Big rifle shooters, I have a question

i would doubt if any of the pro hunters in africa would want to guide clients using electric or any other kind of gizmo sights. big stuff you shoot with low power scopes of excellent quality or open sights. preferably both on the rifle being used. this is not the place for problems of any kind and the big animals have no sense of humor about being shot at.

True, or at least in some countries. I used a 1x4 Leopold on a .375 H&H Remington 700 classic. Had no trouble picking up the target on 1x. I was more worried about the stock, which wasn't pinned, cracking than damaging the scope. The rifle came with iron sights which I left on even though they were not very user friendly and I mounted the scope in Leopold's quick release rings. I traded the 1x4 for a 3x9 when we took the buffalo and switched to plains game.

There is a PH, Ivan Carter, on TV that has mounted some type of electronic sight on his big double gun. You might try going to his web site.

I used a Leupold 1x4 on my Super Grade pre 64 Mod 70 Winchester. Quick acquisition, very clear and no issues.

Thanks, you guys - for the input on sights. For the rest of you, I know it is more fun to talk about rifles than aiming devices. I DO understand. :D

My friend Steve decided he was going to try to cover all bases, for now, and took a "Cadillac approach" to the problem. (Well, sort of. He prefers to buy American so there will be no Swarovskis or Schmidt-Benders.) He thinks he likes the idea of the red dot sight, but to cover himself he intends to take two sights - a tube-type Aimpoint model designed to be mounted on long-action rifles AND a low-power Leupold variable. He intends to mount both in Talley quick detachable rings so he can exchange them in the field if need should arise. Since he has plenty of time to shoot with both, he should know which one he prefers before he leaves on his trip - and whether the Aimpoint was a waste of his money or not. We shall see. :)

What gun is he putting it on??
