I'll leave this thread because I realize the story is on everyone's mind and all over the media.

However,
Stick to the topic, or it goes away.

The Rules have not changed.
We won't be going into racial issues, discussing black panthers, retrying OJ, or trying to figure out if Fuhrman was a racist.

Read The Rules.

Actually I can't tell you how many times I have looked at two asian women under 5 foot tall and said to myself ..look a black man over 6 foot tall.
If you had no reasonable fear of lasting negative consequences from making such a "mistake", you might not consider it all that big of a deal.

Truth be told, I doubt there will be any lasting negative consequences.

That means it will probably happen again... and probably soon.

The odds are one set of crimes will be punished and the others not.

We get it. You're full of righteous indignation. But there IS a thing included in the elements of many crimes called: "Intent". Are you really trying to compare the specific intent that this killer used with the negligence that the cops who shot up the truck may have been responsible for?

Let's hope D Platoon finds him very soon

seeing as we havnt heard of a shoot out or additional hits .... Im thinking there's a strong possibility that he ate his gun.
of course this would mean they'd have to find the body to close this ugly chapter .... That may take a while given the snow storms at the start of the manhunt.

I'm beginning to think divine intervention may have occurred. They now confirm that the axle on his truck was broke and his truck did contain firearms. If he truck broke down for whatever reason, his whole plan goes down the drain.

He may have been stopped by bad luck or God or both. It's damn cold up there...if he's alive he's miserable and yes...may have ended it.

Hopefully he did and we will never have to hear from him again. They may not find him until the spring thaw. But of course....I could be all wrong too.

I wouldn't bet on the suicide without a confrontation or publicity for this guy. I'd bet more on being holed-up in a vacation house or being harbored by someone. We'll see him again......

As northdallas7 said there is a report that the burned out truck had firearms in it. Here is the article.
Christopher Jordan Dorner manhunt continues: Police search snowy California mountains
Now if that report is true, it shoots down the theory that he drove his truck up there and set it on fire to draw some diversion. With that theory they have a car planted for him to get away. Shoots that down! Why would he purposely set the truck on fire when it was disabled? It wasnt a horse!
I also see chief beck is haveing a review of his hearings when he got fired. That must be a appeasement try to have him back off. I doubt they are going to give him his job back with lost pay after murdering three people and shooting at a few more!
He well could be holed up in big bear if that report is true.

Does Vegas have a line on him yet? Because right now....I'm thinking 80/20 he's a goner. He ran into some bad luck with his truck and without transportation and his firearms....he's eaten whatever gun he chose to eat. Good riddance.

I've been following the developments of this story and have two thoughts:
  1. He's not out to simply build a body count. By hitting a relative of one of his designated LAPD targets, wounding an LAPD officer guarding another designated LAPD target, and hitting a non-LAPD LEO, he has accomplished exactly what he intended, i.e., create fear and chaos throughout the area as well as focus attention on his "disciplinary case." He probably feels he doesn't need to hit anyone else as long as the fear and media coverage continues. When it begins to wane, then look out.
  2. He is a well trained, motivated terrorist. He is not some nut-case looking to commit suicide-by-cop or to go out in blaze of glory. He's in it for long haul. If they underestimate him, this will go on for a long, long time. Committed terrorists are difficult to find and stop, especially ones with good training.
At least those with a blue or gray pick up truck can drive by LAPD officers now without getting shot up . . . well, maybe.

This could well end up like humphry bogart in the movie "High sierra", except he doesnt have ida lupino or the dog.

Even though I Personally believe there is a greater chance he is dead than alive, still, I have to think that one of the scariest places to live right now is a cabin in the forest of Big Bear.

Ive been to Big Bear several times. Cabins, remote cabins, where people live and work. And it's pitch black up there at night.

Imagine, taking out the trash tonite up there? No, honey, it's YOUR turn to take out the trash tonite. But if it makes you feel better, I'll be watching from the kitchen window.

I'm hoping it's as been discussed, and he's no longer with us. But my mind keeps flashing back to how long he has had to prepare this.

To all of our LEOs out there, stay vigilant.

If the truck rightously broke a axle he didnt plan for that. That would have shot his preplans all to heck.
1. He holed up in a cabin and well might have took a hostage, may already have had him or her drive him down to LA or had them answer the door and assure a deputy everything was okay.
2. Might try have tried to walk down to a lower elevation and froze to death or outside chance have made it.
3. Could have shot himself.
4. I would be surprised if a TR-2 (U-2) hasnt been flying over with a infra red camera, but it has been snowing but I think it can take pictures through it.
Either he is dead from exposuer or suicide and if not, some people are going to be in big trouble.

Yeah. Just read that they are trying to determine if his axle was broken before the truck was set on fire or if the towers broke the axle. If the towers broke that axle......we could be back to square 1. And yeah...if he's not dead.....they got problems there in So. Cal.

Wow! Your right. I never could figure the purpose of burning the truck if it was a rightious break down. Always a new kinck, isnt there? Not only that, it would be insane to burn the truck if it was a real breakdown as it would attract fast attention if he was on foot. I have to belive the tow truck broke the axle and that he did have a vehicle spotted to drive off in. Unless this happened quite aways from help and he burned the vehicle to summon help and then carjack the driver and vehicle and no one missed the good samaritan yet?

Some things we know

All that we know for sure is that he burned his truck. We assume the broken axel was a surprise.

The fact that he burned some guns and ammunition in the truck might indicate he was going to walk some distance, and they were now a burden.

Normally an angry paranoid (unwarranted suspicion) does not generally get less paranoid when under stress. Therefore does not usually think and plan easier.

Reports are that he spend "summers" in the Big Bear area at one time.

Maybe he has winter clothing on, maybe not. Maybe someone has driven down that road and stopped to help, maybe not.

I would assume he is losing weight and growing facial hair, so his appearance is changing.

I sent an email to relatives in Big Bear not to open the door for anyone with a chin like Jay Leno.

Hopefully most people in that area own some kind of gun.

He might have burned it to destroy evidence of someone riding with him.
Or he might have burned it so no hounds could be put inside to get his scent.
Or, as you said, he might have had trouble getting someone to stop and that worked.

Wowzers, alot of armchair detective work going on here! Anyone that thinks this guy off'd himself has played right into the hand he's holding! He may be nuts but he's surely not stupid and we haven't seen the last of him. His type of cunning is the most dangerous and he knows exactly what his next move will be.
