Rusty-gun.jpg

I don't think this one will clean up so well?

Is that a totally rusted gun or beef jerky?

Once, when I still lived in Tulsa, I was out late one night riding my crotch rocket, & I happened to run across a circus(I don't know which one)that was unloading a bunch of elephants & moving them to the circus site from the rail head. I was on the opposite side of the road from them, & I parked the bike & shut it off. I didn't want to spook them or bother them, so I sat there while the whole herd made it's way past me. It was so quiet I could here the scuffing of their feet as they marched past me, & it was an impressive sight. The last trainer(or maybe mahout?)tipped his hat in my direction as he passed;I guess to show his appreciation for shutting the bike down. I waited till they were long gone before starting the bike & taking off. That was at least fourteen years ago, & I (obviously!)have never forgotten the experience.

So it's the last day of deer season in PA, I have an unfilled buck and doe and Mrs. Raljr1 says, "You can't go hunting today, there's too much to do around here!" (Cue appropriate sneer in voice.) So on this beautiful fall day, here's the only deer I got to see.

Robert, hopefully some nearsighted hunter won't blow away your days work!

It's Beer Time!

I tell you this diet is getting old. I've gone two weeks with no beer! So today I brought in a crack crew to do the tasting:

Cheers!

I remember that picture.

It was in the very early 70's. We went to see them and they did not disappoint. Curly did one of his full court hook shots and missed. He scowled and they threw him another ball and this time he swished it.:) His dribbling was unbelievable. The half time shows were great too. Two ping pong players had about a dozen balls flying back and forth and I think it was Charlie Charles with the bicycle act that was great but just about every kid nowadays could top, but he did have that little bicycle with silver dollars for wheels that he rode. Fun times.

Read a book by.....

Read a book by Grigori Rasputin's daughter, Maria. What can the daughter of a mad monk do for a living? There's not many calls for them in the want ads. Well, for a while she was a lion trainer.

She got mauled by a bear, but stayed with the tour. She was a riveter during WWII and worked in defense plants until she had to retire in 1955 (year I was born). She worked in hospitals, taught Russian and did babysitting to support herself. She tried her hand at being a psychic, but nobody took her seriously. She lived on SS in Los Angeles until she died in 1977. There are some of Rasputin's great grandchildren around today. The books Maria wrote about her father are opposite to what history tells. The part about his sex life is probably accurate. I don't believe the mystic stuff be he was one of those people that are loaded with spiritual power and faith. I'll bet the truth is somewhere in between but I believe that he was neither evil nor mad.

I think a similar analogy would be if a backwoods faith healer seemed to have too great of an influence in the US government.

Interesting little story. She was a dinner guest of the Tsarina and family, which included daughters about her age and was wondering why every time she put her fork on her plate it was all whisked away. She learned that etiquette required that you place your utensils on small crystal rack and when finished and you put them on the plate, they are taken away. I've been to Chinese restaurants like that.:D

The big cat photos reminded me of one of my all-time favorite "Far Side" cartoons. A ring of huge cats are sitting on stools around a circus ring, while the lion tamer postures in the center, cracking a whip and firing a revolver.

The lion in the foreground turns to the cat next to him and says, "He's using blanks--pass it on." :D
