Coffee

This has become my favorite when I'm in the mood for a dark roast bean coffee.

Otherwise, it's McCafe Breakfast Blend (light roast) that's private labeled by Keurig.

McCafe' Dark Roast here, drinking one right now!
Definitely some of the best coffee ever.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Black Rifle coffee, expensive, but some of the best in the world.
Somebody mentioned Star Bucks? I'd sooner drink toilet water myself.
Folgers really sucks too, but their Gourmet Blend is great and totally killer!

Since some of you mentioned chicory, it reminded me of how much I love that stuff.

Unfortunately for me coming by that stuff here in Colorado is near impossible. Apparently the people here in Colorado just don't appreciate the finer things in life.

Might have to get ahold of some people in know and have them send me some.

Did someone say "COFFEE"?

Go watch the morning news. This coffee will help alleviate the shock of everything that went on while you slept.
But what alleviates the shock of what you see on the morning news?

Black Coffee

I drank my first cup of coffee at age 21. I'd been employed for a year as an all night, short order cook, at a one man, Coffee/hamburger shop. In that time, I'd brewed thousands of gallons of coffee, as Our shop, specialized in sobering the drunks, on their way home from the local beer joints. My first trials of coffee, were defiled with cream & sugar, which I didn't like. When I mistakenly tried coffee black, and undefiled, I became an enthusiastic user.

Roasting you own

I don't remember if I replied to this thread, but just in case.

I've been roasting my own coffee now for about 15 years and I can tell you there is nothing you can buy that would compare except possibly going to a local roaster to purchase fresh roasted.

The cost is a bit lower (not too much) to get the green beans except you have a choice of so many varieties that you'll never get bored with the same cup.

Other advantages are no acidic stomach, no bitterness, no over caffeine unless you want to. It's easy to get started and inexpensive to get started, although now I do use a HotTop roaster which makes it even easier.

Someone sending me Black Rifle is what started this thread.

I am branching out.

PS: mom sometimes puts a scoop of Ovaltine in her coffee.

though not a Mennonite, I grew up in Mennonite country, I can recall back in the 1950s,it was looked on as a sin to drink coffee, something a Christian didnt do.For the record, I did not subscribe to that belief

lol, I missed that part, haha.
I went on a search after I had the Black Rifle for something as close as possible, nothing nails it, but some notable finds were; Pete's Dark Roast, McCafe' Dark Roast believe it or not is great, and some others, but Pete's came the ~closest to the taste of the roast. imo.

I make a pot of decaf every morning for my wife as she has acid reflux.
I can't stand it so I go to a local breakfast restaurant every morning and have 2 cups of there black fresh ground coffee .
I also go to socialize with several people I see daily.

Try making "Cowboy Coffee", by boiling the grounds, it cooks off the acids and other stuff that triggers that reaction, and still leaves the full flavor behind.

I tried it, and it was the smoothest, most "civilized" cup of coffee I ever had.

How to Make Cowboy Coffee - YouTube

I have consumed coffee since I joined the US Navy,, in 1970,,

I have had every possible combination of coffee prep imaginable,,
BUT,, until you try the "Cowboy Coffee" like it is made in the video,,
you can not imagine the beverage ,, it is that different.

I too have had acid reflux and other types of indigestion from coffee,,
BUT,, NEVER anything negative from the Cowboy Coffee.

One further thing I learned from some YouTube Video,,
(I am not positive how, but, it works,,)
the addition of a pinch of salt will remove any remaining coffee bitter taste.

I never liked decaf, but, I always wanted to have coffee in the evening,, but, I always passed because of the coffee keeping me awake.

Well,, try decaf coffee made the "Cowboy Coffee" method.
WOW,, tremendous flavor,, and no (or minimal) caffeine that keeps you awake!!.

The unique thing is, the type of grounds does not seem to have a major impact,, I have tried a half dozen brands so far, I like them all.
Also, fine versus coarse grind can create a need for a different amount of time of the boiling.

The one negative is that none of the videos I have seen give EXACT quantities of ingredients.

My EXACT instructions are
3 level tablespoons of Lavazza Classico coffee grounds added to 22 ounces of boiling water.
Boil for 4 minutes.
Remove from the heat, then add two ounces of cold water.
Let it set at least 30 seconds.
Add a pinch of salt to the empty cup.
Pour the Cowboy Coffee into a 20 ounce cup,,
Throw away the remaining coffee,, it has the grounds in it.

Do not be surprised if you actually like the coffee with no sugar, or cream,, it is that different.
Try making it, if you want to be amazed!!

One other note: Coffee prepared this way is SUPER HOT,,

I have found that placing a soup spoon into the coffee for at least 30 seconds will cool the coffee to a reasonable temperature,,
If I am in a big rush,, I will put TWO spoons in the coffee to cool it even faster.

As to temperature. I like coffee HOT. I need to sip it so I don't burn my tongue. By the time I get half way through the cup it has cooled too much so I do a quick zap in the microwave.

Color is important too:

Coffee makes My heart skip a couple of beats. Weirdest feeling ever. Like My chest hiccups. I drink plain jane Lipton black tea. Different type of caffeine. I would love to drink coffee and You Guys make Me jealous.

i like the way my wife mixed her blend of Cameron's Highlander Grog and whatever store blend we have. Of course, Highlander Grog is good by itself but we cut the mix as to cut the cost a little.

I grew up on Red Rose and mom and I both will sneak and have a cuppa (milk and sugar) on occasion but we have been assimilated. We are coffee drinkers.

It would appear that Bob is no longer my uncle.

A few years ago I got tired of what I was using.

Went searching, somewhat by accident I picked up Seattle's Best, Post Alley #5. I drink a lot of it. My tastes are simple Hot And Black.

At the time I was searching I talked to a local roaster. He suggested in addition to the coffee you need a good brewer.

The suggestion was Bunn. It is important the water is the correct brew temp. Most automatics don't deliver the water hot enough. Bunn maintains a reservoir at 200 Deg. When you add cold water it displaces the hot water and brews a pot in a minute or so.
