Man, love this board and love the passion, but I'm not sure this thread can end up in anything less than the two answers of "I agree with the majority, so I love the 2ndA" or "You disagree, your a rotten Quisling who hates the 2ndA", neither result is productive or worth pursing. ...
Good arguments can be made on both sides, but just as every law is a process of consideration and opinion, so is this topic. Fact is, anyone can say "The right to keep and bear arms means _____". The allowance of differing opinions is what this nation is about. There's a hell of a lot of white crosses planted on foreign shores by brave men trying to guarantee that truth never dies.
OC supporters can claim that "The right to keep and bear arms" broadly means carrying any gun in any way with no regulation at all, period. OK, that point has been pounded in like a railroad spike. I get it. You believe there should be no restrictions or limits of any kind, of any weapon, of any carry, anywhere at any time and if that right isn't granted, your believe you're rights are being stomped on by a tyrannical govt. Got it. Point's clear.
Others disagree. US Constitional history and law clearly shows that there are limits to every right, that if every right was treated as "whatever you want, when you want, how you want, forever and no consquences" then we'd have open civil war and anarchy, because competeting interests interpreting rights differently would ultimately end up in mass conflict or even open combat.
At a minimum, I would hope we could at least mutually recognize that others can disagree with certain points of firearms carry without resorting to calling people traitor, liberal, commie, Democrat plant, backstabber, 2nd Amendment betrayer or whatever else. People can actually love God, America, freedom, liberty, the Constitiution, the 2nd Amendment, Reagan, be a raging firearms enthusiast and yet *still* conclude that carrying openly is unwise and unnecessary.
I will again apologize for characterizing OC carriers with insulting terms, I also fell into that hole of rock throwing, fair enough to say I was wrong. But behavior and philosphy are two differents things, how I said what I said may have been regretfully on the near side to rude, but the context of what I said is not invalid.
I accept others disagree and believe in OC. I hope you can accept that other folks, upon being asked "Do you REALLY believe in the 2nd Amendment? can truthfully say 'yes', know what they're talking about and be very informed regarding issues of personal freedom, rights and liberty and STILL believe OC is a poor concept.
God bless ya' all, hope you have a great Saturday.
Ciao.
