 weeks they state to produce it in my experience.

My 2.5" 66 rides in a Kramer MSP holster. I find this package comfortable and the revolver is very secure. I liked it so much I bought another for my N Frame 3 inch guns too.

Lobo gun leather will make you one to fit, and it fits well. Look up their website. Ray is aember on the forum and doews great work and quick turn around time for a reasonable price. I have one for my 2 1/2" 19-4, and it carries great. I'm traveling now and don't have those pictures on my laptop, and can't seem tofigure out how to post pictures from photobucket with the laptop. I have no problem from my desktop.

Plus, Ray from Lobo is in CO as it appears you are too. Never hurts to support your neighbor. Just bought my first one from him (for a 3" J frame) and am satisfied.

Davef1,
I checked Kramers site and didn't see the MSP model. Which model does that refer to? I was thinking along the belt scabbard line. Did you get yours in cowhide or horsehide? I have a belt scabbard in horsehide for a SIG 220 and it is very solid to say the least. Thanks for your help!

I also like the Simply Rugged pancakes and have them for my Ruger Alaskan and LCR. I have a Hays Holsters pancake for my 3" SP-101 and it is good looking and works well. Hays shipped it in less than a week.

YES! Best holster for the money! Good guy too!

Look no further than the Lobo Gun Leather Enhanced pancake. They're the most comfortable, concealment holsters I've ever used in 40+ years of concealed carry.

Gets my vote too. Just order another one from Ray

Got to agree with xtrooper. Lobos enhanced pancake is the most comfortable holster I've worn with my m19. It conceals as well as can be done with a k frame revolver and retention is just fine. I doubt you will regret a lobo holster.

Both mine are Horsehide in Black. The wait is a bit long but I really like the workmanship and style of this one.

LOBO made me this fancied up improved pancake model for my 19-5. I carry it quite often and it is top notch! Like others have said he's a great guy to deal with and turn around time is quite short.

Another fan of Lobo.

638 Model 1 Pancake add Detail Boned & Inner Hammer Shield
310 Night Guard Enhanced Pancake Comes Detail Boned add Inner Hammer Shield.
625 3" Model 1 Pancake add Detail Boned & Inner Hammer Shield.
64 HB 4" Enhanced Pancake Comes Detail Boned add Inner Hammer Shield.
610 4" Enhanced Pancake Comes Detail Boned add Inner Hammer Shield.

I still need another Pancake for my 4" 617.

Rays back log is normally 4 or 5 weeks.
I normally e-mail him my requirements (Right Hand, 1.5" Belt, Tan Finish, etc) and the exact description of my gun, to get on the production list, then mail him a check. He does not do plastic.
I have been happy with 5 out of 5 so far, and plan to order more from Lobo.
The price should be around $60 for one as described above. A pretty good bargain for a quality custom leather holster made in the USA.

Note: As seen above Ray has 2 models of pancake holsters. The main difference is the Model 1 has conventional Belt Slots, while the Enhanced has Belt Tunnels. As I have and wear both styles regularly my observation is this. The Enhanced probably looks a little better to most. The Model 1 is handier to get on and off your belt. If you thread your holster on in the morning, and wear it all day the Enhanced is great. If however you might need to take the holster off at some point, and possibly put it back on. The Model 1 would probably be a little handier.

I will probably get my Pancake on order for my 617 shortly. I will probably go with another Model 1.

A note on fit: I have a 4" K Frame holster for my 64 Heavy Barrel. It is a perfect fit. The Full Underlug 617 4" K Frame will not fit in it. Each holster is well fitted to the gun you order it for. This is why it is important to get the information on your gun detailed out for a perfect fit.

Good Luck with your choice.

KRAMER OWB SCABBARD IN HORSEHIDE. Pricey............ but the best damned holster I've ever owned for my M60 and my Model 65

I know the OP stated that he had tried Galco and was less than satisfied, and I too do not believe that Galco is exactly the top of the heap. However, since I recently put away the 1911s and dusted off the revolvers for daily carry, I have been utilizing the Galco Combat Master exclusively to carry my S&W snubs. I have one for a J, one for a K, and one for a N, all in the 2 1/2" variety. The primary reasons I went with Galco was due to instantaneous availability, decent (although not premium) quality, and reasonable price (if you buy online (Amazon) as MSRP are a little absurd).

BobR1,
Thanks for all your information! I have checked out Ray's site and am impressed with what i've seen. Two questions for you. I noticed that you did not have any of your holsters lined, just not needed or are the guns gripped firmly enough for retention without it? You mentioned a hammer shield, could you explain your need and does it impeed the draw in any way. I didn't notice one on any of the pictures the other fellows have shown. Thanks for all the information and am looking foreward to your replys to my questions.
Thanks to all the members who showed their holsters!! It certainly helps!! I will be ordering one for my 2 1/2" 19 once I have a few more questions sorted out. Jim.

I have one of Ray's holsters I got from a member here. It's a full flap holster. It's lined with a buttery soft leather. Nice construction and quality materials.

For the money, I don't think you're gonna find a better fitted and finished holster.

My future holster needs will be met by Lobo.

Back in the day (1970's) I bought Bianchi holsters, and got almost every one lined. I have picked up some used ones over the years that were not lined. I decided that a lined holster was not a have to have option, especially with SS guns.
With your Blued 19, a lined holster might not be a bad addition. I would e-mail Ray and ask for his opinion.

The Inner Hammer Shield Option:

It is an extension of the holster on the body side that extends up to the approximate top of the hammer.
It has multiple functions.
When you wear your shirt tunked in with a cover garment like a jackshirt, windbreaker, etc it keeps the shirt from getting tucked in the holster along with the gun when reholstering.
It will do the same thing with your Tee Shirt with an untucked outer shirt.
Next it will help to keep oil and carbon off your shirt from contact with your handgun.
Last it will put a layer of leather between sweat and the gun protecting the gun a little better.

For $5 it is a good addition to your carry holster.

Enhanced Pancake vs Model 1 Pancake:
The Model 1 is a conventional Pancake with belt slots in the wings for your belt. Taking the holster off you take the belt out of the belt loops infront of the holster. Unthread it from the front holster slot, then pull the holster back and remove the belt from the belt loop behind the holster. Then slide the holster off the belt.

With the Enhanced Pancake you have Belt Tunnels. This holster does look sharp. When removing this holster I slide the holster back and forth as I pull the belt out of the belt loops and belt tunnels on the holster from the off side. After I worked this method out, getting the holster off the belt was not a big issue, just different than getting a belt slot holster off.

The Model 1 is handier if you are shooting a match with multiple revolvers, where you change holsters several times during the day.

Barrel Length: I have found that I can carry up to a 3" barrel revolver in the Lobo Pancake carried at 4 O'Clock and still get my billfold out of my right back pocket with no problem. When I carry my 4" 610 or 64 I have found that I need to carry my billfold in a different pocket. Another option would be carrying a 4" at 3 O'Clock, and going for your billfold by lifting your cover garment up at your billfold location, instead of sweeping your cover garment open in the case of a jackshirt.

I just made a run to town. I am carrying my Smith & Wesson 310 Night Guard in the Lobo Enhanced Pancake with a tucked in Tee Shirt, and an untucked Woolrich Elite 4 Pocket Discrete Carry shirt over it. I am carrying the 310 at 4 O'Clock strong side. I have 1 spare reload in a California Competition Moon Clip Carrier infront of the holster. For a light jacket I took along my Carhartt Jackshirt which has a nice long tail in Moss Green. Just in case I needed a jacket, which I did not.

I hope this information was of some help.

Simply Rugged Sourdough... I am using one IWB with an N-frame right now, I think... let me check... yep. It is so comfortable I can easily forget I am wearing it.

Another +1 for Lobo. Just received a pancake for my 4+ 686 and it is PERFECT. Immediately ordered one for another revolver(3" SP101) and a dump pouch.

If you can find one, get an original Roy Baker Pancake. That's the one that started the pancake holster fad.

Looks like I will need to order 2 holsters from Lobo shortly. I was still wanting one for my 4" 617.
I did a little swapping today, and I now have a 66 No Dash 2-1/2" RB that needs leather. I may have to train this 66 for belt carry. Looking at the overall condition and factory grips. It has never been carried in a holster. I will break it in shortly.
