Snubby, when I first moved to OKC, I was looking for a house to rent. I didn't know what areas I needed to stay away from, & consequently poked around in some pretty bad neighborhoods. The worst one I looked at, I was passed at high speed by a county sheriff & two OKC police cars, obviously in a hurry to get somewhere fast. I found the street I was looking for & turned down the street. I was traveling slow, because I was looking for the address of a rent house. A whole pack of kids ran out in front of me, & I had to lock up the brakes to keep from mowing them down. There was a group of "adults" chatting in a front yard, & when they heard my tires screech, they looked at me, then at the kids, and then went right back to their conversation. I found then quickest way I could out of that place & went back to my hotel. The next week I lucked out & found a nice little house five minutes from my job & I stayed there almost fifteen years. I'll never forget the look on my managers face when he asked me where all I had been looking, & when I told him, he just said "No man...No!"

Big K, I don't know how you do it. I mean sampling all the different brews. I'll read your reviews, & think Hey! I like beer! HEB has quite a selection...I'll just pick one up every now & then & check it out. I guess I better stay out of a proper liquor store, because just the selections offered at HEB are enough to throw me into quite a quandary...

Brad, my undoing is your doing.

I have spent my life expanding my repertoire. I could recall thousands of songs and passages and play them from memory.

Depending on my mood I could summon a song from my synaptic archives to fit that mood.

No more!

A Trojan earworm has been imbeded in my ROM drive.

Every attempt to circumvent or remove said file only causes it to be opened and played.

I am doomed.

Thank you Mr. Trololo!

Oh, you poor, poor man!

That's an even worse ear worm than the bad renditions of "Getting To Know You" being used in a stupid TV commercial these days. God help me, I can remember the lyrics of that awful, sappy number! And the choreography!

But not, thank heaven, "Mr. Trololo".

Surely you've suffered enough without that.

It took years of practice. :D

When in graduate business school back in the 1980s, we were told to pick an industry and follow it. That way when you were assigned a project where you picked the business to report on you would have a leg up. I chose brewing and beer, because it was something I enjoyed. Back then it was a mature declining business.

Now the brewing/beer business is in transition. There is a renaissance underway with a new appreciation of beers taking hold. It is similar to what went on with wine appreciation in the 1960s and 1970s.

I'm only now learning what the various beer styles and types refer to. After sampling many different beers of specific styles I'm learning what style of beer I personally like. Most people identify the beer they like with the brand name instead of the style. Image and advertising is still a big part of the beer business. I'm willing to try new things and am always on the lookout for bargains.

Over the years I quit drinking spirits and wine. I used to love scotch, margaritas, and champagne. Beer is my drink of choice these days, and I like having fun with it.

Good evening fellow members of the drift, hope everyone had a good Monday! News here reports that the light up shoes you see little kids wearing are potential fire hazards. Local family car appears to have burned after one of the shoes shorted and caused the shoe to start the fire. No definitive decision yet. I use flash lights a lot and some of the more powerful ones can really get hot if left on. Drift on,don't worry be happy.

Had a fantastic day traveling through the Great Smokey Mountains! Seen quite a bit of wildlife including several black bear, turkey were in quite an abundance. I was quite amazed at the bear though and how close stupid people can think they can get to take pictures! But it was a great day ending with a fantastic dinner at Calhouns Rib House! ;)
So far I'm liking the great state of Tennessee but I'm still not volunteering! :D

Back off the beach of Okinawa on the USS Yolo this date 1945:

May 9, 1945

Awoke this morning feeling completely refreshed. The sun was bright and the day perfect. Between alerts and interruptions I worked on the April action report. Lunch was excellent with rare steak, apple pie and cheese. The men on board live like kings while the Marines and Army ashore have their "K" rations. The Marines plead for food but our orders now are specific. No meals can be served to the Army and Marines on the beach. This is a real change. They see how the Navy men eat, and feel there is no justification for it. Any kind of trade could be made for food; Jeeps, weapons and whisky are available for barter.

Outside of the beached amphibians Yolo is the next closest ship to shore. Our anchorage was assigned us permanently. We may ask ships occupying a portion of it to move. Sometimes, when away for fueling or provisioning, ships anchor in our spot. Returning, we drop the anchor and make a 360 degree circle. Ships in the scope of the chain are asked to move.

The weather is good; indeed, it is a perfect spring night. A terrific bombardment began this evening. At 2100 the call to GQ came with radar reporting a bogey at 12 miles. The area cleared out by 2155; many contacts were picked up at 40 miles. This night two destroyer escorts, the England (DE 635) and the Oberrender (DE 344), were hit by suiciders with 43 dead and 80 wounded. Yontan was again bombed. Six enemy were downed. Hecklers remained in the area until 2200. As the hours pass at GQ, the men's eyes become heavy and sleep overtakes some. Even though the ship is covered by smoke the men are apprehensive about a bogey until it disappears.

No, I haven't tried anything like that...might even make a difference in my attitude, too!:D I was taking a shot of Nyquil;with my allergies, I've always got something going on to where I could justify it, but it didn't seem to help. I even tried Zequil, or whatever it's called, no help either.

Southern Comfort? Hmmmmm...I used to love that stuff "back in the day". Got myself into some interesting situations with that stuff! But, now that I'm more mature(supposedly!)maybe I could handle it better. It's worth a try.
Luckily I'm relatively healthy and currently take no medications and I've found that taking 10miligrams of melatonin works pretty good as a sleep aid.
