Bought my first Ruger -- a 10/22

Good for you and hope you enjoy it. Had the Sporter years back and fed all ammo without a hitch. Bought a R/A last year in 22 magnum with the 18 inch tube and it is very accurate. Quite a good price you paid. I recall when they came out back around 64 the price was $56 according to my very old Digest.

Got my first one back in 1968. . .great gun! With the exception of the Ruger Number 1, it's the only Ruger I would advise anybody to purchase. Amazing how a company can manage to produce two of the greatest guns ever manufactured and fail on everything else.

!!!Are you serious ??? We are talking about Sturm-Ruger products here now,...right ???

Sadly for me, I have been plodding along for many years; with no Ruger firearm failure ever, thinking I was getting an American made product, at a price that belies it's useful value.

Thats a great price on a classic 22 that is probably THE most successful 22 ever made.
Got my first one in 1976 with bicentennial rollstamp and aluminum buttplate, Second one was purchased in 1980's as a backup.
Had a SS one a while back but sold it too cheap not needing 3.

While I dont hunt so recently passed on a nice No 1 in 44-70 another great Ruger IMO is the .44 Mag Carbine which is basicly a Ruger 10-22 on STEROIDS ! Or the Deerfield Carbine which is more like a Mini 30 in 44 Magnum (Wonder why Ruger doesnt offer this gun now in SS ???)

A few years back wanted something a little different but similar which led to a wood and blue Ruger 77-22 bolt action with a Weaver 4X scope,
These share 10-22 mags and look slightly fancier.

In Ruger handguns its hard to beat the Vaquero in 357 Mag or 44 .

At one time I had a half-dozen 10/22's, but figured that was silly one day when I reached into the safe and couldn't decide which one to shoot. Sold all but one at that point. The one I kept was a 2006 "Wally-World Special" with a 22" SS barrel. I think I paid $209...219.00...something like that for it.

I think I'm the last person in the world who hasn't done, and doesn't want to do anything to a 10/22. Ok, I'm a bit of a liar, I have had a trigger job done on it, and it's got a scope and a sling added, but it's basically stock out of the box.

It is a squirrel killing machine.

I recently overhauled my 30 year old 10/22 'Possum Slayer. I'm pretty sure the only thing original on it now is the receiver and the trigger housing, but it was certainly great fun tinkering with it to get it to the point of being a stealthy tack driver.

I would laugh at my buddies who have them tricked out. New fluted barrels, stocks, scopes. Now I had one for decades just never thought of doing anything with it but shoot it.

I'm down to two 10/22s right now. I've always had at least one around since the '70s. I have a crown royal bag full of 10 round mags that I load at home and just switch mags when in the field, no wasted time. :)

Yep, I'm down to only three 10/22's :(

A standard blued/wood, a SS composite, and a 50th year anniversary model with dual heels, peep/front blade, and scope rail - it's SS and black comp.

I always hear about all these triggers and stuff...I just don't get it. Why bother modifying a gun that shoots better than you can see. A couple inch group at 50 yards. All. Day. Long.

First mod made to my Compact was to add a recoil buffer. Then a cheapo red dot and the bx trigger. Have the butler creek steel lips 25 round mags but prefer the ruger bx-25 ones. After all this, no longer an inexpensive plinker but it is a sweet shooter.

Bought my first in the 70s. It was used and so accurate a friends Dad paid me more then a new ones price.

Finally replaced it this spring, added the Ruger 25 rd mag. Dicks had them on sale at 199 and a big tub of Rem ammo cheap.

I went backnand bought one for my oldest grandsons HS graduation present. They were out of the big tubs of ammo, I gave him a brick of stuff I had. Told him to keep the ammo hid from his Dad as he shot up most bricks I brought home. Down right crime shooti g up those 8 or 9 dolla bricks.....

My 10/22 was my first firearm. I think I got it in 1974. I would rate it a 10 out of 10 for fun. I have another I got a custom barrel for. One thing people don't write too much about is that when you use a custom barrel you many times are limited on what kind of ammo you can use. With ammo being so hard to find I'm sticking to factory barrels as a first choice.

For new owners of stock guns you can do a few mods to make it better without spending a lot of money.
1. Modify the bolt catch with some file work, it allows you to pull back on the charging handle to release it when the bolt is locked back. If you don't want ti file the original a after market one costs about 10.00.
You can do a net search to find the instructions on how to DIY.

2. A bolt buffer pin is a nice addition.

3 Cheap red dot adds lots of fun.

4. Factory 10, 15 or 25 round magazines are my choice. I have tried about 5 different types of greater than 10rd magazines over the years, sometimes some lots of the after market mags don't work like they should. I have never had a problem with the new Ruger 25rd mag and they are easy to load.

Be sure to blue loctite the scope base screws.

Absolutely a great rifle. The fact that it remains relatively unchanged for many decades is a testament to its reliability. Anyone will manufacture a lemon on occasion but my experience with Ruger has been great. They take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. Yes, they don't like aftermarket mags. Stick with the Ruger brand. I own another model Ruger that also has stood the test of time, the brass shucking sewing machine known as the mini 14.

I just picked up the takedown model stainless on a whim. Was visiting my LGS who is closing and there it was calling me over.

It's great fun to shoot, easy on the ears which has become very important to me with my tinnitus.

I'm adding a couple BX-15 magazines this week. NJ limit. Call me crazy but I always buy manufacturer magazines and never have any problems.

Just bought my first Ruger 10-22 last week at Scheels. It is a WMR that I paid a bit more than 200 bucks for. It is new in the box with every thing with it. Never seen one before and have a nephew with a hankering for one.

I did not know there was a .22 WMR version.

Accidentally found .22 WMR ammo at a Bass Pro a few weeks back, and bought it for my .22 Single Six, although I don't shoot it much. Finding .22 WMR is a challenge. I have friends with .22 WMR bolt actions, so there is no issue in getting stuck with extra.

I shoot CCI Mini Mag and Stingers in my 10/22 TD. Love the portability and ease of cleaning of the TD version.

now you just need a marlin model 60 to go with it!

Picked up 3 over the years.... one my first was a gift from my wife and 2 used...... all are Internationals/full stocks/mannlicher.......wish we could hunt with semi's in Pa.

All wear nice small 1-4 Leupolds 1-4x20 or 1-3x20 Weaver..... shotgun scopes.

I bought mine which is a stainless model at wally world two years ago for $167 and then I got carried away and now it looks like this. By the way the factory 25 round magazines work great and they are reasonably priced.
