Do I need it?

You need to get one -- it's a smooth, accurate shooter. The trigger is good enough that you can even go Apexless if you wish. My only caution: Ask the seller to show you the recoil spring assembly prior to purchase. You don't want one that looks like the one in the attached photo. Mine came out of the box that way. There's no need for you to expect less than perfection from S&W when you open up your new Shield. That said, even with the no-extra-charge Factory-Crumpled RSA Option, my Shield 9 runs well enough to satisfy my range junkie cravings. I've had mine for six weeks and have already put 750 rounds through it.

BTW, S&W is standing behind their product and has promised to send me a new RSA, but they're currently out of stock.

Do the math. What is the correct number of guns? N + 1 = :)

N is the amount you have now; guess what the one represents? Now. Buy. Load. Shoot. Repeat. Ah. Life is good.

Well, of course a 9mm Shield would be a nice thing to have. On the other hand, you've got a couple of other nice 9's. Maybe what you really need is a full size 40 to go with the Shield you've got. You know, make more efficient use of your ammunition supply.

Thanks, PirateJim,

Great idea and I actually took care of that vacancy this week...I purchased a police trade in Glock 22, Gen 2 in 40! (I'm in MA, so we can only purchase pre-ban Glocks). $379, 1 mag with box of ammo.

How'd I do?
Thanks again!

Budsgunshop.com has a bunch of M&P40 used police trade in's complete with 3 mags for around $350 bux

Don't rush out to do a trigger job on your shield, just shoot it for awhile and you will be surprised how smooth it gets.

I agree completely. Mine is very smooth after 6000 rounds. Of course it smoothed out long ago.
