Buongiorno ya'all. A sunny 69 degrees here in Greenville, at the end of my first neighborhood sweep for Rhea.

I enlisted my visiting son's dog in the mission, since I'm not a hunter (except for Pizzeria) or tracker. I found no sign of the dreaded Rhea, though it seemed my canine partner was even less adept at the search than I am. She did her best, but perhaps Shih Tzu are just not genetically predisposed for Rhea tracking.

Good morning drifters. It's 85 in the desert this morning with some clouds and a little rain in the Phoenix area, nothing out here. Calling for more in town so maybe we'll get some this afternoon but I doubt it.

Had a couple of pieces of cinnamon and brown sugar toast with jelly for breakfast and of course now enjoying my morning coffee. Hope everyone has a good Thursday.

Sigh, slept in this morning until 0600. Need to get the printer back in travel position, toss stuff in the trunk and get Timmber Wolf the Wonder Coach ready for an early departure.
Found a selfie stick, I may commit photography.
Need to find some earplugs, marriage relation wants to sight in a new rifle, I can at least help with the paper work and security.
Now where did I put <List deleted IAW limits on posts>

Who knows journey of a thousand miles begins with first step...and I'm 5000 miles down the Interstates already!

Ya'know BCC, between your schedule and snubbyfan's workout routine, I'm exhausted. ;)
I'm scheduling an extra nap today.
In about half an hour, we're headed to the Y. Spin class, lifting, etc.
Seems to be working. After yesterdays second hike with my wife, I weighed myself and I've lost 19 pounds so far. I'm 11 pounds away from getting back to my preneuropathy weight of 170 pounds.
Still, I'm thinking of saying "screw it" tomorrow and going to the range.
I still haven't shot that .22 Target Pathfinder my sister got me for Christmas.
One day off ain't gonna hurt nothin'.

OH I'm So Freaking Mad!

Grandson has been planning on going to see his so called mother for a month. He was going to spend the 4th with her. So he just called his other Grandmother to make arrangements for tomorrow's transfer. We have to drive him an hour to meet grandperson (she don't do anything with or for him either) so I'll refer to her as grandperson! And she has to take him the other hour and half. Because his so called mother is under house arrest and on bond for her 3rd DUI and a bunch of other drug charges, including probation violations.

So he calls his grandperson and during the conversation, I hear him kind'a get quite and just kept saying OK, OK, Love you too. Conversation over.

So I asked what time we're meeting grandperson. He said I'm not going. He gets done this way all the time. And I said that's OK, we're all going to a King's Island next week on vacation and that trip is for your early birthday present at the end of July.

So I could tell he was bummed out about so called mother. So I gently asked what's the matter? He said she got arrested Tuesday. I didn't act interested, but was dieing to know. Then he said her probation lady came to the house for a random probation check and the house smelled like pot. And arrested her and another girl, that was there.

All I said was, I hope she's OK and gets some help! I never talk bad about her to him. But I hate her guts! And she knows I hate her, but I have to keep it civil for his sake. I get into it with her about every 3 months.

She's on something like 4 years probation already, not counting the latest drug related DUI that she hasn't went to court on yet. I think she goes in August for that one? And hope no one bails her out, if they even can bail her out this time.

I hope they throw the book at her!

So I hear him call Wifey at work a few minutes later and I could hear it in his voice, he was about to cry. And told her. I know he loves his mother. I want him to always Love his so called mother.

But such a sweet child has to deal with this stuff. NO, child should have to hear or deal with this stuff about their so called mother! My mother never got arrested! My children's mother never got arrested! Hell, wifey has only had one ticket in her life! Hell, I've only had 3 in 44 years of driving. I know stuff happens, but come on. His so called mothers rap sheet is 6 pages long, before this last stuff! And she's just 34. I've seen her rap sheet on the Internet!

Thank GOD he wasn't already up there when she got arrested!

And I guess that's why GOD put him in our lives, when she abandoned him when he was just 1 1/2 years old. I never thought @ 60 1/2 years old, I would be raising a almost 14 year old child. But, I thank GOD everyday for allowing him and his Dog (his birthday present 3 years ago) in our lives! And I'd guess he's the reason GOD kept me here after the motor cycle wreck. To take care of him! And OH Boy I do! I spoil him to the Earth's end. And I'm determined to live long enough to see him go to College!

Our Baby's, So Called Mother Rant Over! I just needed to get it off my chest. And know that allot of you are parents and grandparents. And would understand my frustration?

Thanks For Understanding!

When I was a teen I'd go crabbing and take my catch to my grandmother. She'd make okra and tomatoes, mix in lump Blue Crab meat, serve it over rice, and have cornbread on the side. I'd eat until I was one bite away from exploding. :D

It's OK if you do not like okra, that leaves more for me. :)

I love me a mess of fried okra, but hated picking the stuff.

Grandma would make up some drop biscuits with squirrel gravy, and the okra would be fried in bacon grease. No wonder Grampa had heart problems!

It seems the drift denizens north of the Mason-Dixon are not enamored of Okra. I'm inclined to agree, so far, but haven't thrown in the towel yet. When in Rome ...
Don't know about squirrel gravy but my husband had squirrel stew on his menu, before I came along, though bushy tailed rat is verboten at my table.
A local woman put some Red-eye Gravy on my grits. It's bacon fat, coffee, salt, and pepper. It tasted like a shortcut to heart problems.

Beware I am listening to talk radio again this morning so I may be subject to drifting rants!

Never a good idea. Talk radio is a pestilence, including the sports kind with grown men arguing endlessly about what six-foot-eight seventh-grade basketball player is a lock for the NBA.

As for okra, frying it with a light cornmeal breading till it's brown and crisp makes it nutty and sweet. Stewed with tomatoes--I use canned diced tomatoes with green chilis, a little white wine, minced shallot and a dash of Worcestershire sauce--it's very tasty and not at all slimy.

It's hugely popular in much Indian and African cooking, In fact, the word "gumbo" is derived from one of the African names for it, "quimbombo" (as rendered in Spanish in the Caribbean).
