Dark Times Ahead

Meh...ate one years ago. From what I remember, I liked it. Have not been to a Mickey D's for many years-just not in my meal plans. Would not make a special trip to eat a McRib just like I would not make a special trip to get a Big Mac (Which BTW used to be my go to gut buster along with a large fry and a Diet Coke :D). What keeps me from McDonalds and the rest of the fast food joints is the C-A-L-O-R-I-E-S McRib and large fry is 1018 calories
(Don't care about the sodium or fat content). Same as a Big Mac and large fry. I'd rather go home (I have the luxury of being able to go home for lunch if I want to) have a couple pieces of KETO whole wheat bread and a nice slice of pastrami with a squirt of yellow mustard for a quick lunch. If noting is going on at the office-I might try to squeeze in a little nap before heading back.

I count the frequency I go to fast food joints (Mikey D's, etc.) in years, not days or weeks. The thought of eating something called a "McRib" does not budge the needle on my Food-O-Meter.

SC has some EXCELLENT barbecue, and I am a connoisseur {big, fancy word for an overeater in a good barbecue joint}. :D
Actually, most southern states have some EXCELLENT barbecue joints. In my experience, they all have some lousy ones also. ;)

Every barbecue joint is different. No two have ever been exactly alike, and I've eaten in hundreds. The stew or the sauce or the meat will vary. The condition of the building will not determine the quality of the food. A nice, new building can have awful food, and a bona fide dump can have deee-licious food.

The McRib? I ate one so many years ago I can't remember. I shall not eat another.

Several years ago there was a show on PBS about BBQ joints. They traveled across the country sampling the wares as various local establishments and interviewing customers. Many of the comments were that you didn't judge a BBQ stand by its looks, but by the the customers cars parked in the lot. A place that had a mix of beat up old pick ups and high end cars was a sure bet for good eats. I've found that to be true.

Years ago now we were Back Home In Indiana.
Actually my Wife was back home.
One of her Cousins was also back home.
She worked at the McD R&D Development Dept up in Chicago. And she alerted us to stand by for a major new food item!
She was excited! And later - Bam! It arrived!
It turned out to be their Pizza.
Another one that didn't work out!
Don't recall that 'Beefsteak.'
But not all their new releases are available everywhere.
And when they aren't well accepted, they are available nowhere!

I haven't eaten at McDonald's since before I retired. I was at work one night and I got a craving for an Egg McMuffin with sausage whatever they call that. So on the way home I stopped at McDonald's by my house and I bought two.

I went home, I ate the one I put the other in the refrigerator and about an hour later I was sitting on the couch watching something on TV and the first one came up. I mean it was barely digested even. I cleaned up I got the other Egg McMuffin out of the refrigerator and threw it in the trash.

Haven't been to McDonald's since

I'll eat a McRib but McDonalds doesn't know the first thing about a vanilla or any other kind of shake. Shakes are made and mixed not ground out of some kind of machine. My wife swears their ice cream is mostly made out of chemicals...she can't eat ice cream...but no problem with a Mickey D Ice cream cone...BTW Banquet sells a type of microwave meat tray that looks like and tastes like the McRibs meat. Make yer own...Just thought of the name...Called Backyard Barbeque

The best way to characterize it would be to call it "ice milk". It comes in liquid form and the machine that dispenses it quik freezes it as it comes out. Just like soft serve ice cream.

I love those Banquet TV dinners. In fact had one just this week and have another in the freezer. Not only the meat, but it has corn and mashed potatoes as well. I think I pay about 3 bucks for one.

Part of my misspent youth in the early '80s was working the closing shift at the local McDs. I cooked plenty of McRibs. I saw them in the raw then watched them float in a pan of barbecue sauce on a warmer for hours on end. I have never eaten one nor will I.

The S.C mustard based BBQ that we found best was owned by a Gentleman that had billboards of him in a white suit like Col.Saunders wore. " Maurice's" IIRC. Believe he passed and the restaurants are owned by who knows and have not found a good one.
After years of traveling for work around the mid West I appreciate just about any style of food as " its local".

Never had a McRib, but I did try a McGriddle once. It was at 3:00am after a night of drinking at a motorcycle rally, to have something in my stomach before going out on the big lake. Michigan was pretty choppy, and we were not catching any fish, until I looked down into the bottom of the boat to bait a hook.that was not a good idea, but after I chummed the water with my McGriddle, we quickly caught three pretty big ones. After that, I lobbied to get off the lake, and met no opposition.

I have a Mc D's, Wendy's, KFC, Checkers, and Taco Bell within 5 miles. I never go to Mc D's. Never had a McRib. I do go to Wendy's a lot during the summer for a bacon cheeseburger, and a baked potato.

There's an Arby's close to my moms place in Ormond Beach, and they start having their fish sandwich in December. Don't eat there often, but they do have the best fast food fish sandwich around.

..in Memphis there's usually a killer BBQ joint within 250 yards of any McDonald's.
.

Envious sigh, here. We are now the 5th largest city, and still have probably less then 10 'good' BBQ spots here.

Part of my misspent youth in the early '80s was working ...at the local McDs. .

Ditto, my first job.

Does any one else remember back when McDonald's had good French fries?

However there is a new push to stop using seed oils and return to Lard, which if McDonalds decides to follow will return the best tasting fast food fries in America! Just like everything else we were told was "healthy" was discovered not to be.

Yessir! Huge blocks of solid lard. Unwrapped, and dumped into the fry vats.
One for fries, one for fish, and one for pies. THAT's why the stuff tasted better back-in-the-day!

Two years ago I got a McDs cheese burger. After a year the "cheese" turned to a gross brown color. Real food does not do this.

If you're ever able to find a DVD copy of '30 Days', that is featured in one of the 'special features' outtakes after the movie. Just the general lack of decay in appearance of several items.

McRib and Shamrock shake... fraudulent items both.
If it's green

it aint a shake. I know I've had the parts 'r parts sandwich but I really can't recall so I'm guessing meh.
Reminds me of the Sam Adams seasonal blend beers, if one can't get it right the first time whatever follows won't be any better.
