Component price gouging!

I'm like walnutred, I'm good for a while. Got in last year before the rush and haven't regretted it once.

Indeed. I started stocking up last summer, with my last large purchase of ammo in November and propellant in January.

I think what Shuz is trying to say is that the fear is generated by the anti-gun stance of the present administration. Something we all can agree on.

What kicks me in the rump is that in order to get elected, they had to get votes from folks that are Pro-Second Amendment.

They are usually the same folks that are whining about prices now and were - and still are - ready to sell out the "black rifle"/semi-auto/handgun owners now in the pathetic belief their own "deer rifles"/shotguns/"sporting arms" are magically protected.

They are usually the same folks

I would like to add that I don't think anyone in this thread fits this description.

If you do, set me straight! (Of course, you will end up on my ignore list in the future!

HazMat fee is 22.50 now. I remember a shortage of components last Jan/Feb caused by people loading up to beat price increases which caused a big shortage in Sportsmans and other retail shops. Used Black rifles sat on the dealers racks unbought at $700 and $800, now sell like hot cakes for 1000+. Panic buying causes the same effect if it is gasoline, rifles or components. I see out of stock listings on grafs and Midway gradually going away as they are able to re-stock from suppliers. I'll buy what I have to and reload with what I have until supply exceeds demand and prices come down. Even though I know some component prices are not going to come down for quite a while.

Skip, it's not always just the vendor. he may be selling at the best price he can. Given the extreme scarcity of small rifle primers $30 is not outrageous. 50 or more is gouging pure and simple. People resent being gouged and may buy now but later they will avoid that vendor and he will go out of business. Seen that one before

I had some people look in disgust at the price on some 7.62x39mm ammo that I had on my table. The truth is that my supplier jumped the price by $140 a case in the last month. That makes for a big jump in price to the consumer.

Please do not assume that the vendor is a crook when prices jump. Speaking for myself I sell at the best price I can. Sometimes I get sticker shock too when I buy. Mostly I am just appalled by the great void in stock at all of the distributors.

Jes, I know you. If this was the case with this guy it would have been a different matter. The attitude is what appalled me the most to be quite honest.

I'm talking Wolf here too, not Federal Match, not CCI BR, not......Wolf, for crying out loud!

Not price break for quantity, and an attitude. Does the vendor get an attitude from the distributor too? Comes with the product?

This guy was a jerk the last time I was there. The same time I met you. He was the one between you and the guy selling the Federal primers for $23/1000. (At the time that was a good price, about $2-$3 less than EVERYBODY.) The guy selling for cheap was selling his old stock. The guy with the Wolf for $30 Friday yelled at the $23 Federal guy that day asking what he thought he was doing selling them so cheap. I don't think he got the attitude from the distributor, buddy. He had it a long time before Friday!

Those kinds of folks need to be avoided.

I don't know you or anyone else on this forum personally. However, the fact that they are ON this forum suggests they do not suffer from Fudd myopia.

the fact that they are ON this forum

Well, one would think but that isn't always true.

You weren't around for the "Brentfoto" incident. He got offended because someone had a "Fred Thompson for Pres:" banner in their signature! He was as left as left could be politically and didn't last long around here. It was sad in a way, the guy really liked guns. Kind of a walking oxymoron, heavy on the moron!

I went into Wal-mart, passed by the sporting goods and went directly to the toy section.

I purchased all the roll caps they had in stock.

I now have the biggest hoard of them that there is!

Funny, but that reminds me of when I was a kid, and I needed some .22 for a homemade cannon, I could not buy them because I was too young so I improvised. I got a hold of some spent .22 cases, stuffed them with a few pieces of the paper roll caps, then added a BB and crimped the open end of the case with a homemade die I created from a block of steel. It took a few hits but I did manage to get them to go off and fired a BB out the cannon.

With the prices of primers and reloading components I may need to resort to that again. "Now where did I put that homemade die?"

We'll discuss it sometime off line.

We needn't. That matter is over for me. No use to beat a dead horse. A pastor of mine once said: "If you find yourself beating a dead horse, by all means, dismount."

Sliding my right foot out of the stirrup, moving it up and back towards the rump, and gently over.....................................

I've been looking for primers for several weeks and haven't been able to find any "IN STOCK" other than a few shotshell primers at any of the Distributors that I have been using.

Are you planning on going to the Indianapolis 1500 anytime soon?

Might be there sometime - it's my home state after all.

I'll drop you an email if I do, though. I was sort of concerned for my little brother, who lives in Indy, but since he STILL hasn't managed to get over to the 1500 to shake Jessie's hand, it's probably not an issue.

I'd forgotten that Erich actually finished high school? Along with a few others, from the sound of things!

I'm just thrilled that they let me back for the reunion. I remember the mob with torches and pitchforks running behind me when I left for college . . .
